I've seen a few mentions that the CoT team had to heavily modify the Unreal engine to support MMOs, but haven't found any details. Could someone point me to where those details might be found?

I don't think we've ever listed the exact details. We did little to change the core engine itself. What we have are multiple plugins, adding the needed capability, implementing everything from JSON support to database access. Our plugins directory currently holds 31 different entries to add all of the needed capability. When we began development, this expanded capability simply did not exist. Some of these we built, others are licensed.
