Limited time offer, while supplies last

What if there were some Task Forces or Trials that were only offered every so often, for a certain length of time, then they're not available until they come back again some long time later? I don't mean seasonal stuff, but like what if, when you log in, there's a message of the day telling you:

"The XXX Task Force is currently being offered by Mr. XXX in Zone XXX. This will be available for the next X days. The next Task Force offered will be the YYY Task Force, given by Mrs. YYY in Zone YYY from Start Date to End Date."

Assuming the "limited time offer" TFs that exist are being rotated through or something, you would have the incentive to do that XXX TF while it's still active then try to plan on dong the YYY TF during it's run. Then, way later the XXX TF get's offered gain, and again it's only active for like a few days or something.

This way, people who want to do that content will (hopefully) have a greater chance of getting a team together for it, based on the fact that everyone will be aware that it's not always available.

It's my new kick that giving people a "strike while the iron is hot" opportunity will lead to more people who want to team up to do cooperative content being able to team up to do that content together by virtue of the fact that it was scheduled for them to some extent. If you just make everything available all the time, it actually becomes harder to find a team for any one specific TF or Trial, by virtue of the fact that everyone had different plans, needs, etc, plus the "best option" tends to rule, once the min/maxers figure out which TF that is.

So to make this point a

So to make this point a little more concrete, imagine if the Lady Grey TF, the Statesman TF, the Tin Mage MkII TF, the Apex TF, and the Lord Recluse SF were all put on a rotation whereby only one of those TF were available at any given time (maybe have faction-exclusive ones like the States and Lord Recluse share a time slot so both faction have something to do, I don;t know), and the schedule was well established and easy to look up. Instead of having to twist people's arms to do the one thing and not the other, people would generally be like "well, it's the thing to do tonight, so I guess I'll do it."

I'm not saying everything should be like this, but things that require a large group might benefit from being "limited time only" in the sense that you wouldn't have to worry about one option detracting from the other since only one is available at a time.

The only problem I have with

The only problem I have with these sort of things is that unless you happen to be around and not on holiday or away for any other reason, you miss out on these 'uber special events'. As long as they ar not 'one off' events that will never happen again, I could live with them but personally, I think that anything like this should be there for anyone to play (obviously, seasonal stuff comes around every year - with variations).

I kind of see the opposite

I kind of see the opposite problem. I could predict that for the duration of this "Special Event" nobody else is doing anything but this limited time content. So if you DON'T want to do it, or have done it already, there are no teams available for you, 'cuz they gotta do it NOW or it's gone. I used to see it during the winter holiday events in CoH all the time.

Perhaps having the knowledge that this isn't the only time it will happen EVER will alleviate that. In any case, I think finding the right timing for such events will be critical if you don't want to empty the streets whenever such an event is taking place.

For what it's worth, I would

For what it's worth, I would never really want to make any TF or trial a thing that is olny done for like a week and then never again, that's not what I'm suggesting at all. I think all content they make needs to be very doable in the long term so that the company can get the maximum use out of it.

I can already see the forum

I can already see the forum fall out from something like this. Thirty seconds after the event ends, there will be 15 new posts in the forums asking when it will be offered again.

If you had, say, 7 different

If you had, say, 7 different level 50 TFs that rotated through a full cycle every 2 weeks, that would be 2 days (48 hours) for each one and a 12 day wait after one passes before it comes back around again. I'm not even sure they'll have that many different level 50 TFs any time really soon anyway, so it might end up being more like 3 TFs and they rotate every 6 days or something.

Also, you could have one day, maybe Saturday, be the "free for all" day when you can do all of them.

Also, this is only a more severe version of Weekly Strike Target, if you want to revert back to just "added rewards for doing the one TF this week, no added rewards for others" I'm okay with that too.

As I said, I just like the idea of putting everyone on notice that there will be a "best" time to do certain things, so that it will be easier to get a team up for that at the prescribed time. I know that will tend to wreak havoc on some people's personal schedules, probably everyone's schedule to some extent, but that's unavoidable when dealing with thousands of people en masse.

This sounds a lot like the

This sounds a lot like the "Netflix/LoL-style" mission access I positted a while back. Have not every mission/TF/etc. available all the time, and instead have a large number of them up, and rotate them in and out. This will help concentrate player numbers for them, as well as make it so that even if there winds up being an "optimal" TF to run, it doesn't become the only or primary one.
