i REALIZED I MISS CITY OF HEROES MORE THAN I THOUGHT

But i'm not oblivious to whats going on now, or even if the game would ever possibly come back. There are 3 games

saying there going to be the successor to city of heroes but in actuality how can a game truly be a successor?

because they have super heroes in a mmorg ?? The same could be said about DC Universe Online or Champions

in that case. In my humble opinion and if there's anyone who can truly succeed COH by keeping its essence alive

while still allowing room for new ideas is to have the same skeleton in a sense; for example when i was a kid i

wanted Air Jordans, my mom said spending 100 dollars on a pair of shoes was crazy, and i wouldnt wear ANYTHING

that didnt have that same feel of jordans, all the cool kids had them so my moms resolution was to buy alt brand

jordans i forgot the name but for names sake lets call them Air Gordons where the only thing different was a up close

view. If there is anyone out there that agrees please back me up, My idea is to have a pay homage zone if you will of

Atlas Park call it whatever but retain that city of hero essense when u log in. keep the platform and the guy holding the

world with a state bldg. behind him have a wentworths called a Gentworths .Although these names are comical im mainly want to intune with the idea of the reference have an off brand city from the game

to TRULY call yourself its successor. I played the pre - beta of valiance online and it claimed to be a cox successor

but i felt like i was playing a rundown version of a hero mmo nightmare. And honestly running around that strange

place made me miss coh even more. What i'm saying is have something that visually connects this project to city

of heroes is a must have step. Otherwise your making a dime a dozen dc, marvel, champions online game. Copy

atlas and change the names, spruce up the imagery but retain the essence. and not just a zone but the look of the

enhancements screen ,controls and much more . All of us who donated this money was fueled by the idea of retaining the game in a sense

they haven't spent so many hours and years of there life to in a chance to breath life into another game which holds little

to no resemblance to the game they holded so dear.

I get it, you want to be different, make a game that's bigger,

and better and that's what i think everyone wants as well. But in this quest i think its pivotal not to distance a pepole and to have some part of city of heroes baseline or something that connects This core audience back to there hurricane Katrina wrecked game home. Due to the unique way this game got rolling from the demise of another in the first place we owe a solemn duty to figuratively speaking rebuild the super dome and get the saints to the Superbowl.

and then u can branch in the new ideas otherwise you've alienated the very people who believed in and fought for this project.

Most of the entire staff of City Of Titans i'm sure can relate but there are some that wouldn't understand if they haven't been a coh vet to have the love of the game, and that's fine its nice to have fresh ideas but as an overlaying of flesh not as its skeletal bone . Lets remember were not adopting a new child into a family, were finding a long lost blood relative. Noone wants more sadness and looking back, thats just going to give others a reason to make more successors, let THIS game be the one true successor that everyone can see,no questions asked across the board. well give us a reason not to look back. This game is supposed to fill the void of that gap of feeling like we've done our lovegame justice not moved to another planet. Please brothers and sisters join with me and let our voices be heard. Coh was a game that had superhuman powers as well as a superhuman hold in our lives and were the people making its successor, take all the things that made cox unique and copy paste, that "feeling" remembering the dynamic costume creator, the unique zones that went beyond a normal city scape took us into space from fire zulu. Atlas park, a place where i saw people sit for hours sometime a day or two just standing under that globe. i would suggest an under-water zone that would be unique but only as a adjoining part to the already familiar. Super bases designing was second to none also those low level missions like the sewers and frost fire that kept a strong bond with newbies and low level toons that shouted for a team work atmosphere a bond that rekindled in the latter levels of peregrine island. I gave coh a few ideas they used in game such as the pocket d club, the michael jackson dance in party pack( i was a huge mj fan) The moon base mission in the story arc, and to some degree helped push mission design which they turned into AE. i think they were in-tuned to the hordes of people loving super base creation . The essence of what im trying say is bring back Atlas. hes a titan afterall and as long as i've been associated with the titan network i never felt stronger about an issue but i felt this topic to be necessary to be brought to the public . Your thoughts community ?

I understand your concerns

I understand your concerns and desires. I played in CoX from Issue-3, through the introduction of Enhancement Diversification, CoV release, and introduction of Incarnates. Many of us on the development team started even earlier.

We are Very conscious of the challenge ahead. As has been stated we want to create a "spiritual" successor to our beloved former game. The unfortunate truth is that no one can duplicate CoH without securing the rights to that property: something that was attempted more than a year ago by various efforts under the Titan Network. So, we are now set on a path to make new separate game.

We will strive to rebuild the amazing Super community (many of whom are presently posting in this very forum), and stay mindful of what made the old game great. We will also seize opportunities that improvements in technology offer us in the course of our efforts. And, yes, some things will be different, but then this is not a clone of the old.

We have ideas for story, costumes, and bases that I'm hopeful you'll like. Time will tell, but I encourage you to share your views in the many topics throughout the forums, or create new points of discussion (as you have done here).

Lastly, at least for me, keeping that intangible community spirit in focus during the journey to launch day is what I find imperative.

A clone of the old is a bit

A clone of the old is a bit over reaching, My concerns are about a "sense" of familiarity being tied back. Just because COX made the new zones for the resistance and loyalist even though they were fancier and more grand than Atlas park, they didn't retain that "essence" what made atlas so popular even at level 50 people loved returning to the home zone. The zone was visually designed for interaction and showing off powers. As soon as you enter you see miss liberty and then the platform were most of the heroes hung out people would be able to see the new toons come in and the new toons seen what they could become. It kinda reminded me of a starbucks. I'm a designer myself and i know how being different and refreshing is important but i also understand people with the most success copy of the ideas of other successful ventures. for example, Facebook and instagram, Or twitter. Mc cafe mcdonalds copied off of the starbucks idea but there totally different business. but again like you said im looking forward to being surprised at whats already in works, just putting my 2cents worth.

To extend this a *little* bit

To extend this a *little* bit... its similar to as to why Alliance players go to Stormwind mainly in WoW instead of the other racial capital cities. It has all the stuff that you need in a nice location, with no problems getting around.

Even pre 80 (Wrath of the lich king), you will find players of ALL Alliance races there, even if they have to go out of their way for it.

I keep thinking of what the

I keep thinking of what the devs for CoT stated: the game has to stand on its own as a subscription model (paraphrase). This means the game simply cannot be a rehash of CoX; it has to retain elements that work and jettison those that didn't and bring in new ones to grab new players who think enough of it to subscribe. I think its terribly unrealistic to believe that CoT is going to go online and the majority of former CoH players are going to all sub for life just because CoT came online, it will have to offer more than just pretty new graphics and a couple features. The long term survival of the game will lie in one aspect - that is is fun and keeps players coming back.

Just remember - CoT is in the spirit of CoH, it is not CoH!

First, thank you for your input. As a designer myself, I find quality ideas in all places and welcome constructive criticism. So, feel free to promote your position.

Now the following are just my personal thoughts. It is my strong belief that the Atlas zone, and particularly the raised platform under the statue was so popular due to a gathering of the community there. It had a feel that was unique and welcoming exactly because people welcomed each other. I also believe its why Rogue Ilse and Pretoria didn't have this feeling as they caused a segmenting of the community: they were elsewhere. I witnessed some attempts by players to create the same "connection", but it never felt that way to me.

Its important to note that CoT is not being developed to be different just because we want it that way: its because it must be that way. We are very conscious of trespassing on the intellectual property of others. As someone that had to guard and defend my last employer from that exact element, I am keenly aware of the pitfalls.

Thankfully, we also know the areas where we can range freely, with more than sufficient room to create a unique quality game that reaches to bring the essence of the old back to life. We remain open to input that aides us in accomplishing that and providing features our customers will enjoy.

Atlas park also had the

Atlas park also had the distinct advantage for being a good place to start because it was 1st on the zone selection list after you completed the tutorial (pre freedom). After that, you had no choice but start there (unless you went rogue or praetorian).

I know that some people who started in Villains preferred Cap Au Diable compared to Atlas Park/Steel Canyon hero side.

Atlas was a nice obvious

Atlas was a nice obvious landmark and great for costume contests, since you could create a new character, skip the tutorial, and you're right there. Also the large area that was not right next to the trainer or anything else, so you weren't in anyone's way.

Cap au Diable was great because you had the black market, university, and vendors right next to each other, and later you had the Crucible. It was like villain Talos.

Something I'd like to throw

Something I'd like to throw out right now...I already see a teensy problem with some of the concept art I recall from the KS info. The big raised platform in the city square has the stylized eagle statue right in the middle. If we want to facilitate CC's as in days of old, it should at least be pushed back so as not to cut off site lines across the pedestal. Am I right?

As long as I can have virtue

As long as I can have virtue server to run around in and have random strangers complement me on my bio and costume... I'll be sound as a pound.

I'd actually like a new spot to do CCs frankly. CO has a Theatre where most of their CCs take place and I liked the idea. It's instanced so less lag but open to anyone so nobody feels left out. Lighted panels on the stage denote where everyone can stand and there are several tiers so the people in the back can be seen from the front.

I loved the CCs under Atlas but I'd like to entertain the notion of something new...

I remember when Star Wars was cool...a long, long time ago...
