So I think it's been pretty well established that CoT will be set "somewhere in Massachusetts" according to the bits or lore established in the Kickstarter updates. Nothing too weird about that.
But in the last day or two there have been some rampant rumors that Fallout 4 could be released by the end of the year and that it would be set (wait for it...) in Boston!
Now I'm quite sure that's a complete coincidence but it did get me to thinking: Wouldn't it be totally awesome if CoT and Fallout 4 could somehow be linked together? The world of Fallout 4 could exist as some kind of dark mirror universe to the happy-shiny world of CoT. Remember how CoH toyed with the idea of "dynamic environments" in Recluse Victory and when the villains were winning the zone looked all trashed and run-down? What if there was some kind of alternate universe story in CoT where some group of villains actually blew up the world in some epic battle and forced you to have to play in a Fallout-styled apocalyptic Boston setting until you could figure out a way to undo what the villains did to return to the "proper" CoT universe.
I know this won't really happen but it's fun to consider the possibilities. Maybe without any direct connection to Fallout 4 the Devs of CoT could devise a special trial that would simulate playing in a alternate universe Fallout-type setting until the trial is complete.

Rather than something to be undone or fixed, such a setting could be a Mirror Universe* setting. Perhaps something akin to Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm), with a large part of the population living a la Fallout while the 'haves' live in flying or even orbital cities.
Largely Undeveloped Idea I Just Had[sup]TM[/sup]: have several such settings - I'll call them streams - into which characters can be pulled. This begins relatively early, say around levels 10 or 15. The character does their thing there and is dropped back home. (The first visits might only be long enough for the PCs to get their Keanu Reeves** on.) As one will expect, these experiences eventually become longer and more intense. Among the various possible reasons for this could be that it is tied into something (entirely un)like the incarnate system, explaining why the PCs are a little more equal than the thousands of other heroes/villains. However, that'd make this idea a fairly fundamental part of the setting and mythos so it'd probably be something a little less far-reaching..
* In this case everyone, which means even the women and children, would have goatees.
** "Whoa."

What would the goats have then?
Everyone? Oh. Okay.
They would just look sheepish.
Seriously, though, nobody will remember Fallout 4 by the time CoT ships.
Has anyone seen my mind? It was right here...
Really? I remember looking forward to and playing the first Fallout when it first came out. It was only 17 years ago.
Seriously, though, you kids and your short attention spans...

It could be a case of selective memory. Violence and pretty graphics are well and good. The way I see it, some of these games have Grampy Bones and miniature giant space hamsters. Others don't.

But lets not forget that some of us will have the trauma of a washable blue streak in our hair.
The first Fallout? Heck, a friend of mine has a copy of Wasteland with the original GURPS stats.
Admittedly, he works for Steve Jackson Games.
Honestly, if there was one game I'd like to cross over with, it's Saint's Row. They've got the right blend of fun and anarchy that just makes me happy. It's a little less socially positive than I like to write, but...
Well, someone there played on Virtue.

If we're gonna have crossovers in CoT, then surely there must be a place reserved for Detective John Munch.
