The most asked question of all time

Sorry in advance for asking this, but:

What is the timeline for release? When will alpha be available, and to whom? After alpha, how soon do you think beta will be released, and then the full version? Is this all laid out yet?

And another question is: What is the structure of payment? Is it going to be subscription, or in game store, or what?

Thanks in advance.

Never apologize for asking.

Never apologize for asking.

Our target date is for late next year. Various testing stages will be open as development dictates, but not before we are at a sufficiently polished state for more public scrutiny.

As for the payment structure,

As for the payment structure, the last we heard was that CoT would be Buy to Play, meaning one has to buy the game initially but then it will be free to continue playing, with an option to subscribe. We don't have details yet on what a sub will provide, other than probably a stipend of some kind of 'currency.' There will also be an in-game store, though MWM has repeatedly stated that things one can buy in the store can also be earned through play. Not sure if this means absolutely everything.

All this with the usual caveat that any of this can change, though subscription months were included in the Kickstarter rewards, so I'd think that some form of sub will exist.

Spurn all ye kindle.

Because of the promises made for the KS rewards, we're heavily incentivized not to change from that.

Also, we're looking forward to gold farmers effectively forfeiting the purchase price to us every time we ban one. It won't stop them, of course, but at least they'll be partly funding our efforts to shut them down.

Here's a good comment/question for the community:

I just read an article over at Massively Overpowered about the 13th annual celebration of CoH on Paragon Chat. The very first responder to that article said the following:

Quote:

I’m surprised that this game doesn’t have a team of former players reverse engineering it considering how dedicated to the game some of these players seem to be.

Not really sure if this was from a troll or a very naive person but either way it made me laugh. ;)

Technically Atlas Park

Technically Atlas Park Revival as well - though I haven't seen or heard anything from them for almost a year. Then again it's probably in their best interest to keep their heads down considering what they hope to do (if they haven't stopped their work that is).

I guess your point is that some Devs are less vague about things than others. I suppose that's true when considered as a collective group.

Lin Chiao Feng wrote:

Regardless the standard Devspeak definition of Soon™ is "any time between next Thursday and the Heat Death of the Universe" so I'd say Fall 2018 is Soon™ in this context. It's certainly Sooner™ to now than it was back in 2013...

Yes. It's in a fixed point in time that is so critical that it cannot be tampered with by the nefarious forces of the universe or the people with two good shoes.

Well, no.

Just thought I'd dredge up this post from last year to see if the answer is any more specific at this point in time. Do we have a tentative date yet? Or at least a tentative month? Any updates on this front at all?

It might help to at least scan through the latest posts first. They literally just dropped some pretty good info yesterday.

Fair enough... but it is the thread talking about the latest update so the latest news about -anything- is likely going to be in such a thread.
