"Telly, they've had ample time. turn the jamming signal back on. I don't want anybody else tracking the base location."

"Yes Ma'am."

-----------------------------------------------

Tinker Belle may suddenly find the outgoing telemetry from "Somewhere in the bay" suddenly shuts off to prevent triangulation and tracking. She may have gotten close enough to detect a relative location, but it's inaccurate and there's no way such a base would be obvious to casual search.

Chances are, however, that those who were actually on the receiving end of the pilot signals know exactly where the base they were being transmitted from is.

----------------------------------------------

As Prometheus searches, He'll find four individuals. The first is one Thomas Adams. He's an elderly man, however, well into his eighties, left paralyzed from the waist down by a shrapnel bomb made by a rogue gadgeteer. He's in a public hospital though, which counters what Tinker said. on top of that, all his children are in their fifties and have their own children and grandchildren. He doesn't quite fit well enough.

The second individual he finds is a comatose woman in her thirties named Delilah Smith. Too young to have a 20-something daughter, and she, once again, is in a public hospital, supported by her parents.

The third is a 43 year old man named Jonah Hill. was rendered paralytic with a degrading condition that killed him two months ago. While he has a daughter, Tinker wouldn't have any reason to worry if her father was already dead.

The fourth is Samuel Goodrich. He's barely a teenager, rendered quadrapalegic by debris that broke his spine. 13 years old. Has an older sister who works construction.

Prometheus, however, will find something distinctly interesting however - a fifth case that likely would have resulted in someone matching the criteria. A Jane Doe who vanished out of the back of an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Nobody knows who she was, her name, her birth records, anything. She was a mystery, and would have been a charity case going into the hospital. Nobody could even see any wounds on her, but she was limp and unresponsive, like a corpse that was still breathing.

An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".

"From here to there? About ten minutes without my flight pack." AIko saw the packing being teleported onto the roof next to her. She opened it and put on the flight pack inside. "With it, about two. There's another spare in here, want to try it?"

When the signal she was following stopped, Tinker Belle sent to the team, "Looks like whoever took 'em has put 'em under a Faraday cage or some other shielding. Let's note the area just for future reference. Heading for the NERD attack site now, Monitor. ETA four point seven minutes."

In the bank, Henry Talliaferro (pronounced "Tolliver", as he had just told the teller after making his deposit) reeled under the influence of the strange substance Suddenly he felt so good. But something in his metabolism reacted differently than the others. The vapors in his vicinity began flowing into him, although not fast enough to help those around him. All his valuables? He'd just made his deposit, but there was something else he could give the nice man in the gas mask... He picked up his guitar from the floor by the guard who'd asked him to set it down when he'd come in, and began to play and sing. "I'd like to build the world a home..." As he played, he began to glow like the vapor, and even more good will washed over the people in the bank. But it was aimed at the nice man in the gas mask...

In addition to the first four

In addition to the first four records and the Jane Doe that disappeared, Prometheus was able to find thirty other cases of civilians that had been severely injured in super-battles and had been left disabled, comatose, or on life support with little chance of their bills being paid promptly or at all. As Danielle had pointed out, getting their actual medical records was a bit more difficult, but not impossible for the A.I. Prometheus assembled all over the information into a concise report and forwarded it to Danielle's encrypted tablet.

Danielle was in a stockholders meeting, once again refusing to sell off any more of her personal stock. She was aware that she wasn't the most popular person with several of Promethean Dynamics more powerful stockholders. It was mostly because of her philanthropic ways and her insistence on keeping the Torchbearer OS, amongst other products, affordable. She also knew that releasing her majority would eventually lead to her losing control of the company, which was something she would not allow ever.

Danielle wanted nothing more than to draw the meeting to a close so she could slip into her Flashpoint costume and take a few laps around the city. However, she'd already scored a small victory by forcing her stockholders to have this meeting on a Saturday morning, thereby insuring that a number of them would not want to be at it any more than she did. Pushing things any further by canceling the meeting would draw curiosity, so she restrained herself.

Her tablet was perched on her crossed thighs and it vibrated as it received a file. Her attention left the newest attempt to convince her to sell and settled on the tablet as she flipped it over and started taking a look at the information compiled by Prometheus. It appeared that Sam's idea might just have merit. She sent a message to Prometheus to begin drawing up a proposal for a disabled civilian care facility.

The robots continued their work, decrypting information and downloading it from the servers, as well as collecting prototypes that were in various stages of completion. As the heroes drew closer, Leader kept an eye on the time and checked in with the heavy robots to make sure the contingency was in place. It had been difficult to put things in place because it was a weekend day and still fairly early, but Leader was confident its plan would be adequate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shifter marked the area for later examination, then turned and sprinted off towards the N.E.R.D. Leaping from rooftop to rooftop, it followed AIko's exhaust towards the research park and the break in-site.

The music.. something about the music... Sandman stood there smiling listing to the song when his watch started beeping. It was the warning that he was near the limit of the affects of the gas. Those with faster metabolisms would soon be fighting off the effects. The beeping snapped his mind back into gear "A super... great."

"Well Folks thanks for the fun. I must be going. You with the guitar keep playing for the nice people here." He then hurried out even ignoring the vender still holding a bundle of cash. Outside the bank were his crew who looked to be about ready to bust in "Boss we were getting worried. Thought something went wrong." "Something did, there was some minor super in there. Not very powerful but mezzed me for a few moments. Now get in the van we getting out of here before someone recovers enough to trigger an alarm."

Sandman may not have noticed

Sandman may not have noticed it as he left, but at one point in the song - what in the original, commercial version would have been the tag-line "It's the real thing!" - a wave of energy flowed out from Hank. First what was left in Hank, then all the rest of the synthetic Liquid Light in the area as the wave moved out to the walls of the bank, became in all ways indistinguishable from the sample obtained from EdenTech. By this point, not much was left, enough to heal minor injuries, make all the people in the bank feel somewhat invigorated... and able to recall exactly what had happened. The guard drew his weapon as he rushed out, but the van had already pulled away, and he had no way of knowing which, if any, of the vehicles he could see was the one the robber was in... Police were called, and statements were given...

Shifter arrived soon after

Shifter arrived soon after AIko did and stood atop the roof of the building she hovered next to. It studied the building and the surrounding grounds. "Monitor, you stated that this is your place of employment. Do you possess a layout of the buildings interior?"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since he was still near Phoenix Park in Alexandria, Whipcrack received a private message from HeroNet concerning the bank robbery in Old Bradford, the neighboring district. He took off in an instant, swinging from building to building. By sheer coincidence, the street he was following was the same one the van was traveling on. But he was more concerned with reaching the bank and went swinging right past the van. He touched down on the steps of the bank and was greeted by a guard rushing outside, smartphone in one hand and gun in the other.

Once he made sure no one needed emergency transport, Whipcrack stuck around to help control the situation and act as a comforting presence.

"Security system seems to be working, except that between the main assault and some opportunistic villains, the police are tied up. No sign of forced entry, they may have teleported in. We'll enter that room, with the double doors, looks like shipping and receiving. If they're after hardware that's ready to go, that's likely where they'll be. If not, I'll try to hack the security system to find them. If you see any of the types they used in Alexandria, take out their power supplies fast. If they're different models, take your best guess, and try to limit your collateral damage." After sending a copy of the blueprints with the double doors and the security office highlighted to the rest of the team, AIko swooped down to the doors, the spare jetpack following her still, and used her force field to pop the lock before opening the doors.

Even through her force field, the impact rocked AIko's head back. A normal human would've had a serious concussion, but all the gear in her skull was well cushioned. Fortunately, her brain wasn't kept in such an exposed position. It wouldn't have fit. ^_^

But even as the fist struck, AIko's hands were coming up to grab the arm it was presumably attached to, and her body was pivoting to throw the body the arm was attached to...

As AIko spun to throw the robot, it analyzed her attack and the composition of her body. Its determination was that she would be successful, so it disengaged the clamps attaching the arm to its torso. It then pointed its other arm, which was some sort of large-bore projectile weapon at Scattershot. With a whoomph, a 40mm gyro-rocket left the barrel. It's rocket ignited after a few feet and it flew straight at Scattershot's torso.

With a flicker of motion, the outstretched arm of Shifter interceded and caught the gyro-rocket. With only milliseconds to prevent damage to itself, Shifter used the gyro-rockets power to its advantage. The engine forced Shifter to spin on its vertical axis, which it did so. As it completed a 180 degree spin, Shifter let go of the gyro-rocket and the projectile flew back towards the robot. Just before it impacted, Shifter spread itself out into a protective layer and hardened its nanocells.

BOOM!

The robot had been blown to pieces, clearing the way for the heroes to enter the room, which was some kind of small loading area.

Shifter moved ahead slowly, bringing its left arm up and forming a large round shield out of nanocells. With a thunderous WHANG, the double doors at the other end of the room flew off their hinges and three more heavy assault bots charged through the resultant gap. Shifter reacted almost instantly, counter-charging the nearest bot. The shield melted back into its arm as Shifter leapt over the bot. Its hands shifted into hooks and caught the framework at the juncture of the bots neck, shoulders, and chest. Shifter's momentum yanked the bot backwards and off its feet as Shifter landed nimbly. It spun and rammed a blade directly into the bots chest. With a shower of sparks and spasming of limbs, the bot ceased to function. Seeing that Scattershot had been clipped by a flying door and could not get into position to handle her attacker, Shifter snatched a leg off the robot at its feet and tomahawked it at the charging construct.

The leg caught it full in the side and, while not enough of an impact to do more than superficial damage, it did stop the robots charge. This allowed Shifter to close with it and ram a spear of metal into its neck, pinning it to the wall. The robot sparked and shuddered, then shut down and went limp.

Shifter withdrew its spear, which melted back into a hand, then helped Scattershot to her feet. "Are you still combat-capable?"

Before Scattershot could reply, there was a THRUUMMM of energy and an energy field popped into place over the door the assault robots had just knocked down. Shifter went over to investigate. It held a hand within millimeters of the field and moved its arm back and forth. "It is a force field of considerable strength. The radar burst showed AIko the layout of the hallway, which was about 50 feet long. The door she stood at was in the dead center of one of its long sides. One end of the hallway terminated in a large vault-like door. The other end jogged around a corner. There were multiple doors along its length, but there were no other robots in the hallway or around the corner, However, there were four devices attached to the wall outside the room. As AIko counted down, Shifter

As AIko counted down, Shifter positioned itself by the lower right corner of the doorway. With an oily shimmer of metal, Shifter squatted and transformed its arm into something that looked like a cross between a heavy hydraulic punch and a cannon.

As AIko finished her countdown, Shifter shoved its arm forward, ramming the end into the wall. The incredibly sharp tip pierced a few inches into the concrete, irised open, and fired a dense spike of nanocells. The spike punched the rest of the way through and stabbed into the force field generator, ripping it off the wall.

The smashed device flew across the hallway and hit the far wall, the spike pinning it in place. Shifter looked over at AIko, a chagrined look on its face. "Oops."

She didn't nod she looked at

She didn't nod she looked at the two targets glad she wasn't limited like humans who could only target one spot at a time no matter what movies say. Then when Zero was said she let her blasters open hundreds of miniature forcefield balls slammed into the corners acting like a sand blaster. Soon chips the wall flew away exposing the generators then they shut down as the pelting continued denting the casing then ripping them open. Her blasters then shut down and she goes to one knee. "I think I over did it, give me a moment for my generator to recharge my cells."

Shifter nodded at Scattershot

Shifter nodded at Scattershot's request as it stood back up and its arm transformed back to normal. "I will scout ahead."

Shifter moved silently into the hallway and began checking the doors. Most of them were locked, with the exception of a bathroom and a janitor's closet. Shifter moved to the corner, then checked the next hallway by transforming the tip of its index finger into a visual sensor and sticking it around the corner. As Shifter did this, two columns of heavy assault bots exited a room thirty feet down the hallway and began marching away from Shifter.

Shifter moved quietly back to the previously shielded room and informed AIko and Scattershot what it had found.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was at about that time that Leader's countdown ran out and the first TCPD car came screaming around the corner, quickly followed by three more. They formed a cordon that blocked off both ends of the road in front of the lab. Of the eight officers, two of them stayed with the vehicles while the other six armed themselves with shotguns and assault rifles, then began moving towards the lab slowly.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the main lab, Leader watched both the officers and the heroes. "I believe it's time to show them that we wish to be left alone."

In response, two of the six remaining heavy assault bots stepped into a teleport cage along with their 'insurance' and disappeared in a scream of energy.

Outside, the bots reappeared. With them were six humans and a dog. Two were dressed for jogging. One of the joggers was holding onto the grips of a stroller with white-knuckled intensity. In the stroller was a two-year old that had obviously been crying. Another of the humans was a young male scientist who appeared to be comforting the other jogger. Lastly, there were two men in Ephesus jerseys and a German Shepherd. The dog still had a hold of its Frisbee.

All of the adult humans and the dog was wearing a collar with a lead attached to a cylindrical object in the center of the group. Another lead was attached to the child's waist.

The Leader's voice emanated from both of the assault bots. "If you wish for every single one of these humanoids, and this canine, to be disintegrated by a 3000 degree plasma burst, then please continue advancing. If not, return to your vehicles."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the room, a screen lit up. The screen showed a feed of what was outside and the heroes could hear what the assault bots were saying.

Tinker Belle landed at the

Tinker Belle landed at the door and established a relay for the team. She was about to brief the police officers when the hostages were teleported in. She drew and aimed her passive scanners at the collars, the leads, and the device in the middle.

Meanwhile, inside, AIko signaled the others to hold their position, hacked into the feed of the screen, and sent her own message back, she hoped to the leader of these criminals. "Your logic is faulty. This clue I give you: We do care about the humans, and even about the dog. You may have fifteen seconds to figure out where you are erring."

High above Monitor's drones

High above Monitor's drones flew marking any threats he detected and this information he sent to Tinker Belle. "I so hate it when they pull the hostage bit." He mumbled as he focused the drones scanners on the device. "Lets see if we can see inside that thing."
---------------------------------------

"I'm fully charged." She looks to Aiko and tried to send a small text transmission. "I might be able to generate enough force to push the hostages away from that bomb. They get hurt but they live. Not sure if I would thought. It isn't something I want to try but if we have no choice."

AIko took care to ensure that

AIko took care to ensure that none of the text conversation with her teammates spilled over into what she was telling the criminal leader. "Or between us we might be able to deflect the blast upward."

In the lab, Duchess finished programming her Plan A, teleporting the majority of the central device - the corners would be left behind - about five kilometers eastward at an elevation of forty-five degrees, within a few seconds. Without knowing more about it, that might not turn out to be a good idea. So she left it unactivated and started working on the much more complicated Plan B. It was also untested, they'd never used this system on sapients beings before. But it was based on observations of Uncle Val's teleports, so that wasn't what she was most worried about. It was those collars...

Tink's scans of the collars

Tink's scans of the collars and leads showed that they were composed of titanium mesh. The device was a different story entirely, however. Her scanner could not identify the composition of the bomb and Monitor's drones could not penetrate it.

AIko's message was received and, in response, a tiny drone floated into the room through the doorway. It came to a stop and an aperture glowed to life, generating a shadowy hologram.

The hologram looked at each one of the heroes before speaking. "Greetings. I am Leader Zero. My force is almost finished with our task and will be leaving soon. But I have scanned all three of you and I am quite intrigued by your compositions. My intention was to leave the hostages here with the plasma device active. But, if all three of you come with us peacefully, I will deactivate it before we depart. You have one minute to decide."

AIko sent a text almost

AIko sent a text almost immediately, to her team and to her parents, and if the drone had good enough comm gear it would likely be able to intercept it: Leader Zero has offered to deactivate the device before leaving if the three of us go with him. I am not sure of his intentions, but I am inclined to accept his offer. We can discuss the philosophy of Falkenberg. Aloud, she said, "I will accept, but I warn you that I will remain with you only as long as I wish."

Scattershot looked to Aiko

Scattershot looked to Aiko "Don't like the idea of going with these guys. But I can't think of any other way to help those hostages and I follow your lead." Texting to her [they would try to block out transmissions if we go with them. Would need to think of a way to make sure we are trackable.]

AIko smiled at Scattershot,

AIko smiled at Scattershot, and subtly altered her stance to brace against thrust. A brief burst of tachyons left her thruster pack, and she let the thrust rock her very slightly. In less time than it would have taken light to do so, the cloud passed through an airport at the edge of town. A detector array registered their passage, and the simple monitoring program forwarded the data back to the main lab. Duchess, having left off Plan B as unnecessary and dangerous, had her hand over a button ready to implement Plan A. She glanced at a display, noted where the track of those tachyons had come from, and smiled. That's my girl!

Shifter nodded. "If it will

Shifter nodded. "If it will save the lives of the hostages, we agree to depart with Leader Zero."

The shadowy image chuckled. "Excellent. And I would not force you to stay longer than you wish. But it is my hope that you will find our destination interesting enough that you will wish to stay. Please proceed around the corner and down the hallway to the main lab."

In the main lab, Leader Zero led his force in finishing what they had come to do, then in setting up beacons that would allow Su-C to initiate a retrieval teleport. He smirked as the drone's sensors picked up the text messages and the short tachyon burst. This AIko was very clever and he would have to be careful handling her. Once they reached their destination, text messages would be easily blocked, but he was unsure about tachyons.

AIko headed out down the hallway, her passive sensors wide open. This was mostly sound and the EM spectrum from the near ultraviolet down to very low frequency radio, and a limited ability to smell and taste, but it was what she had. And most people got along quite well with only a fraction of that...

Fear... yeah she was feeling

Fear... yeah she was feeling fear. This Leader Zero was bothering her more than she wanted to admit. She just had to trust the other two to know what they were doing, the lives of the hostages was more important then blasting away.

"My drones can't even penetrate what ever that bomb made out of." Monitor noted the tachyons as well. "I hate feeling useless." Mumbles as he sent the drones out farther he was thinking ahead. They might not have much time to find Aiko and the others once they were transported away. He just hoped that with the drones in different locations he would be able to triangulate the team's whereabouts.
