Ok, as many of you know, I've been playing a lot of Destiny 2 lately. Actually, I've had an account on that game since the free trial they gave me for playing Overwatch, and that was like 6 months ago at this point. Time flies. Anyway, D2 apparently has some badge-like things called "Triumphs" which it tracks and gives you credit for accomplishing as you play. I never paid much attention to them until tonight. I noticed that, despite having played a lot and gotten a lot of defeats and stuff done, my "Triumph score" was still at zero.
Apparently, in D2, once you've done all the stuff you need to do to unlock a Triumph, you actually have to go to the "Triumphs" screen and click on it to finally "claim" it...
I had never done that, not once, until now. So tonight my Triumph score went from zero to like 25000 in a matter of seconds. Lol.
Why they make you click on each Triumph to claim it is beyond me. The Triumphs don't give you anything or ask you to make choices (e.i. it's not like you get your choice of two different guns when you cash in any of these things, they just increase your Triumph score, as far as I can tell).
R.S.O. of Phoenix Rising
Yeah that's a silly system. I get that you want to give the gratification of claiming it, but --shocker-- CoH did it better with the "BADGE EARNED"

Some times you wonder, "Why'd they do that?"
This. This is one of those times.
It's indeed weird. Of course I wouldn't know why you should make it like that. Maybe they want to make you seeing why you get the achievement, badge, etc.
(Maximum is around 68k... I should hunt more I guess. Especially I just reached max level) (I bought the DLCs just recently... 3 weeks ago)

The only reason I could see where this -might- make a bit of sense (and I'm using that word loosely) is if the game somehow made the "Triumph Winning" thing like an in-game location. It'd be like having to go to the "badge store" physically located somewhere in the city to go pick up your in-game badges and once there the game would force you to open a special GUI to click on your badges to claim them.
Now to be totally clear I would still think that would be a "dumb idea" and I'm not suggesting CoT work like that at all. I'm just thinking of a slightly less "weird" idea than the D2 Triumphs thing that seems completely abstract and pointless. Maybe D2 did it the way it did because they were expecting the whole thing to be more of a "spend Triumph points to get in-game swag" system and when that didn't happen it was just easier to leave the "claim GUI" in place than to rip it out.
Regardless I'd much prefer MWM just stick with the way CoH did it where you'd just get awarded a badge automagically as soon as your earn it.

Since games no longer come with any kind of official manual anymore (obsolete as soon as it's printed, etc), I never had much of any reason to even look at the Triumphs screen in the character menu. Last night, I got a mission from a NPC to get some errands done, one of which was "unlock the 'The Best Offense' Strike Triumph" . At first I misread that as "do the 'The Best Offense' strike" and went looking for that strike so I could do it (there's a queue for strikes, so I do tons of them). I eventually had to reread it again and go looking for the Triumph they mentioned. It requires you to do 100 strikes (I'm at like 68 now), and to do some other stuff that I've already done.
How many years in are they in D2 now? I think it's sad that they had to tie something I wanted (a mission) to a Triumph just to get me to learn what Triumphs are and how they work. Also, I now wish there had been some kind of reward for doing some of the harder ones. I mean, would it have been that bad to give us the occasional loot drop or something for doing one of the bigger Triumphs?

For the record I hope we can produce an official manual for the game, even if it's only a website.

Any manual for CoT must be presented in an easy to understand graphical format or it will be unacceptable. The following is a good example of what should be done for this game:

P.S. This was obviously a joke... but it would be funny to see the "superhero" equivalent to this. :)

Do You know what the saddest part about this "joke" is?
Some of them are being done by others... Or at least must have been done to some degree...

Yeah in all seriousness I'd ask MWM to avoid printing any documentation for CoT on real life paper - it's always obsolete the instant you print it regardless. Having an "official manual for the game" would be great but that could easily be done as downloadable PDFs or help pages within the game itself.

Welp that thread took a turn.
Badges shouldn't be done like D2. I would bet that they had a plan to reward players for accomplishing various triumphs. But that got canned but they never removed the "click to unlock" mechanic. It wasn't "not working" so they didn't "fix" it for release. OR they didn't fix it because it would break more stuff by removing the click to unlock feature, so the click feature stayed.
You should totally start a thread on their forums and tell them how dumb it is.
*turns left*
Yay a Manual!
*puts it in neutral and rolls slowly down the hill backwards*

Man, talk about half baked.
I can imagine a scenario in which D2 originally planned for the various Triumphs to "mean something" (anything?) game mechanically speaking, but then you'd only be "allowed" to have one of them active at a time ... hence why you'd have to click a Triumph in order to make it the "active" one with a game mechanical effect. Insert a budget cut and/or failed development cycle (or few) and you wind up with the cumbersome nonsense of a UI described that doesn't even serve a vestigial purpose.

I ended up using the CoX Wiki as my game manual. It was always being updated and had everything a player needed to know, new or long time player.
Between that and Mids, I was good to go, no matter what.
We are encouraging player-made Wikis.

A psychological reinforcement thing? "Click to get stuff"?
Who wants to start the Wikia? :p

No wikia wikiups wicks...
The wiki for another game I play runs on MediaWiki, and it looks professional and fairly fully functional.

Didn't Titanscity (the guy who runs the french fan site) already start a wiki?
That's what the internal Comp wiki uses.

Yeah, I believe you're right. I've only been there once, which isn't a critique on the site, but it's not on my list of habitually visited sites.
I believe he has. Does anyone have the link handy?

I had the link in a PM. I don't think he got very far... http://wikioftitans.com/
His fan site also hasn't been updated since early Feb, don't think I've seen him on discord for a while either. Hope the guy's alright.
Yeah, might wanna start from scratch. I'd love to contribute to articles, but idk how to build a wiki

I was thinking the same thing earlier today when I peeped at his fansite.
This is funny because its true. When I was in Italy I had a rental, a Fiat Grand Punto, which had been thrashed by many Americans, too used to automatics. So, first gear was shredded all to hell. There was a stop sign at the top of a hill between my hotel and my work site. The road isn't very busy, most days I would *ahem* run the sign. But today a large truck was coming and I had to stop. That was my undoing. I tried several times to get it moving, but it stalled each time. It stalled so many times the battery was getting weak and having a harder time restarting the engine. Which the darn car did automatically after a stall when you pressed the brake. Which you tend to do to keep from rolling backwards down a hill. So I gave up and decided to roll it to the bottom of the hill. I wasn't used to the car and initially rolled into a ditch. There was a small freak out in the ditch by yours truly. As I was a bit overwhelmed being in another country without communication or language and in a ditch. I managed to roll it out of the ditch and down the rest of the hill and into a parking lot near a church (I think) where I sat for about 10 minutes letting the car idle and recharge the battery. I then got the car in gear on flat ground and rushed up the hill, through the sign and off to work. I walked to work the rest of my time there.
*drives down the highway 20kph too slow cause there are eight speed limits posted and I haven't a clue which one is correct and I barely know where I'm going*

Hi all :)
Don't worry, i'm safe ! I was just in a long mission to arrest an evil project and put it in jail ! Organize the team, finishing the reporting of the mission, going to the headquarter to have another mission, you know what i mean ... :D
Indeed, i'm not dead, Titanscity.com is not dead either ^^ (As there was no real new information, i let it drop aside. I'm still translating the last news for the french community.)
Concerning a wiki, or a website :
i already ask for information so as to put a wikilike website online and i just had the answer "you'll be warn when you could have access to some informations" (to sumarise) but it was a long time ago (i received a mail from Shadow Elusive saying titanscity has been noticed and i'll get in touch with the right people to have access to the "KS" section (for instance) to have official support and access to all this good stuff. But i've never heard anything from it from 10/22/2017 :s I was only in touch with Terwynn for some translation.
What did i do :
I had a project to put a wiki online which could let players to collaborate in translating items in several languages (1 item in 1 language : several translations), but i don't have enought technical knowledge to do that. what's done it's probably not efficient in terms of backend maintainability
wikioftitans.com is the domain i choose for that. There is a nude install of wordpress on it. I had a first try (http://wot.titanscity.com) but i'm not used with joomla!
I tried to install a wiki once but i think the way of participating on wiki is not user friendly and does not fit with what i wanted (1 item in 1 language : several translation)
So, from now, i have a young developper which is in school and will probably handle to develop this wiki with me (but he's still in school and we not be able to help soon).
If you have technical knowledges in websites and wanna help, you are welcome ! That's the only part i really need. for the content, i'm not worry, i can handle it.
I have a document which describes what i would like to do (even if some technical requirements are to precise).
Whatever, I'm always up to use official informations and make something for the community like a wiki (but i really want something which could be translated by the community like , for instance, the "anthem" page could be translated by the players). Don't hesitate to send me a PM if you wanna help or, MWM don't hesitate to speak with me (througt PM, discord or artemis.planck at google)

I know Joomla (or used to). I also know how to set up a base wiki, but I just don't have the time right now to help out or I would. You are in very good standing with us, Titan City, so when you ask for support we will give what we can.

I guess ! And, i think everyone prefers you to be on the CoT development instead of helping us xD Me, first ^^ But thanks anyway :)
Thanks also for your further support :) i'm still ready to help you to translate the game
