I've been observing the immense success of this kickstarter, so I decided to run a few statistics.
As of this typing, we have raised $361610, with 2464 backers.
Assuming my math is right, this kickstarter has been running for 159 hours.
At this rate the kickstarter is earning $2274 per hour.
And the most impressive statistic, the average donation amount is $146.75.
How are we getting this huge average donation amount? I ran a few averages on other kickstarter games.
Project Awakened ran in at $54
Might no. 9 ran in at $57
Any other game I am looking at is anywhere between a $15 average to $70 average, nothing comes close to even breaking $100, and we blew past that.
Obviously we are doing something right.

Well, the add-ins certainly helped I'm sure (I'm not a kicker of any of the listed projects, don't know if they had add-ins too). The other thing is, a lot of us want the game, of the 2,492 backers, 1,811 (72.7%) are in the $50 (Home Sweet Home), $75 (Fly Free) and $125 (Dynamic Duo) amounts, guaranteeing them a copy of the game (2 in the case of DD). That is what I think the main fuel for that average.

The Titan Legacy - Defender of the Inner Flame
The major source of initial funds is coming from long time players of a community that has a high percentage of family players, multi-account players, group players, etc. The desire to re-bond with our friends and family in the world that most of us feel was needlessly taken away, is very high. So you are looking at dollar amounts that reflect the same main demographic of the community as it was / still is.
On the flip side, there will be plenty of others, and newcomers that don't even know what this project is besides 'yet another MMO' and will just donate a few bucks. I'm happy for whatever anyone can give. Even if it's just a thumbs up. Times are tough and everyone is hurtin' right now. Except maybe for NC Soft. Although I'd say they are actually getting a little bit of an eyebrow raised at this point. Even if it is just a little bit... makes me smile inside :)
I have a thought on this.
It has now been what, 11 months since "sunset?" And since NCSoft stopped accepting payment for more time in COH at the announcement, it's been 14 months no one has paid for time in COH.
Depending on which endpoint you choose, and given that people on the 12-month discount plan paid less than $15 (what was it again? Like, $12.95?), that's somewhere between $142.45 and $210 most players would have spent on the game had it NOT shut down.
I am putting at least that amount into the Kickstarter myself. You guys deserve AT A MINIMUM what I would have given to the jerks at NCSoft. Plus, it's all "found money" I had planned to spend on superhero gaming anyway.
Maybe other players are thinking that way too?
Captain of Phoenix Rising
Who are you replying to? I didn't say it would be City of Heroes.
Captain of Phoenix Rising
And you are quite right, it will not be City of Heroes. It will far surpass City of Heroes.
