Hey guys, I have two ideas that are related enough for one post, but I will talk about them separately:
First, there should be a way to display hero costumes in the SG base. You know, when I think of a hero's base, I often think Bat Cave, and I think back to batman's various costumes and how they end up in glass containers in his bat cave (as well as robin). It seems like it would be easy enough to do, think Icon displays in CoX.
I see no reason why it wouldn't be able to be added into the game as like a decoration option that you buy with SG currency. Perhaps it will only copy the costume of the wearer? So it would have to be set by someone and then that person could switch toons or costumes and then make another display. In theory it could be folded up in a glass display, but I think the easiest way to copy existing game information would be to just put the costume on a manikin. These manikins could have different pose (emote) options or they could just have some ordinary stance. Again, it could copy whatever costume that the creator has on... or it could simply open up a character creation type screen. Here, a character could display his or her costume ideas for other members to load and use, or it could simply be the place that your toon puts his or her costume when not out adventuring.
Another possible extension of this manikin idea would be that perhaps you could set it to automatically put your costume on the manikin when you log out. That would be so interesting, and a cool way to see who is online, and while you are online, there would just be an empty manikin in its place.
This leads very nicely into my other idea of putting character statues as a base decoration option. Again, there are several ways to go about this. One could have a variety of pose options for a current costume (although all in gray stone, bronze, gold etc...) Why not have your own hall of heroes? Maybe a solo character wants his own terracotta army. Maybe you have a gold statue of your leader or of a fallen but not forgotten supergroup mate. Maybe you could use various different types of statues (gold vs silver vs bronze) to represent group hierarchy. There are many uses for this.
Another option, maybe instead of a statue you want a hologram of yourself. Why not? Maybe your character is a robot who only gets powered on when there is a threat to its master, and otherwise stands waiting in the corner of your tech-themed base. Maybe instead, you put the statue (in color) in a statis tube or chryogenic chamber, as your hero preserves himself until his services are required (thus extending his life* by using him only when there is a threat to the earth).
I just think this opens up a lot of potential for character development and the use of the bases, while not being too difficult to make. It also gives more for supergroups to spend their currency on once reaching the maximum size and everything (as in charging 1000 times more for a crystaline statue than for a bronze statue)
Also, if base raids are a thing, maybe allow a defensive robot and then also allow statues and things that look like defensive robots... throw the enemy scouts through a loop trying to find out where the real defenses are.
But what do you guys think? Is this a reasonable request? Are there other ways you might use this type of system or is there anything that I left out along these lines?
I love the idea.
For my villain base I would want the same glass cases, but with the Hero and his costume inside... maybe pouting in a corner, beating on the glass, or just standing there scowling at whoever is closest. I'd pay real money for some buttons with which to zap him :)
I think being able to torture prisoners for giggles might cost our T-Rating.

You guys spent too much time blue side. Here's your first villain lesson: Sssssh! Don't go telling everyone what we're doing.
Sound advice, Rootz. But you were the one who told the whole Internet. ^_^

Love the manikin idea, might get crowded in a big SG, but that's no reason not to have the option.
and they could always put limits on the number you are allowed to have like CoX did with a lot of things. I am not a fan of too much limiting of things for the base, but I think a reasonable number can be found! But I say hey, if a massive SG wants to dedicate a whole room to the Hall of Manikins for their toons and alts, let them. But maybe do like in CoX where certain types of rooms can only have a few manikins etc. I don't know, just throwing out ideas I guess.
One pretty simple idea is to limit available mannequins to officer and leader ranks. The largest groups I've seen in various games very rarely have more than ten officers, even if they have hundreds of lower rank members. "SGs of one" and the sort of groups that only have five members because they're all real life friends means that they can do whatever they like with that. That way, if a super-huge SG wants every member to have a mannequin, they can perhaps create a low grade officer rank, so you go from newbie to member (a reskinned low-grade officer, as it were) up to normal officers and finally the leader.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Agreed. The manikin and being able to dress it up is a marvelous idea. Its something that you can do in Wildstar, and although I don't actually do it, it is on my bucket list.
