Illiad: Atlas Initiative IC Thread

Arthur Anderson was running out of lobby to pace.

The 4th Generation veteran and millionaire industrialist stood on in the first floor reception of the UN HQ in New York, refreshing and scrolling on the page of files on his tablet more times than he can count.

With the time zones, he knew he should probably be more patient, they were flying in from over 9 countries. The they, were what Anderson Industries, multiple donors and goodwill ambassadors, and his own hopes and dreams had been galavanizing and planning for over a year.

The Atlas Initiative, one of the first names suggested on the whiteboard by an intern and in the end, the one that stuck. A collection of heroes from UN member countries all around the globe contributing their best and most admired, in a form of living tribute and a defense against threats like Hurricane Atlas.

And it sat on a desk in a dust-lined packet for 20 years. Arguing, bickering, removals, submissions, heroic scandals, accusations of favoritism by UN Security Council members, and more.

It was deadlocked, with no one decided how to turn a heroic idea into action while buried under buerucratic and political doubts and tape. When Arthur was nominated as a goodwill ambassador for the UN this year, he was advised to go after the Atlas Initiative as a positive PR move, one to help it compete with fellow industrialist Stanton Parrish.

Except for him it wasn’t. He poured over those documents and the suggestions and the ideas, and worked them. Over and over, he made calls, consulted, and flew out around the globe.

Anything to make sure this got off the ground and didn’t die like the 33 heroes that day. Like American Star.

So now, he waited in the garage for the first arrivals of the newly proposed Atlas Initiative from the airport.

And hoped this thing didn’t die before ratification.

"It's pronounced ka-léh-oh."

"It's pronounced ka-léh-oh."
Oh, Almost! Those a's with the lines over them are doubled, so it sounds like ka ana'a ana'a.
Yes it's Hawaiian.
Yes, I'm Hawaiian too. Yes, it's very warm there. mhm. yes, the beaches are beautiful. mhm. So the car will pick me up at the airport? Great. Thank you. Yes, Mahalo indeed. Good bye."
The man they call Kahuna put the phone down and and struggled to put the seatbelt on over his girth. It's a good thing they put him in first class for the flight to New York. One look at those seats back there and he know he wouldn't have fit.

The retired looking couple across the isle were staring at him. They may have recognized him. Or not. It's not like he was really that famous at home. At home, he was just another example of the white man's cultural misappropriation of Hawaiian culture to fulfill their own fantasies. He was viewed as just a walking dog, a side show act to bring in New Age pilgrims and their money. But to the Haole's, the contiguous 48, Japan and Europe, he was THE Kahuna, the one who can channel the life force, the Huna, so powerfully they say you can feel it. They claim he single-handedly brought huna spiritualism out of obscurity and into the mainstream. Of course these same "they" are also the ones turning that spiritualism into a multi-million dollar tourist and self-help industry preying on the needs of the empty masses.

But the thing is, he actually can speak with the spirits and harness forces powerfully enough to protect, heal and guide. But so what if he isn't the phony they think he is back home. The other members of this Atlas Initiative are so much more heroic. Well, he had to admit a couple of them are a bit mysterious, but they all seem so... well,... so action oriented. Why did he get chosen? He's no action hero. Probably one of those diversity quota things. He could picture a room full of PR executives saying to each other, "Hey lets get that fat pacific islander, the people will love him and the diversity zealots will leave us alone."

Oh well. If it doesn't work out, at least he always has his business back home, chanting for the tourists and the people seeking actual inner peace.

A couple hours later, somewhere over the pacific, the pilot announced they would be experiencing some turbulence. And a few minutes after that it hit. It was bad. The plane seemed to drop hundreds of feet at a time and it started leaning more and more to the left.
People were starting to panic. That's when the retired woman across from him shrieked and started pawing at her husband. He looked like he had fallen unconscious.

It took Kahuna just a moment to reach transcendence. He'd had plenty of practice. He saw the man's heart was having trouble keeping a rhythm and wasn't pumping blood well. The amount of panic on the plane was astounding. But even more worrying was the hopelessness emanating from the cockpit. Apparently there were mechanical problems as well.

First thing's first. He started chanting a soothing chant to calm everyone. In moments, the levels of panic subsided throughout the plane. He sang louder anyway, added a few lines of strength and accord, and directed them at the troubled man across the isle. His heart found its proper rhythm and when his breathing steadied and the color came back to his face, the gasping sob of his wife let Kahuna know it worked. He then added a new melody and changed the chant to protection, using some rare phrases he knew were used in the days before Kamehameha. He extended the protection around the airplane and there he saw the damage soaking up the intent like a sponge soaking up the water from a shallow puddle. He shifted the intent from protection to endurance and added some strength back into it. He kept pouring the intent into that sponge and it kept soaking it right up.

Up in the cockpit the rapidly falling hydraulic pressure stopped falling and the pilots were able to restore some control surfaces to action. The plane levelled off. He added a weather protection ward to his chant to keep any more windshear away.

The man they call Kahuna kept chanting for the remaining two and a half hours and by the time the plane touched down in LAX he was exhausted, but he kept chanting until they reached the gate. When he finally stopped chanting, the hydraulics ruptured, the fluid caught fire and the right wing was engulfed in flame until the pilots shut down those engines and systems a few seconds later.

Okay, so he may not be an A-list headline-grabbing hero, but if he learned anything from this, he was confident he could make a difference. He would give this Atlas Initiative his best effort.

Later that day the headline read "Kahuna Saves Jet and 148 Passengers from Certain Death," but Kaleo Kaʻanāʻanā, the man they call Kahuna, was unaware as he slept like a baby on the next flight to New York.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

Safiya should have planned for this, she thought and sighed, as she, or rather the Egyptian heroine known as Medjay, sent a flaming arrow through the armored hull of the hijacked museum security van.

She had just finished giving an intern at the history museum of tour of the facilities when she felt it. The senses of a supernatural hunter locking her into the sound of a scuffle rooms and walks away, grunts cut off by tasers, and a museum van full of valuables careening down a side street.

Running with enough speed to pass cars idling at 30, the mystical archer allowed her boon to guide her movements, the bullets fired at her finding concrete instead of flesh as she gained on her quarry.

She squinted, and then smirked. Three men, light body armor, two sub machine guns and a handgun for the driver, from what she could hear reloading in the truck.

Perfect.

Bouncing forward in a leap, she allowed herself to twist at the last moment, landing on top of the van with enough force to jostle it’s suspension, before grabbing on the the back edge of the truck and kicking through the doors, her arrow from earlier having weakened its latch.

Slamming a thug to the ground under the van door, she rolled forward just in time to dodge a brief spray of bullets, hooking her bow around the neck of the second thug and pulling the string with her strength added to dryfire sending him to the floor.

Rounding on the driver who’s eyes widen in the rearview mirror, she resolves to quickly end the conflict with a simple but measured slam of his head to the wheel, slowing the van to a stop as she deposits his body into the passenger seat.

After a quick tying up and statement with the police, the heroine would run a hand along the golden ankh bearing bracer on her left arm, allowing her to resume her civilian attire once more, just in time for her to call an uber, and make it to Logan International for her flight to New York.

Dr. Safiya Mahmoud, or Medjay, had a date with the Atlas Initiative.

"Yes Mum, no mum, no, not a problem I changed the votes so I could take this assignment. Yes I know. No, it wouldn't have suited sending The Iron Druid. Yes I am okay with this assignment Mum. Druid wouldn't have been able to do as you request mum. I trained him, he doesn't have it in him. He wouldn't have been able to act. He is very loyal to the Crown Mum, but his personal ethics are very... rigid. No that was not a play on his code name mum. Yes I will be sure to report back on this Atlas Initiative weekly. No mum, I would not place this group as a high threat I just went over their files. Yes, no, no, yes. I understand the risk. At the end of the day we both know I am now an expendable asset. Yes I will. My liaison is here now, good day."

To everyone in earshot or with any form of perceptive powers a slightly older gentlemen had just got done speaking to a florist about an order for his granddaughters upcoming 3rd birthday.

Mr. Tinker put away his phone. It was an odd shape and seemed to absorb itself into his briefcase, strange, but not very noticeable or even noteworthy inside the building he now occupied.

Tinker watched as his handler assigned by Anderson approached him. A nondescript woman in her early twenties. She seemed very nervous. "Now Ms. Stevens please be at ease. I was told we were meeting here today?" Ms. Stevens looked confused for a second since she had not introduced herself but regained her composure quickly. " Yes Mr... Tinker?" Tinker smiled mildly and tipped his hat just a bit. "Yes Mam, if I may ask are we all meeting in the lobby or is their a different location arranged for us?" Ms. Stevens looked at her watch, Tinker was early, according to Anderson most likely on purpose. She had been warned to be very careful around this man, but he seemed very mellow, a lot like her own dad but in better shape.

"Oh no not here, Mr. Anderson has prepared a greeting for everyone once they arrive. I believe you are the first but I am not sure. I was assigned to assist only you. Mr. Anderson said you had an accident recently and it would be best if you had someone to fetch things for you while in building."

Tinker contained his smile. Anderson was shrewd. If Tinker was kept in certain rooms he wouldn't be able to get access to any interesting company data. All in time. There had to be so many secrets in this building. Fantastic, wonderful secrets.

Tinker allowed himself to be escorted to the Elevators and brought up to the floor where the meeting was to take place.

The American Hero; Monument

The American Hero; Monument touches ground just outside the Garage where Arthur was. Glad he was there first so he, and America, could make a good first impression.

He waves to Arthur as he saunters over, "Arthur, nice to see you again. They've finally got this underway, huh?"

Monument stands at 6'5", well built, with a chiseled jaw, short brown hair, and blue eyes. He wears a patriotic costume with a detachable cape, and walks like he owns the place. Popular with most Americans he's said to be a true American hero.

When he comes up to Arthur he offers a hand to shake.

"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."

Arthur would shake the patriotic brick’s hand, noting the strength of the grip and chuckling.

“Hey, if they hear us complain they may add another 20 for ‘aired grievances’.” He jokes, walking and talking with Monument as he reveals.

“You know some countries considered power sappers in the meeting room? Of all places you think the UN is the one place you want heroes.” He regales to Monument and smiles.

“You want to know what that tells me?”

He would be interrupted by the sound of a car pulling next to where Monument was deposited, and out of the rental would step a pair of arab looking men, their flag pins marking them as Egyptian, as Medjay steps out of the Escalade with a smirk.

“That just maybe, they think this might be the meeting to do it.” She answers, as she speaks briefly in Saudi Arabic to the younger of the two men, a attractive and scruff bearing man who appears to be an assistant to the liaison.

With a brief exchange, he is off, and after the older liaison leans forward to whisper in her ear, the two aides would head inside.

Safiya would smile, shaking her head, before extending a strong hand to Monument, an equal distribution of force, and a decidedly softer one to Arthur.

“Dr. Safiya Mahmoud, or Medjay, at your service.”

Arthur would smile, and check something off on his tablet.

“I didn’t know Egypt was so keen as to beat other countries here first, I’m am pleasantly surprised Miss Mahmoud.”

He would start the sentence off in Arabic, but after a stutter, would fall back into English, a gaff that causes Safiya to laugh with no malice felt.

“I have been working at the Titan City Museum of Art near Massachusetts and Esphesus, I was closer than most on the list and we felt given the way some of my countrymen about the act, a good first impression was in our favor.” She explains.

Arthur than offers a apologetic hand and steps away from the pair to take a call, as Medjay turns to Monument with a pleasant, yet curious expression.

“If you’re wondering what the liaison said to me, he was warning me to be wary of American ‘strongarming’.” She then grins.

“I like to exchange paranoia with facts and not the other way around-and I do know is that your record speaks for itself.” She compliments before asking with a bit of frankness.

“Think this is finally happening? Something about today feels decidedly...different.”

The China Eastern Airlines

The China Eastern Airlines Triple-Seven touched down at JFK International Airport a bit over fifteen hours after it had left Shanghai's Pudong International Airport. Wan Shan-Ling came off the plane in the middle of a crowd of tourists, students, and business travellers. She took the opportunity to stretch a bit, and then surreptitiously cast a cantrip to clean and press her business skirt-suit. As she came out of the tube, she spotted an earnest young man off to the side with a sign emblazoned: 黄昏
The symbols were read in Cantonese as Huáng Hūn, and meant Twilight. Or perhaps Dusk. But that was her, a code name bestowed upon her by her colleagues in the OCTB. So she headed over to the man with the sign and asked, < So, we are taking my code-name public? >

He smiled as he lowered the sign and displayed his ID.

< Excellent. Lead the way. >

Mr. Sun sped their way through Customs, displaying the appropriate documents verifying that Shan-Ling was attached to the Chinese mission to the UN, and within minutes they were in a seemingly ordinary hybrid car and on the way into New York, with the sun rising behind them. Back in China, it was already evening.

As they passed the UN, Shan-Ling asked, < Isn't that- >

< Yes, it is. And the consulate is less than three kilometers down this street. > The driver turned right, and then left again. < But they are among the busiest three kilometers in this hemisphere. >

Finally, they got to the far side of the island, and to the consulate. Wan Shan-Ling was introduce to the staff, and tried on the costume that had been designed for her. After putting it on, she addressed Mr. Sun. < While I appreciate the offer of a ride to the United Nations, I think I will get there more quickly on my own. >

She stepped outside, and called down a cloud. She sat on it, and flew above the traffic on Forty-Second Street back to the UN. Seeing two people in costume talking to a man in a business suit, just inside an open garage, she landed and the cloud dissipated. "Mr. Anderson, I presume? I am Twilight."

Arthur would slip the government issue phone into his suit pocket, audibly hearing with a bit of disbelief stating.

“-Not something you see every day. It is good to meet you, Miss. Ling. The OCTB has nothing but praise to pass on to our guys here and more importantly our media team, it will be a pleasure to have you join us.” He smiles, before turning back to chat with aides and other retainers, ensuring flights and proper people were arriving on time.

—————

Medjay would take stock of the woman who appeared from the cloud, and would offer her a greeting smile and a warm hand to shake.

As she got closer, amidst the ever present smell of susinim about her, Wan Shan-Ling would note a palpable magical aura, even at its base reading coming off as distinctly divine. If familiar with portfolios of Egyptian dieties, she would spot the symbol of Neith, a bow flanked by crosses arrows like a shield, as the buckle for her belt.

“A pleasure to meet someone with your reputation, Miss Ling.” She speaks in lightly accented English, a pretty but noticeable lilt gracing her words. She then adds with a slight grin.

“I’m glad it won’t be just the boys that get to play on this team.”

"M... "

"M... "

At a warning glance from the superhuman, the young official from the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs cut off the honourific, abruptly trailing off in a stammer. He tugged on the lapels of his suit jacket - a bad nervous habit, he knew, and as a further nervous habit, he checked his pin, with the pattern of the French Tricolour.

"Dubois," he said, instead. As embassy staff assigned to the primary diplomatic mission in Washington D.C., he hadn't been expecting to shepherd around one of the few French superheroes with government connections. But, no, the costumed hero had arrived in the United States of America early, and had chosen to check in with the Ambassador instead. And now he was playing escort for a superhuman who was supposed to be notoriously picky about certain matters of etiquette and decorum - for example, eschewing gendered honourifics.

"Decade," the costumed figure corrected, mildly, tapping one gloved finger against their sealed helmet.

The embassy official flinched. "Ah, yes, of course, I'm sorry. I believe we... "

Decade planted a hand on his shoulder, firmly. "It is quite alright. I see them. I believe this will be fine, I can take it from here, yes?"

"Wait, see them, what, where--"

But the costumed superhuman was already in motion, giving a casual wave over their shoulder, though they did not look back.

The exterior of the United Nations complex in New York City was surrounded by a wide, paved, plaza. Despite that fact, it often wasn't crowded, given the discreet security cordons and pedestrian traffic control in place around the square. As such, a costumed-clad individual was distinct enough, being close to the only person strolling across the slate-grey expanse. They paused, momentarily, seemingly peering at the shiny globular brass-and-copper sculpture, before shrugging and moving on.

Decade entered through the doors, after a brief word with the other line of security personnel - and still trailed, a few paces back, by a confused junior French diplomat. Decade wandered down a spiral flight of stairs, then stopped, once again, at a gift shop, which allowed the diplomat to catch up. The embassy official found the French hero standing before a table of stuffed animals, holding a teddy bear in a powder-blue UN t-shirt in one hand, and a little French flag in the other.

"Ah, I---"

"Sadly," Decade murmured, in a voice faintly muffled by the helmet, "I did not bring enough American currency. Would you mind... "

"Of course," came the hurried reply, "I can... "

"Excellent," Decade said, handing both items over. "I will proceed to the meeting, then."

"Ah, what?"

"It is mostly the heroes, you see? I do not sense other country representatives, and so we would not want to be awkward. But do not worry, I will report to the Ministry, yes? If your desk complains, please tell them I asked you to... buy a bear."

Before the poor man could really process it, the hero was gone, moving back towards the stairs with quick strides.

A few moments later, and sans minder, Decade slipped into the room a floor above. A helmeted head turned back and forth as it swept the space, noting entrances, exists, and general layout, before the body it was attached to subsided into a more relaxed stance.

The French representative was a thin, androgynous figure - the dark grey and lightly-armoured full-body costume gave little hint as to ethnicity or the specifics of biology, and their face was hidden by a seemingly featureless helmet. Over the costume, Decade wore a baggy waterproof French Army coat, in the drab four-colour woodland shades of Camouflage Europe Centrale, though it was open and unfastened.

"M. Anderson," said Decade, nodding politely, with both arms clasped behind the back. No handshakes here. "Mme. Twilight, Mme. Medjay, M. Monument."

Medjay took stock of the hero

Medjay took stock of the hero before her, noting the coat and lapel indicating his allegiance, and his body language was obvious.

Opting for a simple smile, she would speak in greeting. “A pleasure to meet you, Decade.” She says earnestly, as Anderson follows.

“Glad you could make it, I trust you had no trouble-” He would pause, before looking around to see that Decade was alone.

“Did you send your aide on ahead or...?” He would ask, but waves his hand as he states simply. “It doesn’t matter, the meeting is due to start soon and we should being making our way inside.”

He then adds as a quick thought. “There are aides to guide the others here if they arrive a bit late. I would wait, but I don’t have another 20 years to pitch this.” He jokes as he leads them inside and towards the elevators.

A few days earlier...

Early the previous day...

In a less used corner of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, Sanjay Rao jogged across the tarmac after disembarking from an old but well-maintained DC-3. He was clad in a deep green and pale silver sherwani and walked with an easy, assured gait. Just as he was about to step onto the bus to the terminal, the sound of an approaching heavy vehicle rounded the corner of the nearby pump facility. He looked back to see a fuel carrier barreling towards the bus, seemingly having no intent of swerving to miss.

Sanjay whipped back around and stepped forward to grab the two people in front of him. With a quick, but careful toss, he lofted them on to the flat roof of the bus. He then raised a foot and stomped thunderously, which caused the tarmac between his feet and the bus to churn up. In a dance-like motion, he scraped a foot and then pushed with both hands. The churned earth grabbed the wheels of the bus and carried it out of the path of the charging truck. With only a split-second remaining, he slapped his hands to his sides and spun with a scraping foot. The earth opened up and he slipped beneath it just as the carrier thundered by.

Sanjay stomped the ground and a column of earth shot him back to the surface. He landed on his feet and began running after the carrier. He jumped and punched both hands forward, causing earth to rise up and catch his feet. He accelerated with a skating motion and tore after the vehicle, which was racing towards the more populated taxiways near the main terminals.

He quickly closed with the carrier and came alongside, but each time he tried to board it, the driver swerved away. With an arcing motion of his arm, Sanjay forced a curving patch of earth to rise up in front of the truck, but it just swerved around and continued on its path. He twisted his arm with fingers splayed and shot it forward, tearing up finger-sized chunks of earth and firing them forwards. They peppered the vehicle, succeeding in blowing a tire and punching holes in the tank, but it still continued on. Sanjay couldn't do more because his range of motion was limited while he was trying to keep up with the truck.

As they came around the corner of the main terminal, the driver redlined the carrier towards the planes and their intent became clear. They were going to ram one of the packed international planes, causing an explosion and killing an untold number of people. "Not today!" Sanjay said to himself and he chased it with renewed intent. But the driver was simply too canny.

With only seconds to spare, Sanjay raised both arms suddenly. His "skates" turned into columns of earth that shot him upwards. He flew through a forward flip and came down hard, landing in a crouch to hammer the earth with both fists, all the momentum of his fall put into the motion. The ground ripped open in a long crack that closed with the truck in an instant. A huge column of earth erupted from underneath the carrier and flung it skyward, spinning end over end. Sanjay raised both hands, palms up, and a ramp of earth rose to catch the truck, preventing it from plummeting far enough to rupture or detonate. He lowered his hands and the ramp receded, leaving the truck laying on its side, just as the airport police arrived to take charge of the driver.

Sanjay took a moment to catch his breath, then he was escorted off the tarmac. Though there was an interrogation, it was mercifully short due to his new status as a UN sponsored hero. Before departing India later that day, he did return to the tarmac to fix all the holes and upthrusts he'd created, then assisted in the repaving.

The day of the meeting...

Sanjay stepped out of his limo and strode down the ramp into the UN building garage with little fanfare. Once again, he was clad in a green and silver sherwani, though this one was silk and embroidered with gold trim. He arrived at the informal meeting a few minutes later and stopped a respectful distance from the others to greet them with a namaskar.

Sanjay spoke in a strong but understandable accent. "Namaste. I am called Hand of Dhara. It is a divine pleasure to meet all of you."

Tinker reclined in the soft

Tinker reclined in the soft leather chair. It had a feel of money well spent. It didn't stand out visually like someone of new money trying to impress. Instead it had that feeling of perfectly worked craftsmanship. This wouldn't be the worst assignment he had ever taken.
Tinker watched on a nondescript display as a few of his soon to be team members assembled on the floors below. It seemed like the former colonies were sending somewhat stereotypical heroes. Tinker mused that heroes that were yes voted were so representative of their country that a no vote would have been seen as a slight against the sponsoring country.
"United States, brute, expected. Egypt sends a tourist attraction of a warrior, The East and far east send mysticism and religion. France sends, a Frank." Tinker spoke to himself since his quick examination of the room gave him nothing of interest to investigate. "Well chap it seems I am the only odd man out of this assortment."

Ms. Stevens had returned to the room with a tray and what smelled of Masala Chai Tea. She offered the cup to Mr. Tinker. "Dear I do appreciate the offer, but it isn't quite time for a cuppa. Though our recent arrival may want it before it goes cold. I believe he had quite a workout at the airport not long ago."

Tinker, straightened his pettycoat and adjusted his gloves slightly before bringing his attention to the door leading to the hall the elevator exited.

Medjay would take note of

Medjay would take note of Sanjay’s arrival, and those like Twilight and Kahuna could feel the impression of a divine touch as a brief manifestation of the Eye of Horus is seen on the woman’s forehead. To those without a sense of the arcane or divine magic, her visual assessment would seem piercing all the same.

Nonetheless, she offers a firm hand to shake, as she speaks in greeting after Mr. Anderson gives the hero a standard greeting.

“Medjay, a pleasure and an honor to meet you. Or Dr. Mahmoud, whichever title fits most given our situation.”

Earlier that day, Kahuna had

Earlier that day, Kahuna had no problem waking up even though New York was 6 hours earlier than his home island. He was going to meet real superheroes! At the UN! He twisted a little dance in place out of sheer fanboy giddiness.

When he stepped out of the car to meet them, he was quite conscious of the car's motion as he shifted his bulk out of it. All eyes turned to him and his blood turned to ice as he just stood there, staring back at the assembled might in front of him, casually poised and waiting as if it was just another day. Wow! Almost like they were actual, real people.

Eventually he unlocked his hands from each other, stood up straight and chose to act like he belonged. He smoothed his Ahu'ula (a cape made from feathers) and his sarong and sauntered confidently over to the waiting group, greeting each by name. To those watching, the totally transparent false confidence and bluster unfortunately gave a rather comedic impression, however.

"You must be Kahuna," said someone. He was a bit flustered to know whom. He blushed deeply in the realization that he failed to introduce himself in his eagerness. "Yes. I am Kahuna, it is a pleasure to meet you all. I hope we can do great things together." Just the act of vocalizing the very concept of together with these people was enough to send him into a mental spin. He centered himself, called on the spirits for calm, and then followed Mr. Anderson and the others inside.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

As they arrived, Shan-Ling

As they arrived, Shan-Ling returned their greetings, introducing herself as "Twilight, or Dectective-Inspector Wan when appropriate." To most she offered a handshake, but she returned the namaskar of The Hand of Dhara with the one-handed variation found in Shao-Lin tradition. As they followed Mr. Anderson in she waived to the camera that had been providing imagery to Tinker.

It had been an exciting last

It had been an exciting last month for Stephanie as she was returning back to her new home in America. Originally from Venezuela, Stephanie had moved to the U.S. in pursuit of a college scholarship and to take advantage of leaving her home country to explore what new horizons came in store.

Having boarded the plane a day or so before, Stephanie's flight was preparing to land shortly and she couldn't help but be overly giddy at the new acquaintences she was bound to meet.

With her plane finally landing and her unboarding her luggage, she met up with Arthur and any other affiliates of the Initiative. Before them would stand a beautiful vixen in her early twenties with tan/toned-complected hair and brown eyes and a thick Spanish accent.

"Hiya! Sorry if I'm little late. Was kinda occupied with some family visiting back home." She smiled. It would be notably clear that while the young girl knew some English, it was or could get very choppy in some areas. Despite this it should still be understandable the words that she is trying to get across in passing conversation.

"So, does this be everyone?"

"If I am to die in battle, Remember me for who I was and not what I've become..."

Mr. Anderson would nod at the

Mr. Anderson would nod in acknowledgment at Stephanie whilst on the phone, not caring the slightest about her accent or potential tardiness, and would being to usher the heroes towards the elevators to the main chamber of the UN.

Once there, they would have some time to sit by their own country’s representatives, with the meeting to officially begin in a few short minutes.

“We have been charged here today, to discuss with consider both the possible benefits of, and the non ignorable consequences, of officially bringing this potential team into the light.” The UN Secretary General would open to the floor, some countries whispering and staring at the powered individuals before them.

“Some concerned and influential citizens, like American billionaire and our special ambassador on several occasions, Stanton Parrish, have lobbied strongly against them. His concerns, and likely some that you share, will be addressed.” The focus would them turn to said Mr. Parrish, who flashes a completely corporate smile towards the assembled heroes, his brown/grey hair and glasses conveying the look of an aged viper, however.

The UN Sec. Gen. continues. “Arthur Anderson, a fellow industrialist, has discussed at great length why he believes this team would specifically benefit from representing the UN and in turn, the civilized world.” His remarks would be cut off by a scoff from Russia, who apparently thanks to the notes provided by aides, see this as an attempt to have American capitalism dominate a diplomatic entity.

The sentiment is echoed by other countries, such as North Korea (who’s request for a superhuman submission was denied), a handful of Central American Nations, and a few within the Middle East.

These attitudes and sentiments would be clear as they read the room, with countries like France and England, the US, Sweden, Germany, and others voicing their own support or otherwise indifference on the team’s formation.

Clearing his throat, the sec. gen. would end his opening, and gesture for Arthur to take to the floor to speak. The tall and handsome man would carry a set of papers in his hand, his speech, but without a second thought, would toss them to the side as he reaches the podium.

“20 years ago, on this very day, a villain decided to take upon himself, to dare to test the will of nature and Titan City, and turn a catastrophe into a lasting tradgedy. I do not name him because to give him fame would mean he succeeded, and in my world, both as a vet, and a man in a world of heroes, evil never truly wins.” He emphasizes those last four words with pointing onto his podium.

“Those words, were what inspired this very organization, no? In the wake of global horror and warfare and strife, nations from all corners of the globe came together to put diplomacy and the self interests of the world first. Your mission, the ‘maintenance of international peace and security.” He stops for a moment, allowing them to take everything in.

“Yet for 20 years, the idea to bring a team together, a group to memorialize arguably some of the bravest heroes of an era sat on a desk because we couldn’t complete it. We allowed pettiness and rifts of culture and ideals to blind us from carrying through like the heroes we all strive to be, no matter our nation, or our creed.” He is louder now, more intense, as he reaches the crux of his speech.

“I’m a fourth generation veteran, my great grandad down to the man standing before you has seen war and suffering like you couldn’t believe. And yet, there has been one constant, one thing that lasts and that everyone in this room can believe: evil never truly wins. It can knock us down, batter us, blind us, and wound us. It can turn friends to enemies and enemies into monsters, but it can’t change what we know to be good and true.” He pauses for impact.

“We can’t fight every battle, we can’t win every conflict, and ladies and gentlemen this world grows more different and dangerous everyday. To know if we can live up to our mission, your mission: the maintenance of international peace and security, you must ask yourselves and your country.” He stops, and asks with intent.

“Will evil win?” With that, he steps off the podium, and fades into the crowd of dignitaries.

"Never!" he said, out loud.

"Never!" he said, out loud. Too loud. Standing. When did he stand?

Kahuna sat back down and looked apologetically at the delegates from the Mashall Islands, Micronesia, Tuvalu, and Kiribati, whom he represented collectively; on loan, so to speak, from the US. His mother was from Kiribati, so it wasn't too much of a stretch with his dual citizenship. He cleared his throat and gave the now-empty podium very serious consideration as the room waited for Arthur Anderson.

Sanjay had greeted each one

Sanjay had greeted each one of the heroes in turn while they were still in the garage and now sat quietly beside Rajesh Bhatt, the diplomat from India. He'd gotten to know Rajesh during a multitude of meetings and meals over the last six months. The older man was a stoic and learned individual whom Sanjay was glad to have as an adviser.

Sanjay found himself subconsciously leaning forward during Arthur's address and, like Kahuna, would've stood at the end if not for a swift poke in the ribs from Rajesh. Instead, he applauded politely while scanning the room to clock the reactions of the rest of the heroes.

The head of a blank-faced

The shape of a blank-faced helmet tilted, subtly, to one side.

The words were pretty, well-groomed, made up, and dressed in a finely-tailored suit of rhetoric. There was only one acceptable response, after all. Publicly denouncing the mission of the grand project would hardly be acceptable, not here, not today, and not at its own coming-out party.

Of course, Decade knew that not everyone in the room - or even the building - was deeply moved by the sentiment. For every high-minded motive expressed in Anderson's speech, there were other thoughts in the room. Ones of pragmatism... for there were optics to consider, in assembling such a group of heroes. There were matters of prestige and status at work. There were neofunctionist dreams of institution-building.

None were overtly sinister, but because of who and what they were, the masked superhuman called Decade couldn't help but reflect on the... more practical concerns that accompanied Anderson's message. Some delegates were all but shouting such thoughts, albeit in the privacy of their own heads.

Decade clapped, all the same, however. The hero in the French Army jacket even stood... about the same time as Kahuna and Monument, giving the appearance of joining them in their spontaneous display of solidarity.

Granted, Decade was a telepath, and therefore Decade could cheat. Any other person would have visibly risen to their feet after the Oceanic and United States representatives, quite clearly following their lead and only standing as a staged gesture, because the others were.

Mr. Tinker had sat quietly

Mr. Tinker had sat quietly and unobtrusively as everyone had filtered in. His lack of looking very super made him nearly invisible as the room filled up with various delegates and super powered bodyguards. As introduction speeches began and Mr. Anderson took the floor Tinker mostly watched those who would be on his soon to be created team. The votes were in, this was just a formality. Several of the supers he was to be paired with were very... boisterous with their replies to Anderson, either lap dogs or true blue idealists either way... a danger to anything requiring a subtle touch. The female supers seemed a tad more reserved in their replies Though he knew several had combat specialties above the males. In a land of superpowers looks were very deceiving. Tinker lightly smiled at that idea as it ran across his mind. Given his specialty deception was a way of life.

The Great Britain representative stood and clapped politely. Mr. Tinker didn't even twitch a muscle. His job wasn't bravado. His job was making sure these young upstarts didn't make a mess of everything by rampaging through foreign lands and getting put on the news too often. All the denied applicant countries needed was a few news articles about a super powered global gang beating up a 3rd world country and this whole experiment would be all over.

Tinker lightly tapped the table signaling his embassy representative to sit and be quiet. A short applause was enough.

Medjay seemed a bit more

Medjay seemed a bit more reserved than her male counterparts, matching Tinker’s assessment to an extent, content with watching the speech passively, nodding at times, before clapping politely but loudly enough to be heard, however, when she ceases and sits, so do her aides.

Medjay would take stock of the rest of the room, curious as to how they took the speech, and while not a telepath, feeling that with her background in analysis of things both living and dead, she had a decent read of the antechamber.

She was a polite and compassionate woman, and was indeed moved by the speech, but overexuberance would do no good here, nor would domination of the scene. That energy could be better applied for later.

Decade would be able to note that out of all of the thoughts and feelings in the room, the ones of one Stanton Parrish were the most...difficult to read. Despite being a rival and enemy of Arthur, the man seemed the most satisfied and happy with the speech, but they were lined with something else. Expectation maybe. However, without a word, Parrish and his entourage would leave the room, citing a business call with an important executive.

Twilight clapped along with the others, continuing until she could hear the applause dying down. Behind her polite smile, though, she wondered how long they would be allowed to do what was right before what was politically necessary got in the way. She resolved to do her best to face that problem squarely, when it was more than just a worry.

Several days had passed since

Several days had passed since the meeting in New York. While there was fierce debate, several threatened walkouts and heated exchanges, the pilot team was given official UN authorization.

Designated aides and heads of state were contacted and in turn contacted the aforementioned heroes, and a celebration gala has been planned and funded for by several donors, most notably a practically giddy Anderson himself.

Afforded a mid-rise office building in Eos Park in Aurora, the HQ of the team, now named the Duncan Building after James Duncan’s sacrifice, is being retrofitted by the best the Intiative’s funding can afford.

The gala, set to take place at the Anderson Manor in Old Bradford, is a supposedly private affair boasting a public auspice and grand allowance.

Dignitaries from all over have been invited to celebrate, including their aides and liaisons and the staff that helped make the initiative happen. Each hero of the proposed pilot program has had both a hotel stay and first class flight provided from their country of origin, with tonight being the night of the celebration.

Clad in a champagne colored off the shoulder gown with a slit offering a tasteful view of legs and skin, Safiya Mahmoud stepped out of the limousine with her country’s representatives holding a simple but elegant pearl white clutch and a polite smile.

Her entourage, the elder and seasoned diplomat Asim Rahal and younger assistant Hassan Seif bore matching black tie suits, with the pin Egpyt accross their chests marking their origin. While Asim kept to himself and was more focused on discerning the business and diplomatic specifics of the initiative from Anderson and other country’s head diplomats, Hassan was content to attend to any mundane tasks while enjoying a bit of American opulence, as well as several plates of salmon rilletes and lobster tails.

With catering provided in a surprise by Stanton Parrish (some at the party believing it to be a show of wealth), guests enjoy a fine selection of food pickled from all over the world, vegan and allergy abetting options included of course.

Settled in the main hall, Safiya would smile and make light conversation with donors and diplomats alike, before making her way to the reception area, and waiting for the rest of the team to arrive.

Kahuna had spent the last two

Kahuna had spent the last two days walking around Titan City. He had never been here before, but he'd heard all about it. His mouth was constantly agape at the powered people he saw flitting this way and that, all trying to make names for themselves.

Of course, he saw the obligatory tourist attractions like the phoenix statue and the hero memorial. But the highlight of his trip was the Orbit Room where he got to see one his personal idols, Captain Orbit himself, who personally greeted him and congratulated him on the UN authorization. Kahuna could only guess at how he knew so quickly, before it was made public, even. Word travels fast in certain circles.

The night of the Gala, Kahuna wore a bespoke tuxedo, paid for by the nation states he represented, but he made sure to put his cape over it. It wasn't just any costume cape, it was a sign of office for him, like a crown would be for a king. It took twelve years to harvest all the feathers for it, without harming any birds in the process he was always sure to add.

He was used to VIP gatherings put together by rich sponsors, so he knew the dance. He balanced a glass with always just a sip in it , and never put more food in his mouth than a couple of chews and a swallow wouldn't dispose of. And he always had someone else to talk with over the shoulder of whomever he was conversing with at the moment. The night was surely to slip past uneventfully.

With the way he stood and his

With the way he stood and his manner of dress Tinker nearly blended in with the help. He wore nothing denoting country except an air of old superiority, polite, but present. However his ability to navigate the crowd was like a fish swimming in a stream, natural and quick.

Easing in and out of conversations, shaking hands and sampling platters Tinker worked the room like a professional desk jockey. He kept the topic about the person he was talking to and their home countries, always leaving a fine impression behind but no actual information while gaining many little factoids about dignitary habits. All potentially useful in the future.

Tinker brushed passed the doorway and stopped a waiter from dumping a full tray drinks onto the South African emissaries wife. Tinker straightened the mans tie and gave him a subtle wink. Hopefully the poor lads boss hadn't seen the near catastrophic failure.

Tinkers usual briefcase looked a bit like an undersized 50 cal box strapped to his good leg. Despite his minor step hitch he never seemed to touch anything with the case. His poor attendant was having an awful time trying to stay near enough to him to make sure he didn't leave but far enough away where she was not being a bother. Tinker was in fact allowing the young lady to stress herself out. He could settle into a conversation and stop patrolling the entire gala but an old man needed his moments of humor.

Monument was used to

Monument was used to gatherings like these. Being the face of Project Patriot, the USA's superhero outreach program, warranted his appearance at many government events.

He moves around like he owns the place, confidence resonates from him, he politely greets foreign diplomats in their native languages having studied a few phrases in the time leading up to this event, he shakes hands, he smiles, he's perfect. Perhaps a little too perfect.

He wears an earpiece, keeping him in touch with security. There's a lot riding on this event and a lot of important people. If something, anything, goes wrong he hopes to be one of the first to know.

Twilight had found the gown

Twilight had found the gown waiting in her room at the hotel, and other than looking like the dress Willie Scott wore at Club Obi-Wan back in 1935, she had no complaints. The choice of style could have been any of the mostly elder, mostly male, political leaders, but the modifications showed the hand of Sun Wukong (also male, and extremely elder, though that didn't show.) A slit down each side of the skirt would be held together with a simple spell until she needed to move freely. And there were several concealed pockets for the tools of the sorceress' trade. And she was fairly certain that the fabric was the new arachnoweave.

So she was quite confident that her ability to cope with the unforeseen was unimpaired, and as she walked into the ballroom she attracted the attention of many pairs of eyes. Mr Sun (who claimed, perhaps a bit too firmly, to be unrelated to Sun Wukong) stayed behind her and did not allow the view to distract him from his duties.

Holding a glass of impossibly expensive champagne she can’t think to name or place, Safiya wafts from conversation to conversation, staying just long enough to make a good impression but not too long as to overstay a social welcome.

Taking a moment to mentally note the other heroes in attendance, Safiya would consider starting a conversation, but would get ambushed by a pair of dignitaries inquiring about her thesis on the roles of Nubian in Ancient Egyptian and how they projected modern feminist ideas.

Safe to say, she was bored.

Sanjay had quietly entered

Sanjay had quietly entered the gala a few minutes after the rest. Flanking him were Rajesh with his wife Farha on one side and Zoya Dhawan, the junior diplomat, on the other. The Indian hero had opted for a traditional tuxedo with a dark crimson jacket. His walk was calm and self-assured as his gaze traveled across the room. As a drink server approached and asked what they'd like, Sanjay held a hand up and requested water with lime instead.

Once he had a drink in hand, he nodded to the diplomats and then began circulating. Though he was not seasoned in the attendance of events like some of his fellow heroes, he was polite, insightful, and witty.

About halfway around the room, he spotted Safiya and immediately picked up on her body language and facial cues. She was catastrophically bored. Smiling to himself, he set his drink down on the nearest table and headed her way.

Once he drew even with her, he held a hand out and tilted his head towards the dance floor in the center of the room. "May I have this dance, Dr. Mahmoud?"

Blinking herself out of her

Blinking herself out of her reverie, the Egyptian hero would look the man up and down in surprise, and after catching a attempt at a subtle thumbs up from a rather embarrassing Hassan, she offers a hand to him to step into the dance floor.

Once there, and a traditional waltz begins, the whispers once they begin.

“To what do I owe this rescue?” She teases, before leveling after a moment. “I hate these kind of things-I prefer dirt and shorts and the sun and doing something. Not...sitting around and being propped up like a princess.” She emphasizes the last part by gesturing to her gown as they dance, the dress itself having caught several eyes and compliments this evening.

She pauses for a moment, and seems to mentally face palm. “I’m acting like a complete ass right now, and making one of Egypt right now, huh?” She chuckles and sighs.

But nonetheless, still dances, showing grace in her movements despite her own admittance at the dislike of frilly functions.

Sanjay smiled. "Merely coming to the assistance of a fellow teammate. Saving her from the clutches of that foulest of villains... boredom."

He held Safiya with the proper amount of separation for acquaintances and led her across the dance floor, his movements graceful and seemingly practiced. This showed that he either had significant experience with dancing or a supreme amount of body awareness and control. Or both

Sanjay smiled as she talked passionately about where she would rather be, then frowned slightly as she chastised herself. "I wouldn't say that. You are merely stating the truth about your likes and dislikes. I know how you feel, though. I prefer physically demanding activities or charitable work to... this. But if we're going to truly become a force of good and inspiration in the world, then we will have to endure the hopefully occasional mundanity of a gala or reception."

As the song came to an end, Sanjay led Safiya towards the edge of the dance floor, making sure to avoid the South Africans. As he released her hand, they found themselves only a short distance from both Kahuna and Mr. Tinker, though in different directions.

"Well, shall we see about getting to know our teammates better?" he asked, gesturing towards one and then the other.

Safiya would smile at his words, nodding, and despite her general feelings about frilly events, seemed to enjoy the dance.

Taking a moment, she would nod as she spies both men in their respective tuxes and makes note of who they are currently conversing with, before gesturing for Sanjay to follow as she approaches Kahuna first.

“Room for two more social stragglers?” She opens with a joke, before adding after a few beats.

“Sensing anything? Any trouble or bad vibes? I have nothing..it’s not something I’m used to.” She admits.

"Look at me," Kahuna says

"Look at me," Kahuna says with a wide grin, "I have room for four more stragglers at least." And he laughs good naturedly.

Then under his breath he says to Safiya, really, you're blank? Hold a sec, and follow my lead.

Then loudly enough to be heard above the nearby crowd, with a bit of mock protest, Kahuna declares, "oh, if I must. I must. How could I turn down such a charmer."

"Ladies and gentlemen, I've been asked to give a demonstration of some ancient island chants. And I think this couldn't be a better occasion. Let me sing a chant about the rising of the sun over the ocean and the blessing of the new day. What could be more fitting for us at this time?"

Then Kahuna walks over to the band, chanting low at first and rising. He commandeers the bongos to add some penetration to the chant he really intends to perform. The crowd can almost feel the sun peering above the horizon. But while Kahuna is chanting the blessing he adds some phrasing and melody of query, investigation and curiosity. Like fishing birds jumping over the surf at daybreak, the chant finds its way meandering out and out to see what prey might be there to pounce upon, thinking falsely that it is safe and unseen under the waves.

Despite the intense level of concentration, he somehow manages to paste a peaceful and pleasant grin on his face. And he is humored to see it mirrored in so many others.

Safiya plays the part of a

Safiya plays the part of a bashful but pleased patron, looking surprised that he would begin to sing so loudly and then looking to Sanjay for a moment, indicating him to watch her back for a moment, as she sneaks into an adjacent hallway.

Once there, she takes a moment to center herself and allow the Eye of Horus to manifest, boosting her senses and ability to detect danger. Remaining still for a moment, she would suddenly open her eyes, now glowing gold orbs, as she turns to Sanjay in a panic, rushing back to the main hall with his hand in hers and trying to signal the other team members to gather around.

Kahuna would detect the presence of a targeting evil not at the party, but summoned and racing toward it, its form like a viper cutting through water or grass, a predator of metal.

“Something is coming, it’s fast and made of metal, not a missile but it is moving too fast to be a person in armor-” She would be cut off by the sound of crashing rubble and glass as the a portion of the east facing wall of the manor crumples inside the building.

Standing amongst the wreckage is what can only be described as a robotic behemoth made of metal, a cyclopean looking creation with a body of polished dark chassis, with a single red eye glowing from its forehead.

Standing at roughly 10’ feet tall, the robot or possibly android’s form seems practically seemless, only hint of separate parts seems to be the inlay like design of the creature’s plating.

Raising its head, it scans over a screaming and alarmed crowd in a eerie crimson light, it’s projected voice sounding as if it came from the base of its metal chest, deep and resonating and unmistakably sinister.

“Scanning...scanning...9 powered threats detected. 57 civilians accounted for. Recommendation: Total Termination.” And with that, the red single eye of the android glows and hums, before a powerful beam of searing scarlet force is sent to Kahuna.

Though he's not the most

Though he's not the most dexterous of people, Kahuna attempts to dodge the beam, because he just doesn't have time to protect himself any other way. Barring any other interference, he's going to be seriously injured at the very least.

He frantically scans through his repertoire of chants and thinks he might have something that could help. But he has to survive first.

While she was originally just

While she was originally just enjoying her time at the gala and taking in the many faces present there, Stephanie was enjoying the singing of Sanjay and getting to experience just a taste of another person's culture. Stephanie eventually shifted into high alert upon Safiya's sudden panic and joined the rest of the team in the main hall.

"What go on? Is everything be okay?"

Once the robot/android would appear, Stephanie's eyes would widen and immediately look to the others with a shocked expression. Clearly she hadn't been nor seen anything quite like this, until now.

Atlas Initiative, this is

Atlas Initiative, this is Decade - representative, French Republic. Apologies for not requesting prior permission for contact. Emergency. Surface connection only, over.

It sounded like a voice, except it wasn't, not strictly, and there was the distinct sense that it hadn't actually come from a throat. It sounded like Decade's speaking voice, with something of the quality that came from that featureless helmet, but it also seemed to have layers to it. It was also speaking much faster than humanly possible, but nonetheless it came across as comprehensible. The essence of words, rather than words themselves.

Speak or think in the direction of teammates, if needed. I will relay, even if out of hearing. Treat it as radio. Nine contacts active. Additional connections available if necessary. Will disconnect you on request, but recommend connection for duration of crisis.

Near the formerly open, but now presumably quite closed bar, the French representative crouched behind the counter alongside a panic-stricken bartender, gently pushing him down. The wooden and metal bar was a poor piece of cover, as it wouldn't withstand conventional small arms, let alone whatever technological wizardry was present in that war machine. But it broke line of sight, and that had to do, for now.

"Stay down," Decade said, out loud, to the bartender, and to one of the servers nearby. "When it looks clear, move to a more secure position. Tell everyone to move. If it fires near to you - stay low, run, drop, roll, don't stay in the open for more than a few seconds."

The bartender looked back, blankly. "What---"

Decade was dressed in a black suit of unconventional cut, a jacket over trousers, the coat buttoned up to the neck and collar. Swiftly, the French vigilante unfastened the coat, revealing low-profile body armour beneath - and pulled out what appeared to be a small automatic carbine.

The folding stock clicked into place, and came up nestled against Decade's shoulder, upper body and arm.

Who is in command? Awaiting orders.

Decade moved, standing up and moving from the bar, squeezing the trigger once, twice. The conventional rounds likely had little effect on the giant robot, seeing as how it was ten feet of metal, but doing damage wasn't the point. Distraction, crossfire, and suppression - that was the point.

Even as the French telepath fired, the face behind the blank helmet narrowed. Decade's powers weren't biological in nature, but conceptual. If the robot was intelligent or sapient enough to think in some coherent fashion, then perhaps there was something that could be gleaned from the mechanical mind, and passed to the team. But if it was remotely operated, or if it was well below the invisible threshold that separated something with spirit from something not, then that was a different matter...

Sanjay had nodded and

Sanjay had nodded and followed Safiya when she asked him to wach her back. As she centered herself in the hall, he stood with his back to the wall and scanned its length, his gaze going from looking just over her head to turned away from her.

Just after the second scan, Sanjay heard a soft noise of alarm and his head whipped around to see her staggered as if she'd been gut-punched. Before he could reach her, Safiya straightened and looked at him, her golden gaze seeming to peer right through his body. He was struck for just a moment, long enough for her hand to take his as she rushed back towards the ballroom.

Sanjay followed Safiya and as she began to signal to the other heroes, he doffed his jacket and bowtie. Just as he finished, the intruder arrived with a resounding crash, spoke, and began its attack.

By that point, Sanjay was already moving. He ran between some tables and threw himself into a skid across the dance floor. As he came to a halt, he poured his will through the floor and substructure, into the earth beneath. He whirled in a quick circle, dragging a foot, then fell to his knees and punched the floor. A ring of earth erupted from the ground and shot upwards to enclose the robot, cutting off its beam and hopefully blocking any subsequent shots until it was free.

The robot was monetarily

The robot was monetarily distracted by the gunfire, turning to gaze at Decade for a moment, suddenly projecting a scanning beam at the hero, and speaking in a odd tone.

“Scanning....assimilating....assimilating.” It straightens up, and would suddenly unleash a attempt at a manufactured psychic blast back at Decade, a crude imitation but possibly effective if it He is unable to erect a mid level psychic defense.

Cut off from any further action by the encasing by Sanjay, it would respond with a mechanical noise of irritation, and take several moments to flex its form out of the encasing, peering down to the Indian hero.

“Flea!” It would be unclear if he means to flee, or if he is calling him a insect beneath notice, possibly both.

His attempt at a eye beam blast is cut off by a fiery arrow searing into its head, staggering it. Rolling forward and still clad in her gown, Safiya would take a moment to kick the android in the chest as it’s distracted, and while not strong as say Monument, the force was enough to buckle the robot and shatter the remaining glass in the room.

Taking a moment to spin back and send more arrows that blaze like fire, she would attempt to speak in the direction of Decade and the team.

*First priority is civilians, make sure we keep him occupied and focused on us. That laser is our target, we need to either cover it or take it out. Lastly, I think it’s trying to-” She would be cut off as the robot scans her, and wordlessly creates a simple looking but red tracer light bearing wrist crossbow, and fire now at the Egyptian heroine, who is meeting the andriod’s arrows with her own.

The andriod’s voice booms.

“Conclusion, fools: Apex is copying you.”

"That was a nice tux,"

"That was a nice tux," Kahuna whimpers as he assesses his damage. The eye beam was cut off prematurely by the earth wall erected by the Hand of Dhara. Sanjay, he tells himself. Not a time to be a fanboy. The beam grazed his thigh, too, but it was nothing at all. When he looks down he sees under the charred tuxedo that his skin looks like steel. Wasn't that just the best!, he mentally squees . It still hurt but the damage was minimal.

He sends out a quick "Mahalo" to Twilight and Sanjay over this weird mental link they've got.

But when he hears the android's response to [s]Medjay[/s]Safiya, he knows what he needs to do.

"So you're copying us, huh?" Kahuna stands back up, tuxedo smoking. "Then copy this!" Kahuna directs a power draining chant at the android that was originally taught to the islanders by Nāmaka, the sister of Pele, to calm Pele when she would get a bit too volcanic. Then he weaves in a chant taught by Papa the goddess of nature and distributes the draining power into his teammates.
First, he powers up Safiya to help her trade arrows with the thing. He expands the distribution to include Monument as he pummels the construct, then Sanjay, Tinker, Decade, Twilight, Impetus, and Dr. Thunder. He can barely reach them, but he can still move, albeit painfully, and will continue to keep everyone in range.

"You don't need to scan me, you unnatural thing. I'll tell you what I'm doing. I'm draining your power and I'm giving it to my friends. Even if you copy me, you lose, because, you see, you don't have any friends."

The power drain and the power boost aren't much, but they're continuous. The teammates should feel like everything takes less effort, and the android should feel like its power source just got a lot less efficient, simultaneous actions just got more difficult for it, if not impossible, depending on the action.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

"Guh," said Decade.

"Guh," said Decade.

It wasn't a particularly coherent complaint. Coherency was a little difficult at the moment, in the midst of a suddenly pounding headache. Decade grimaced beneath the helmet, a tiny bit of vomit worming its way up.

The French hero's carbine was hanging loosely from their body, now, not held by the pistol grip or at all supported - it was only the attached strap that kept it pinned to Decade. The vigilante was on the ground, one knee pressed to the floor of the ballroom, along with the palms of both hands.

Medjay, Kahuna, Twilight, Hand of Dhara, this is Decade. Enemy adaptation includes psionic and/or astral active defenses. May include countermeasures to your mystic or paranormal abilities. Advise caution. Decade suffering feedback in response to probe. Recovering. Further intrusion attempt not advised, but will attempt if requested.

It was easy to sound composed at the speed of thought, even if your physical sensations were screaming bloody murder.

It was also foolish, Decade knew, to stay still. So Decade didn't, getting a secure grip on the loosely-hanging gun, and half-stumbling, half-rolling, to a new bit of impromptu cover. Hiding behind an ornate support pillar, Decade breathed heavily, sucking in gulps of air through the filter elements of the helmet.

Then Decade's helmeted head tilted, gently, to one side, as the uncomfortable sensations suddenly... cleared up. Curious.

The solid surface of the pillar was in the way, but the French hero turned to look in the direction of Kahuna. Since any pain was a reaction to being counterpunched in the astral body, not the physical body, by the robot, the surge in energy meant Decade felt better, all at once. But, knowing that the machine somehow specialised in duplicating and counteracting abilities, who knew how long Kahuna's spell would work?

Couldn't waste the opportunity, then.

Atlas Initiative. Decade. Relaying own senses. Sensation you're feeling is approximation of psionic radar, sonar. Tactical map. Current locations of all sapient minds, local area, real time update. Enemy marked. Team marked. Noncombatants - civilians, VIPs, gala staff - marked. Calibrated to be instinctive. If disruptive, distracting, will terminate.

The new extra sense would, potentially, manifest differently for each member of the team... just an undefinable feeling of where each and every person in the building was, for example. Or coloured outlines, with silhouettes visible through walls. Something different, but intended to slide seamlessly into how each affected hero already perceived the world or processed data. Accompanied by a clearly signposted mental 'off' switch.

Left unspoken was the fact... Decade felt that marking the location of the ten-foot-tall enemy robot was fairly pointless. But there was the chance that someone might wish to take a shot from outside the ballroom.

And of course, the main point? Was to let everyone know where the civilians were.

As Decade transmitted, the French hero took note of just how many noncombatant signals there still were in the vicinity, and scowled. The 'map' trick provided useful information, but sometimes ignorance was bliss.

Nothing for it, though. Work to be done.

Monument, Decade acknowledges. Evacuating noncombatants, wilco.

Decade held an arm up, waving at the bartender and serving staff nearby. Still nearby. "Go, go!"

Twilight grabbed her share of

Twilight grabbed her share of the power Kahuna was sending out, and with a flick of a fan used it to boost a spell she sent to Mr. Sun and the others who were attempting to clear the area. Their voices grew stronger, more confident, more reassuring. Then she cast another spell, placing a one meter sphere of darkness around the head of APEX. "My thanks for the power and the information!" She spoke aloud as she moved towards an empty stretch of wall, hoping to draw any fire the android might try.

“Simple meat bags!” APEX

“Simple meat bags!” APEX would bellow, and would be cut off by Monument trading blows with it. Staggered by first the surprise and Kahuna’s draining spell, the android would nonetheless seem to attempt to compensate by directing power into active combat and avoiding draining protocols.

Monument would note the android seems to be matching his strength, and it would begin a defensive combo interspersed with force based eye beam blasts. The American hero would however find himself aided by Medjay, who with a yell, kip up and send the android briefly to the floor.

Rolling back, the heroine would instantly notice her aim has improved, her arrows are flying faster, and her Eye of Horus is activated. Looking to Monument as the android attempts to stand up, she would attempt to think in his direction: Strike low, I’ll aim high.

Helping coordinate the evacuation was Arthur Anderson, who after ushering the last of the kitchen staff and servers out the door, took a smg from a security guard, and flanked behind Decade and Twilight, speaking with conviction.

“Tell is where you need us-I’m not letting this supped up refrigerator destroy my home or hurt my guests.”

They would trade fire with the back of the android, who responds by twisting his torso around momentarily to fire an eye beam in their direction to scatter them.

Having recovered and compensated from the drain but suffering some visible damage, APEX would then move to simply release a stunning burst at Medjay and Monument, hoping to catch them off guard and send them off their feet.

It then turns to the ranged combatants, stalking forward, security guard and their enhanced kinetic nightsticks buffeting off of its frame, as it swats them aside and fires two separate beams at Twilight and Decade’s approximate positions.

Medjay performs a handspring to save herself from the majority of the blast, shaking off the worst of the effects thanks to not being there when the blast went off.

Falling back to a more suitable range for archery, she begins firing more powerful searing arrows, capitalizing on the spots Monument seems to punch or strike, slowly wearing down the andriod’s chassis.

The android was too mobile to affect prolong with a small volume of darkness, and a larger volume would interfere with her teammates. But while sending out accuracy buffs and considering ways to hurt it directly, she had to dodge one of the beams herself. Coming up out of a roll next to a table covered with buckets of ice for chilling the wine gave her an idea. She sent it through Decade's mindlink. *Hand! Can you help me freeze him?* Bucketfulls of partially melt ice went through the air toward the android, followed by a chilling spell.

----Most of this would be

----Most of this would be unnoticed----

The door Tinker had brushed earlier sprung open with a small pop blowing off its hinges out into the hall. Tinker hadn't changed his gait at all, not even seeming to really acknowledge the robotic menace He walked straight at the nearest wall. Tapping his case in a quick series the young waiter he had helped earlier got a glazed look to his eyes.

In a strange moment of bravado the waiter scooped up the nearest dignitary next to him and dragged another too stunned to move towards the blown door entry. He had a near super human effort about him that he would feel for weeks later. Many took a queue from the "brave" lad and rushed to the now widely available exit.

If the robot has some sort of active scanner it wouldn't pick up a power for the next event.-------------

Tinker evaporated into a wall without looking back at a single teammate.

---This would appear as Tinker simply leaving without bothering to help anyone ---------

The android would almost tilt

The android would almost tilt it’s head as Tinker seems to vanish, perplexed, before simply firing a eye beam at the wall, and resuming its combat against the other team members.

The cold spell that Twilight casts would begin to root the android in place, and Medjay would be careful to tone down the effects of her arrows, so the ice can cover as much of it as possible.

Falling back to avoid an eye beam, Safiya and soon the rest of the team would note that the combination of their powers interacting together seems to confuse the robot, and slow down its assimilation, leaving him vulnerable at key moments during the fight.

*Target him with combined attacks, he can only adapt to one combatant at a time!* She mentally states, whilst giving Monument covering fire.

Sanjay felt Decade's presence in his mind and fought it for a second until he realized what it was. His perceptions expanded and then the psionic radar kicked in. But the new sense felt absolutely natural, like he'd had it all his life. Almost immediately after, he felt the energy boost from Kahuna. Acknowledged, Decade. Thank you. He looked back to APEX just in time for Twilight's message about freezing it. Acknowledged, Twilight. Attempting to immobilize.

Sanjay slid and tapped his right foot, followed by his left, then raised both arms with palms up and fingers curled. Two stalagmites erupted out of the ground and speared upwards, attempting to enclose the android's arms.

Kahuna nods to Decade in

Kahuna nods to Decade in acknowledgement of the thanks and stalks the ballroom keeping the invader in his field of vision.

He continues to drain as much power from the robot as he can while feeding it to his teammates. But it must have done something to counter him, because the power available to drain had become just a trickle. So he uses his own power to supplement the chant and make up the difference. He'd like to see the android copy that! He might have to think of another strategy soon, but for now the priority is to keep his allies from flagging and not to give the android anything to copy that will help it instead. So he pours more power into Twilight for her freeze attack, into Sanjay and Monument, and Safiya. He gives Decade more power to stand up to whatever the thing is doing to him to make him grimace like he is, and Dr. Thunder more power for his flashy lightning punches. He sends a mental chirp to Stephanie (or should he call her Impetus? whatever. Focus, Kahuna!) that there is power available if she needs it too. Windrunner is just out of reach as she appears to be trying to stay at range. Kahuna might be able to include her as he keeps stalking around the quickly deteriorating room, but for now she's not getting the benefit.

The teammates will realize that not only are their actions a little bit easier to perform, but their natural healing and recovery abilities are kicking in at an accelerated pace. This chant and this level of power transfer is nothing dramatic, and cuts won't seal up as they watch or anything like that, but the stress and strain that the fighting is placing on their bodies seems nonexistent. They feel like they could fight like this forever.

In fact, it looks like it's making some of them a bit giddy, but that could just be Kahuna's imagination.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

The one form in the room that

The one form in the room that is not giddy however, seems to be the APEX android. Frustrated at the constant drain of his systems, and the error in his maker’s programming that only lets him adapt to one combatant at a time, the android has begun to weigh it’s options.

It will not survive this conflict. This form or mark of him, anyway, but he has served his purpose. With a dark, brass sounding chuckle, and a quick gaze around the room, the robot taunts.

“You don’t know what you’ve awakened, meat bags. You have courted a Titan, and what is a diety, without a capability, to destroy!”

Suddenly, the android would spin in a rapid 360, both his single eye laser and palm lasers now activating in spinning in a cascade of heat and force.

Columns are leveled, furniture is set ablaze, windows are blown out of their frames, and heroes will be surely injured if they do not dodge or somehow mitigate the damage.

Rolling behind a pillar with seconds to spare, Medjay looks back just in time to see most civilians and security staff hit the floor, save for Anderson, who pushed a Russian delegate out of the way of an energy blast to take it himself, sending him flying into and through brick and wood into the street.

Twilight opened her fans, and

Twilight opened her fans, and moved them in a pattern that caused them to send a dark cloud towards the android. They weren't enough to stop the laser blasts, but the water droplets refracted a lot of energy and absorbed more before they flashed into steam, so objects and people in the shadow of that cloud had at least some protection. But it wasn't enough to protect Twilight entirely, as one of the beams burnt through the side of her dress and into her stomach. She bit back a scream, and continued weaving her spell...

Sanjay bit back a curse as

Sanjay bit back a curse as the robot began its final attack. In the split second before the lasers erupted, he pulled his arms in towards his body and drew them together. The questing stalgmites crumbled as a thick wall of rock rose up in front of him, shielding roughly a tenth of the room from the lasers.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the heroic actions of Anderson and yelled as the billionaire was sent flying. Kahuna, help Anderson!

He then turned his full attention back to the aggressor and spoke in Punjab, his tone full of vehemence and rage. "This ends now, monster!"

While maintaining the wall, he scraped his right foot back slowly, then raised his knee. A thick spear of granite began forming between him and the wall. At its tip was a wide bladed point of purest carbon, aimed directly at the robot's neck joint. Preparing a hopeful killing blow, but I need a distraction once it finishes spinning.

Kahuna had been preparing for

Kahuna had been preparing for something like another ray or something hazardous. But he had no preparation for this indescriminate destruction. With a powerful utterance, he calls forth the spirit of Kanaloa, the Polynesian God of the Sea, who manifests a tiki statue carved from coral and glass between Kahuna and the android. It provides enough of a shield to keep Kahuna's big body protected. But it won't last long.

Then his attention is ripped away as he hears Sanjay call his name. He turns his head just in time to see Anderson flung through the brick wall. No human could survive that! But his feet are moving before he even thinks about it. So forceful were the words of the Hand of Dhara.

As he runs to the breach, he is already preparing another powerful utterance. "Kane, God of Light and Life" and with that another tiki manifests at the breach in the wall. This tiki is covered in glowing moss and lichen and its eyes radiate a golden light. All those near it will be healed. Hopefully. The android better not copy this or it will be a long day.

Completely spent, Kahuna staggers closer to examine the only body outside the breach. That of Anderson. Is he still alive? As Kahuna leans over to check, he keeps going and falls face first into the rubble next to Anderson. This battle just took too much out of him. His last thoughts as he drifted to black were that he hoped the blessing of Kane will be enough to keep Anderson alive.

Edit: The four Gods Kahuna can call as Tikis:

Anderson would lie in a

Anderson would lie in a crumpled heap amongst glass and stone, his breathing shallow and hoarse even from a distance, as deep burn in his chest was paired with debris and rebar in his back.

He was a dead man walking now, he’s been in enough scrapes to be close, but this feels different, a different kind of hurt, final. That tiki thing was the only thing keeping him breathing, but he can’t maintain it forever, and when it goes, so will he.

Time to make his last moments count.

Coughing up a trickle of blood, Anderson would nonetheless attempt to lift his sidearm and fire 9mm rounds into the chassis of the android, the combination of the bullets and Monument’s diversión of the lasers upwards, Twilight’s spell, and the conjured tiki generating an error in his processing.

“Overstimulation...power draining core depleted. Suggested tactic: kamikaze protocol.”

Medjay’s eyes would widen, as she would make a move to fire an arrow and finally, thanks to persistence and the whittling down of his defenses and his power draining capabilities, manages to melt through his chest, only to expose a mass of reinforced wires, but no power core.

Drawing back her bow, Medjay would freeze, unsure of what to do, as the android begins to glow in a sinister crimson light and charge up.

Decade would sense though, a prickle in the mental link, as Anderson Clinton’s to life, weakly thinking, his rounds spent.

“The head, the power core is in his head!”

With that information shared across the link, Medjay would charge an arrow so full of fire it would light up the entire battleground, drawing her bow back, and waiting for her teammates to prepare their attacks before firing.

It’s time to finish this.

Twilight changed the pattern

Twilight changed the pattern the fans wove, and the dark clouds, already tattered by the lasers, faded completely. In their place was a beam of light, not quite a laser but similar in many respects. The beam actually narrowed to a few centimeters across where it hit the android in the neck, with enough energy to do significant damage to ordinary humans, but its main purpose wasn't the damage, but rather to draw fire. Anyone aiming at that spot of light would have improved accuracy, and anyone just trying to hit the android would be more likely to hit it there. If the power plant was in the head, then it was time to follow the advice of the Queen of Hearts. "Off with his head!"

Sanjay could feel it through

Sanjay could feel it through the telepathic link... Anderson was dying. As Kahuna succumbed to his exhaustion, the Hand of Dhara focused intently on the Initiative's robotic enemy. He could feel his attention drawn to the light beam Twilight was creating and subconsciously, Sanjay slightly altered the trajectory of his rock spear to hit its focus point.

As APEX's head spun back and forth, trying madly to focus on the multiple attackers, it took it's gaze off of Sanjay. He smiled, then flung his arms wide, tearing a crack straight down the middle of the earthen wall and pushing the two halves aside. As he did this, he leaned forward and stamped with his raised foot, bouncing the spear out of its cradle and into the air. His hands came around and shot forward, rock surrounding them to create a hammer like a pistol, which impacted the butt of the spear with enough force to create a shockwave that blew over nearby tables and chairs.

The stone projectile flew straight and true, the wide-bladed tip tearing through APEX's neck joint and catapulting the head into the air. Sanjay practically yelled through the telepathic link, Medjay, burn a hole in the roof! Monument, get it sub-orbital!

Not needing to be told this

Not needing to be told this twice, Mrdjay released her arrow not at the android but at the roof, her divine missile tearing through layers of rock and wood and stone like a tank projectile, the explosion opening a rift more than large enough for Monument’s feat.

*Monument, get that thing airborne now!* She would mentally shout, knowing that while she’d be strong enough to send it skyward, she wouldn’t get it far enough from the city line before it detonated.

Mr. Tinker was just about to

Mr. Tinker was just about to sip the broth to the soup. It smelled delicious. The door had a quick rapping on it. "Oh is it over already? I just sat down."
Mrs. Copperswatch, the secretary from before entered quickly. She had worked a few times with Tinker, if he replied it was as good as permission to enter.
"Sir, the tracker you placed in Anderson last week went off. You said to get you if it went off."

Tinker put his bowl down. In his haste to stand up he nearly kicked over his briefcase. "Call the Hospital, tell them I will be bringing in a highly important person. If I am not there within the next two minutes most likely I failed to arrive."

With that Tinker would appear to slide through the floor the same way he had slid through the wall earlier.
He would reappear dropping out of the ceiling directly next to Anderson and the large Islander.

Looking at the Islander as he drops Tinker doesn't bother with any niceties. "Choose, go with Anderson or stay with them." He points at the fighting supers.

The head and power core detonated just as Monument reaches the skyline, a scarlet explosion lighting up the night sky, blowing out windows and rocking cars, and exploding with enough force to probably send the American hero back to earth if he hasn’t prepared himself.

Kahuna drools a bit. He is completely oblivious to Tinker as the Brit stands over him. His lips are forced into a pucker as his cheek is pancaked onto a brick. It will take a few moments more for his stamina to return, so he sleeps.

When Kahuna wakes a few minutes later, he does so in a panic. His first thoughts are to check on Anderson and make sure the Kane tiki is still up. He is also painfully aware that he probably let the whole team down by passing out at such a critical moment. He must keep a closer eye on his own power levels and how much of it he offers to the team.

Damn that android for countering his first power drain chant.

They probably won't even want him on the team any more. He may as well go pack his bags.

"Useless"

"Useless"
That would be the last thing Kahuna might hear as Anderson and Tinker slipped through the floor to be teleported to the nearby Hospital.

As they appeared in the medical facility Tinker would read off Andersons vitals and then deftly step out of the way as the specialist medical crew rushed in. Tinker noted that Copperswatch had made sure to contact several medical supers who were now gowned and getting to work. He would have to jot that down in his logs of her. She should be put in for a commendation, it was excellent thinking.

Tinker walked out of the Emergency Room. Andersons fate was up to the medical personnel.

Sanjay slumped, hands on his knees, as he heard the distant explosion and saw it blooming through the hole in the roof. Kahuna's energy transfer had helped, but that had been a difficult fight nonetheless.

Kahuna! Anderson! He suddenly thought to himself. He bolted for the hole in the wall, sparing a second to lay eyes on Medjay and the others before vaulting off a small upthrust to clear the edges of the breach. He landed outside and almost immediately found Kahuna, who was slowly getting to his feet. Sanjay moved in and stooped to help his obviously exhausted teammate, giving him a shoulder to put an arm around. Once up, he helped the big man to move over and sit on a nearby low retaining wall. He then looked around, but there was no sign of Anderson.

"Where is he?" Sanjay inquired, turning back to the Polynesian hero.

"I have no clue," said Kahuna.
"He was right here a second ago. Sorry, I ... sorry"

He left the Kane tiki in place thrumming its aura of light and life. People gathered around it and felt an itching sensation as their bumps bruises and other injuries repaired themselves. It was a natural byproduct of accelerated healing and a few couldn't help but scratch at what was left of their wounds.

"I can stand. Thank you, Sanjay."

Rushed to the OR and barely

Rushed to the OR and barely clinging on to life, Anderson was taken apart on the table and after the trauma team did all they could, left him sedated in a now monitored hospital room in one of the finest medical facilities in Titan City.

Back at the Anderson Manor however, civilians were being patched up, burns and cuts tended to, dignitaries receiving angry calls from heads of state, to some diplomats tearfully talking to their family confirming their survival and booking the quickest flight back to their respective home.

Medjay walked over with a cuts from glass and bruises, but denies any attempt for medical treatment until all the civilians are tended to first, having to resist the urge to swat them away to rush and check over Kahuna.

Walking over just as he spoke, she would respond.

“We did, but at potentially a heavy cost. Once we are done here, we need to check on Mr. Anderson...he took a heavy hit, and saved the Russian diplomat. I do think it may be at the cost of his life.” She looks down, before shifting to look over the team.

“I cannot speak for Anderson, or who is supposed to be leading this team, but I can say I was glad to fight by your side, and have competent allies to work with. If we are to truly be a team, I would gladly join.”

Sanjay, being only lightly

Sanjay, being only lightly injured, busied himself patching the holes in Anderson Manor. This particular use of his abilities took finesse and so he was taking it slowly, giving him time to think over the past few days. From arriving in America and doing a bit of sightseeing, to meeting his new allies, to the fight with APEX, and finally to learning of Anderson's location and current status.

It was frustrating to not be able to help him in anyway. The surgeons were still busy trying to save his life and here at the Manor, the Initiative could be more helpful than waiting at the hospital. As he worked, there was a sudden CRACK, followed by a sharp stinging sensation near the crown of his head. He felt a warm sensation and swiped at it. His hand came away bloody and he shook his head, then looked around. In his distracted state, he'd overcompensated and put too much pressure on a section of the wall, causing several bricks to shatter and blow out like shrapnel. He quickly fixed his mistake, then walked back over to the emergency area and sat down, holding his bleeding head.

Safiya nods and smiles back, and would be just about to reply before a text alert causes her clutch to vibrate, around the room, several officials begin to grab their phone, and stare in shock, as Safiya reveals the news that was texted to them just seconds ago.

Safiya would utter a similar prayer of sorts in Egyptian Arabic, before raising her head and turning to the heroes still present, as she looks over the pieces of the robot.

“This android stated it was a mark 1, or the first iteration with its present technology and and armament...we need to gather the pieces and keep them seperate. No recovery of the pieces, no way for their creator to improve upon their design...in theory.” She looks to Twilight and the others.

“Ideas? I do not wish to speak for the entire group. I also want to know just how this thing was able to copy our abilities, so a sort of autopsy might be useful. And lastly, we need to determine where or who made this.”

Several days had passed since

Several days had passed since what is now known as the Anderson Manor incident, with despite the large amount of civilians present, the recently amassed Atlas Initiative was able to repel the APEX android, but at a heavy cost.

Honoring Arthur Anderson’s sacrifice, in a show of good will, Russia has seen fit to end its protest of the initiative and has begun scouting for a potential candidate for the team. The office HQ of the team is nearly complete, with a rotating staff of communications experts, security agents, and diplomatic advisors, the bill partially picked up by one Stanton Parrish to honor his dear friend’s sacrifice.

Agreeing as a unit that the Android’s capabilities warranted a seperation of his parts after a brief study, 6 countries chosen at random were selected to hide away a piece of the APEX Android, to prevent their reconstruction, hopefully.

Now, the team has received their own directives and missions, as decided by their individual members. Quarters are established at their HQ, and a modified, prototype troop carrier like VTOL, known as the Quintessance, rests in the hanger for missions.

Arriving back from a patrol in Alexandria, Medjay has set to work attempting to find a lead on the origin of the APEX android manufacturer, her tracking powers only able to lead her too a since abandoned factory in southeast Ironport.

Dropping a recovered launch capsule the size of a hatchback in the hanger to be picked up by engineering staff with a growl, she stalks to the meeting room of the newly christened Duncan Building, resisting the urge to slam the table.

“I found where the robot’s original rocket vapor trail left as it arrived to the manor, but it was clear this was simply a staging area. Whoever launched this thing and dropped it off, was smart enough to travel in a method that I can’t discern.” She explains to essembled engineering staff and law enforcement liaisons, her frustration evident, but she is visibly cooling down.

“I will be in my quarters, resting and meditating if I am needed. Does anyone know where the rest of the team is?” She inquires.

It had been several long days

It had been several long days of public appearances to placate doubts and uncertainties since the "Anderson Manor Incident" culminating in the funeral of Arthur Anderson. The whole team was there. We thought for sure that another android would appear since it was so very public and ripe timing for chopping the team off at its knees again before it could really establish itself. But no android made an appearance.

The days were perfect for Kahuna, though, since his calming presence helped to reassure the people and assuage any fears that the whole idea of the team was ill-fated. It gave him a chance to feel like he had a role to play. And he immersed himself in the role in order to distract his own thoughts from self-doubt. The unintended side effect was his popularity with children. Everywhere he went, young boys and girls would collect around him like `I`iwi and `Apapane birds to a ‘ōhi‘a ‘ai tree. He would smile and laugh and tell them stories and fables. It was a great distraction.
