Another year, another Memorial Day, another hero story.
This is an open RP thread with a theme and an underlying plot. Anyone can join in, in as big or as little a way as you have time and inclination to do!
Situation/Theme: [b][i]The villain groups of Titan City are all inexplicably going to war against each other. What do you do as a hero?[/i][/b]
[b]Suggestions:[/b]
Suggestion #1. Jump in with a post about your character(s) responding to the situation. This works for anyone, and can be as long or short as you like. You can connect it to other threads or not, collaborate with other players or not. Responses could be fighting, civilian assistance, protecting others, etc.
Suggestion #2. Contact or set up interaction between different characters to respond to the situation. This works best for folks who have the opportunity to post frequently and coordinate with each other. It is also a good way for newer/less-frequent posters to get connected with some of the people who are most often participating in forum RP.
Suggestion #3. The cause of the recognized and previously-unrecognized villain group hostility is unknown. This is ripe for investigation!

Request #1. Forum RP regulars, would you please help hook in folks who reach out from Suggestion #2, above? You usually do, anyway. :)
Request #2. Don't jump immediately to the discovery that Themis and Ares are behind this. Investigation is great, and should reveal divine interference before long, but let's develop it, rather than vaulting direct to it.
Request #3. As usual, use the OOC thread to coordinate. I will do my best to answer questions here as we go along.

The hard part is RPing D-Day differently than I play Rotten Luck. They have similar nature being Ron's normally a Brute and D-Day a tank leaning to brute type.
D-Day absorbs Kinetic energy the more he absorbs the stronger he is. That leading him to the Brute build nature. He can channel that kinetic force into energy melee attacks.

Not sure why I'm bringing in Hotwire. I introduced her as a side character in the Grayson Tower hosting the betting on superpower fights. Gave her a slight upgrade... or maybe not! Basic power is a techno-kinetic at least she was. Now maybe some kind of Ghost in the machine?
Anyway with all her customers now going for each other's throats and like she said that mad scientist took out one of her dishes, and not to mention any camera's she hacked/hid. Yeah someone messing with V.T.V. is going to get a power surge!

I'm not really expecting the force field to stop Hotwire, as you've described her.
Other things are heating up across the city, too, and heroes are rallying to put a stop to them.

I'm thinking Hotwire has evolved from her first appearance to a living program. Able to manipulate technology to house her awareness. Yeah, I'm liking that idea. A living virus able to change what she infects to better suit her needs.
So for combat she has Energy blades and defensive will be something like regeneration/willpower because the damage will be to the equipment she can repair it when it's damaged.

Yeah, or replace it... Hmm going to have to think of how to weaken that feature. Originally, she was a mutant that could interface directly with machines and had some techno kinetics.
Perhaps she has a limited range and number of things she can affect to such an extent. Hacking into cameras and computers don't count! Okay, when she manifests in physical form anything she manipulates is integrated into that form. The camera drone just a basic flying camera maybe gives her an ACC advantage for she could use it as an extra eye. So she can't say make an army of killer robots. She has to have direct control over what she interface with and that's a limited number of things. Maybe three. Her "Body" and two drones. That a good limitation.
Of course, when she's loose on the web she can hack security feeds and computers. Hence the Villain T.V. gig. Then she loses the physical form in order to have such a wide access.

Maybe if she takes over a computer she gets its built-in access? So if it's a server with multiple connections to the internet...
Also, Duchess is about to get really upset with Hotwire if it turns out those 'bots were sapient.

I'm thinking there only so much data that forms her. So if she spread out over the city network she can't form a body. When she compresses herself to form a physical form she can only access so much. True if she just takes over a computer already hooked to a network. That why I said cameras and normal computers are kind of different. All she needs then is access to a server or security monitoring system. So instead of infecting everything she just using the main system.

Regarding the torture v. stealing evidence: If the bots don't have the apparent complexity to support sapience without magic, then likely they either weren't sapient or the magic has ceased to function. But if they do have that complexity...

Would figure being fried by an EMP killed it. If anything it could be said she brought it back to life having repaired it and gave it a new function.
If it was self-aware the AI would be on the hard drive that might have survived the blast. But given EMP stands for electromagnetic pulse, it depends on the type of Hard drive. A solid state hard drive would be wiped out, a magnetic disk drive with the spinning disk inside would be shielded. The moving parts of that type of disk drive use magnets so the case is shielded to protect the rest of the computer. So an EMP wouldn't wipe out the data. Given the size of the robots involved, I'm going with a solid state drive in my thinking.

But the bots were moving/attacking and speaking in concert, which is typically indicative of a hive mind. If that's true and they are sapient, the 'mind' may be elsewhere.

If it matters, the little robots are pretty "dumb" as bots go, and the sentience controlling them is part of a greater collective.

Rethinking her power set. With D-Day already active in the thread I don't want two close range types.
Given she shown to have some kind of electrical powers the jolting electricity as she takes over and modifies tech, and her appearance. I'm leaning more to an Electric type for offensive attacks.

I am going to do a lot of guessing about the Deadly 7, so take everything with a big grain of salt. I'm buzzing between a number of writing projects (some paid!) and not as steeped in the revealed lore as I would like to be. Would it consider anything that was cut relevant? Especially considering that the audio snippet might help it find its lost swarmlings, contrary to what Hotwire said was likely in the full quote.
Not that it matters much to Duchess, she's not in the hero biz for the rep.

The Duchess is relying on buckyweave body armor (it just looks like denim), a force field that will mostly protect her from light autocannon fire (like the A-10 Warthog's 30 mm) and her sixsight, which is fifty percent better than foresight. ^_^

I figure if anything can slip out of Abysm's little box, tachyons will.
The Experiment is the logical next step in testing out their teleport system: A sapient biological organism. It works fine with inanimate objects, computer systems, sapient computer systems, and little white mice... But for some reason they haven't gotten around to human trials yet, despite being friends with a guy who does teleport routinely. ^_^
Their teleport system is more like making a portal and moving it past the subject, than like the disassembly and remote reassembly of Star Trek fame.
And if it doesn't work, Officer Kowalski can try distracting Abysm.

If these character descriptions, powers, etc. don't match what the design team already has in the notebooks, we can always say, "That wasn't the [i]real[/i] Deadly 7! Those were decoys, or imposters! Yeah, that's the ticket!" :)

Hmm... They can certainly relate these facts to those who can interact with them:
1. The villain groups went to War with each other, with a capital "W." (Will not mention Ares by name)
2. This is a divine test of Justice, with a capital "J," but not a Divine thing, with a capital "D." (Will not mention Themis by name)
3. The ones responsible are still in the city, watching to see what happens.
4. The celestial servants/messengers are not permitted to interfere, as the deities concerned are exercising their rightful prerogatives.

I'm interpreting the Deadly 7 as signature AV characters. Attacks against their strengths simply won't do anything significant for story purposes, no matter how strong. (Just wanted you to know why I am having Beatdown not be affected by/avoid the incoming damaging attacks.)

Yeah, I messed up the timing. Kind of worked showing how fast time for the Digital Dame is. She is used to running calculations and such at the speed of computer processors. So it kind of fits she losing the grasp of real world time.

D-day's first assignment was well D-day. Hence, the name his powers activated as he charged the beaches of Normandy. Given the time line June 6, 1944, D-day itself through May 7, 1945, when Germany's unconditional surrender at Reims wasn't that long of a time for him to be active. Thought he could have became a front line fighter a human tank as they pushed into German-controlled France.

OK. Yeah, Fraulein Dammerung would have been working with OSS types, in Germany and German-occupied lands. As the front moved up on an area, she wouldn't be needed there, and would be more needed where they were getting desperate. And after V-E Day, there have been no confirmed public sightings. ^_^

Technically, as I am using them... [b]Themis[/b] was apparently the (titan) goddess of divine justice, with separate-but-closely-related portfolio to her daughter, [b]Dike[/b], goddess of mortal justice, or justice as carried out in law. Given the subject of justice broadly in the context of war, Themis seemed a better match than Dike. (Who would be more fitting in a war crimes kind of scenario.) Plus, with Themis actually being a titan... it just seemed a natural go-together! :D
Themis would make a great statue for Titan City, somewhere, definitely! Most statues of "Lady Justice" represent Dike with sword, scales, and with or without blindfold, as I found them, and as your search revealed.
Also: Beatdown and Abyss will be carted safely off to the highest security jail possible, from which I am sure they will later escape. C'est la vie.

Yeah, the Asiatic features with a name like Kowalski and a Nordic connection has been boggling my mind for a long time, Foradain! But, nice to spin out the diversity to assumption-breaking levels. :D
RL's idea that D-Day expressed is actually a really good one, if no one else currently in the mix can quickly locate the divine influence. Armed with the info that we have Ares and Themis doing something, Sheena could very simply find them, given the current situation.

Now nothing wrong with talking to yourself. it's mostly just her saying out loud what she thinking then really talking. Thought that habit did start when she was in a mental hospital mostly to have something to hear. The whole issues with authority come from that stay and the fact her parents first tried to cure her of the unnatural power she has then hidden her away in said hospital. Basically, her family is big anti-super so when she showed signs of powers things got rough for her.
As my therapist said there nothing wrong with talking with yourself, nothing wrong with arguing with yourself, it's when you lose the argument that's when you are in trouble.
I may not write my characters down but I do have a pretty good backstory and character sheet in my head for them.
Speaking of character... D-Day going to have a different travel power. been thinking flying doesn't fit, instead, he's going to have Super Jump. Instead of channeling the kinetic force into his fist he channels it down to Super Jump and absorbs the Kinetic energy when he lands. That a lot more logical then him flying. As for why he slow aging well maybe it's something to do with rapid healing or damage resistance including genetic damage?

I'm tempted to throw in a last, finishing battle for excitement purposes, but the point of the thread was more Memorial Day-focused than action. We've drawn this one out to the right length to end it, I think.

Basically, I figure Dutchess and Tinkerbelle are smart enough to figure out how to trap Hotwire in a Faraday cage with enough prep time. Hence why she said Dutches was probably the only one that could capture her.

Oh, yes. That or force fields like they made for [font=lucida bright]AIko[/font].It just needed a bit more prep time than her sixsight would've given her.
Also, I'm fairly sure Deer Fall Park (did I get the name right? I can't check the video right now) is more East or Southeast, and if it is Northeast, then Duchess went North. The family will drive in their faux-Tucker. ^_^
