I want floating drone firing point that can be accessorized to look unique for every hero.
1) there needs to be a range of basic shapes from orbs to cubes to various geometric shapes.
2) there needs to be a variety of accessories I can add that can serve as costume pieces or drone pieces
3) both a mage and a techno wizard can have drones that visually stand apart.
4) more than one drone can be had (or purchased)
5) I do not mind at all if this is a cash shop vanity
I just envision a techno geek who made a killer drone and registered as a hero....or entered a life of crime
IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE IN THIS POST: I WANT EVERY DRONE TO LOOK UNIQUE!
Thank you for you time. I have a million concepts .

So you essentially want a prop that you can customize. I mean, I can get behind the idea I just worry about the mechanical side of things. And possibly adding way too many steps to character creation.
Possibly a simplified version with just like, model, color, patterns, and material.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
We are already going to be spending hours in character creation. Whats another 10 minutes?
I just want to avoid a cookie cutter drone that looks like it was ordered out of a catalog.

How about we give the same set of pieces that can be places anywhere on our PC to a drone with pretty basic chassis.

simple solution. I like that!

While conceptually simple, that may be technically difficult!
Not a tech guy, but if they've already got "put this broach anywhere on your body", they could easily do "put this broach anywhere on this sphere"

They already have the base system(s) implemented, the system(s) for generating PCs, NPCs, and/or summonable pets. Only thing they need is a different base model and allowable costume pieces.
I'd like to add my 2 IGC: I'd be willing to pay (IGC or USD, either one) for customizable drones and/or minions.

My main in DCUO was a gadgets guy. One of my favorite powers was a drone that followed me around like a pet and shot at people. You could modify what projectile it fired at people to fit your playstyle. It was pretty cool.
Except I had no control over its appearance at all. Not even colors. It didn’t match anything about my character. That was the only thing I really hated about it.
If we have a drone I’d love to customize it, even if that only means changing colors and putting a logo on it, that’d be enough for me.
I'd agree that ideally it'd be cool to be able to fully customize a "drone pet" with parts that could be mixed/matched like our character's costume items would be. Maybe that could be a long term goal for MWM to think about.
But in the shorter term it'd probably be far easier for them to create say 20 or 30 predesigned drones to choose from (ranging from tech-based ones to magical 'disco balls' and the like) where the physical shape is hardwired but they might still be able to allow us to change the basic colors involved. I think if we could choose from that many options and be able to color them as we wanted that it would make most people at least 90% happy with it.

And let's not forget reskinning and the mod community. If you know a good 3D artist, you'll probably be able to get the drone you want. (Just know that no one else will see the same one you do)
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
Sure there's always the possibility that the ability to do local "client-only" modding will be as free/open as it was in CoH. I'm doing my best to -not- get my hopes up on that too much until we see the realities of the thing because it's always possible CoT will end up not allowing for it for whatever reason. It's obviously hard to judge the modding capabilities of a game that hasn't hit open beta yet.

Actually, Warframe provided an alternate option for that sort of thing. Tennogen is basically a costume design contest; whichever Tennogen pieces - which can be warframe customization, weapons, ships, and more - get the most votes per "season" get added to the game. If MWM did this, it'd be a very easy way to outsource some costume design to graphics designers that aren't technically part of the company.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Allowing third party modders to potentially submit costume content to MWM for selection/vetting into the core CoT game is not exactly a new suggestion - several people (including yours truly) have suggested it here on these forums several times over the years. To be fair I wasn't specifically aware of the TennoGen thing but frankly it doesn't surprise me that other games have already started to do this.
To be clear I was wanting to make sure that the type of modding (client-side) that we had in CoH is going to be allowed in CoT in the first place as "Step 1". If that's going to be the case then maybe we can talk about "Step 2" which would be having players possibly submit modded items to be included into the core game.

TF2 has been adding community content for what, a decade? It doesn't have to be limited to costumes and props either. Furniture and stuff for bases (or use in procedural level creation!) and other things could be crowdsourced. Not only is it free development but it is free quality assurance since the community votes on it and it can be required to adhere to specific guidelines for acceptance.
This can even be done with sound and voice work, textures, particle effects, you name it. People love having their work included in their favorite game. It is a mod maker's dream and really good business move. Fans love it too.

Again much of what you've just mentioned has already been suggested to MWM multiple times. That's the curse of having an active forum for a game that hasn't launched yet meander around from topic to topic for the better part of 5 years now. ;)
The limits of what third parties could possibly provide for this game will be based on how serious MWM wants to accept that outside help and how robust they make their game in terms of what mods are possible. Remember much of what you just alluded to would not have even been possible for CoH even if they wanted to support it.

Oh, I wasn't just talking about client side mods. If the content is good enough you can incorporate it into the game itself. TF2 does both of those, that is why I used it as an example. TF2 even motivates community content creators that are high enough quality to have their work added to the official game by adding their stuff to the cash shop and a percent of sales of those items going to the creators. They do this while also allowing that content to be acquired normally through drops and crates and trading and crafting and whatnot, so it works with their free to play model.
Definitely some things are harder to add than others and will require a certain level of skill and tools. That is why TF2 started to give out flesh out and give away tools that the developers used. Players started creating higher quality content and more varied stuff like whole animations, effects, sounds, etc.
All that being said....I do understand if they want to focus on getting a well polished and tight product to show off to the public first. A game that can impress people is going to have a lot more potential for having a productive community to draw content from. TF2, as an example, never would have had such a great deluge of quality community content created if people didn't love it.
They can always open the gates for community content later.
Yes I got your point and as I've said what you're talking about (things being submitted to be included in the core game) has in fact been talked about here several times in the past. There would clearly be many huddles to overcome for something like that to be doable for CoT.
And obviously there is a relationship between people modding things just for their local client side use and submitting their creations to be included in the main game for -everyone's- use. One usually has to happen before the other is even a possiblity. ;)

Yeah I'll take my usual stance in the "not at launch" brigade on custom drones. In exchange, hopefully they can scrap together an almost diverse cast of pets.

Ideally pets could be customizable using the character creator or some variation of it, and their powers having the same customization options that we would get for other powers.
Perhaps have preset options (fireball aesthetic as an example for a power) but let us tweak it as much as we want if we are going for a "blue fire" or "green fire" aesthetic instead of the usual orange/red.
I think that is the goal for general powers, to have some premade options but let us get creative with customizing them, so it would make sense the same would be true of pets.
