Lasor focus might be getting a bit much ...

I'm not saying everyone here is doing this, but there seems to be a rather heavily bias in these posts leaning towards making CoT exactly like CoX. I for one don't want to see that happen.

CoH did have a lot of great things the other superhero genre MMO games didn't and don't have, but that's true the other way around too. The better looking art and graphics is in DCUO right now. The more options for character design is in CO (But the art style looks a bit too cartoony for me).

CoX did it first and maybe in part because it was around and what we were all used to before the others came on the scene, it holds a place near and dear in out hearts. But lest we forget, CoT will be a new beast to conquer. Lets not get so caught up in everything we loved from CoX that we don't let the CoT Dev's stretch their creative wings and show us what great new things might be.

This new game is a tribute and built in the spirit of CoX, it's meant as I understand it, to both pay homage and recognize the players and team who built Paragon City. And yes there are obviously going to be nods of the head to the late great City of Heroes/Villains. I think we should remember to get excited for what will be even while we remember what was and try not to spend to much time comparing the two. Titans can't be what we lost in CoH, but it might be as good and even better in some ways if given the chance.

So lets take our hats off and bow our heads once more for the late City of Heroes game, but let her rest in the past in our fondest memories. Now look forward through the darkness and lend our creative minds and gaming hearts towards constructive thoughts for a new and bright future in a City of Titans.

Dem's just my two cents.

Regardless of which extreme

Regardless of which extreme we forumites sometimes stray to (I admit I may be as guilty as anyone else), everything the devs themselves have said since this project began makes me believe that they are aiming for that sweet spot in the middle, where they reproduce enough of the core elements to make it feel like CoX without adding features that would be out of character just because other games are doing it. I think when they see 2 posts advocating the 2 extremes, they take them as lighthouses -- not something one steers towards, but indicators of the edges of the safe zone, where the best option is usually to navigate directly in between.

Spurn all ye kindle.

There are two things to keep

There are two things to keep in mind.

1. CoH is the source material and a common frame of reference.
2. We have very little concrete information about CoT and most of what we do have is very broad and general.

The best that we can do right now is point to CoH and say we'd like (something like) that, or that this and that aspect of the game was great, etc. Even when we do have more information, comparisons to CoH are going to be inevitable. I've no doubt even the most ardent CoT fan* will find some aspects of the game that they believe CoH did better and may well request what they see as a change for the better. While some of us want CoT to clearly distinct from CoH, others prefer it to stay as true to CoH as possible.

If the community looks like it is very CoH-centric right now, I feel we can give ourselves the benefit of the doubt that this is primarily a matter of 'known vs unknown'.

* Barring the relatively few folks here who have not played CoH.

Our goal is to make a

Our goal is to make a spiritual successor game, and we are building this game and world from the ground up. We remain mindful of the community, and will do our best to create a place where it can grow.

As Cinnder indicated, we are interested in your input and feedback, even if it seems extreme at times. Make no mistake though, we have a definite vision toward which we are moving in development. Just from the updates released so far, you can see this will be a different game, and certainly no duplication of CoX.

Thanks for being here, and keep the comments coming.

I don't know if I see the same bias. The general impression I have gotten is more along the lines of: "I liked x from CoH, but y always bugged me, how about we change that to z". Of course there are parts of CoH that some of us may well think were handled "perfectly" and there is no need to change them. Even then though, there has been no shortage of debate over what is worth keeping.

Well, besides the community, We all agree on keeping that.

There is at least one other

There is at least one other spiritual successor trying to make as close to exactly CoH as possible. The devs here have stated multiple times that this will be it's own game that will take lessons learned from CoH AND other Superhero MMORPG's and run with them in the general spirit of what CoH STARTED.

I think the reality is that there is no danger of CoT being a CoH clone no matter what anyone on the forums says. A new game that is the child, or even grandchild (considering there have been other Superhero MMORPG's in between) of CoH, absolutely. But a clone in different clothes? That just isn't even a danger at this point.

FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)

Yeah there been enough posts

Yeah there been enough posts from the Devs that it's clear they have different systems in mind and won't be trying to copy cat. The new form of power selection for example is based off CoH, but takes it to a whole other level. So CoH players could make their old characters at the same time make new ones in ways that CoH couldn't even try.

Yeah, I wrote that post late

Yeah, I wrote that post late last night when I was half awake and staring through blurry eyes at my screen. I apologize if it came across as to much of a generalization towards the entire community. Most folks I agree get the plan and the idea as I understand it. But I've been lurking here reading for some time and there just seems to be a few of them who have unrealistic expectations of jumping into this game right where they dropped out of CoH.

Maybe I'm reading to much into it though. I'm just trying to help folks to focus on what a great game this can be rather than dwelling on what they lost in the past. Still I agree that there is a lot of great parts of CoX that could and should be emulated for CoT, just as there are parts of other superhero genre games that can be learned from. I love that in Champions Online anyone can name their character, what ever you want. Their putting the unique user name in with the character name made it so if I create Captain Ultimate and you guys wanted to create a Captain Ultimate, we all could. And no two would be the exact same because they are from different creators with different visions. My idea was to have each character have a unique birthday attached to their name creation, I.E.

Captain Ultimate@20140806-1228 says, Good morning fellow Titans!

Military DOD dates are year, month, day and if needed time. Of course this would mean that the above character was created at 12:28 PM on 6/8/2014. With that numerical code attached to the names we players create would mean to us is that each of us could create our own Captain Ultimate, and if mine ran into yours online, the birth date would let us know who was first regardless of who is higher level. I really like that.

oops, tangent time there. Sorry. Point being I agree with you guys.

Between the more or less

Between the more or less strong emotions attached to CoH and/or the characters people played there, it is understandable if some people feel skeptical about a game that proposes to be different. Different leaves a lot of room for worse, which is always a subjective interpretation, and different also leaves a lot of room for wondering if justice can be done to earlier characters. There are bound to be times when people state their cases or feelings strongly, which can always come across as more imperative or combative than intended. All of which is to say that we should do our best to remember to stay calm.

That said, this is an Internet forum. There will be trolls, there will be jerks, there will be those who appear to think "it's my way or the highway" is a useful stance to take.

When push comes to shove, remember the immortal words

Having played DCUO, CO, and

Having played DCUO, CO, and CoH I for one would like for it to lean more towards the CoH spectrum of things. I know there will be better graphics, better customization, and differences that will make CoT stand apart from CoH. I just like the overall feel and play of CoH WAY better than any other MMO I've played so far. So I'm sorry if my bias towards CoH upsets you, but CoH was the only MMO I've ever played that held my attention for longer than 3 to 6 months and that I was willing to drop any kind of money on. Yes CoH had some things that could have been improved upon and perhaps over time had NCSoft not closed it down they would have been able to do those things, or just made CoH 2.0. That is what I'm looking for from CoT. Perhaps not really CoH 2.0, but maybe CoH 6.01. We can rebuild it. We have the technology. We can make it better than it was. Better, stronger, faster.

I got chills! They're multiplyin'. And I'm losin' control. Cuz the power, I'm supplyin'. Why it's ELECTRIFYIN'!!
