New Marvel Console Game

As much of a Marvel geek that I am excited to hear that they'll be making a console/PC game in 2017. Marvel is teaming up with Telltale Games. I'm hoping this will have a multiplayer feature. :D Sorry if this is old news, just found it.

Hmm.. Nah.. is that the right question?

Maybe we should be asking Which Marvel Characters would lend themselves to this medium since it's story driven?

So, Marvel Characters that have dealings with a number of other characters, ranging from semi boyscouts to outright malevolent.

So, main protagonist wont revolve around any Marvel Character that are mostly Action oriented... must have problems, issues.. moral quandaries, or other. Any one of them that lends themselves to more interesting stories, choices they make and how/if they affect others in good/bad ways, etc...

So.. Punisher, Daredevil, A few of the X-Men, etc...

You might be thinking that Punisher is Not a good choice, but if the people at Marvel were Smart, like i think they are, they might try to get writers that can make you start to sympathise with some of their more/well know, but not very adored characters, that might get you to siding with Frank Castle. This will make it easier for fanboys to start debates and each time one of them references the Interactive Comic, others that aren't yet familiar with that medium, will learn of it and purchase if too.

Then they can add other Marvel characters as they go on.

Of course, they might turn to older Graphic Novels if they hit a bump down the line. ;)

The very existence of the taunting tank irritates, for it requires idiotic AI that obeys the taunt.

Googled:
" In modern usage, it therefore has been used as a metaphor for wasting time debating topics of no practical value, or questions whose answers hold no intellectual consequence, while more urgent concerns pile up."

True, True. ;)

Instead, we should be thinking up ways to make CoT the De Facto Medium for user created Story Driven interactive comics as well, with or without live action thrown in.

PS:
i doubt Truv. is part of any Marvel Media Campaign to promote their game.
So its not like s/he's trying to sway any player away from here. :)

If it has Telltale attached

If it has Telltale attached to it then it might have a heavy story element to it with a lot of moral quandaries and illusions of choice and the what not. Telltale has made the highly successful point and click story games of The Walking Dead (first season) and The Wolf Among Us to back that assumption up (I also heard that they did a Jurassic Park game in the same genre or manner that is overshadowed a lot by the two games I just mentioned). I'd keep an eye on it but I don't entirely like Telltale that much anymore or at the very least I don't like the dev team that specifically managed to horrible mishandle The Walking Dead's second season.

Just something to consider if your interested in this game.

I really do not see how they'll be able to pull this game off. Marvel has action in it.. It's not just all story driven.

I would look at Telltale's game line-up. I only mentioned the story games that they have because they made them pretty well and the games are hugely successful now due to that.

Marvel has some interesting characters that they could mess with. We'll see I guess

Well, what went before and

Well, what went before and didn't work?

DC Universe Online, an "action" MMO

Marvel Heroes online, where you play Marvel characters in a Diablo-like world

There's always a MOBA retread to fail at.

Marvel Heroes is doing well

Marvel Heroes is doing well from what I last heard. It might not be in a genre/style that you would enjoy, but that doesn't mean that it didn't work.

At least they managed to reverse course from when it originally released, which admittedly was NOT well, to something that is far more polished and smooth going. It quite possibly is also bringing in more money than CoX ever was...

And the DCUO is apparently far more popular on the PS3 than it is on PC... but that again doesn't make it a "failure". And SOE, the kings of killing MMO titles when they are NOT doing well (or keeping them running on life support forgotten with no updates/work being done on them, leading players to leave) are still developing content for it.

I would be more worried about DCUO not getting content before Marvel Heroes and shutting down.

In terms of how popular they are? Well unlike NCsoft, it is hard to get figures on how much that they have actually made, but if we are going by what CoX made and using that as a benchmark of "working", then I would say that those 2 are the more successful ones compared to Champions Online.

Oh, and not everything that Marvel touches turns out good.... there have been MORE than enough crap games based on marvel products out there... X-Men Destiny springs to mind here

All I remember from playing

All I remember from playing that Marvel Diablo clone was all these Things running around the mission hub and thinking, "It ain't me, babe. No, no, no, it ain't me, babe. It ain't me you're looking for..."

It appears while at SDCC that someone asked about future Marvel console games and this is what they answered with.

"We are very much taking a controlled, less-is-more, quality-focused, developer-focused strategy," he said, "but it is very top of mind, and we'll have a lot more announcements probably next year." Woot :) I just hope no more Lego Marvel games.

They only have 2 as it is... is that one too many?

Warner Brothers have a LOT more though (Lego Batman is 3 titles, Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter etc).

The thing is though, the Lego series of adaptations especially on known IP's has been pretty damn successful.

There was also the Lego Movie, which if the Lego Star Wars/Batman/Harry Potter series (and others of the same style) hadn't taken off... well lets say that it would have been VERY unlikely to be made.
