I'm sorry if this isn't the correct sub-forum, or if it's already been suggested.
There is clearly a desire for CoT future players to communicate publicly (see kickstarter comments), and I'm wondering what will happen once the kickstarter ends. I suppose we could still continue to use the comments section, but that seems non optimal. I'm wondering if these forums have the ability to host a shoutbox, or something along those lines? Just something for people to be social, and share ideas or just talk in real time. Personally, I'm fairly quiet and don't say much, but I think people would appreciate something like this.
Just a thought

Well, there are these forums to be able to communicate as you want, as well as the IRC channel (which reminds me, better dive in there at some point).
That's what the hangout/lairs section of this board is for. Use it!

I am familiar with what forums are, and how they are to be used. A shoutbox is very different than a forum sub-section, and is usually a module of the forum software itself. It's usually used as more of a global short term message box, as opposed to writing and classifying a message in a particular sub-forum. I think the differences are pretty dramatically apparent.
However, I digress, perhaps what I perceive as a need isn't one. As I mentioned before, I rarely speak anyway, and I was just thinking of the larger community.
We'll see if there is a Drupal shoutbox module. Though, as far as Drupal goes, it will be a low priority. However, we just got new webhead volunteers!

Oh i know what you were on about, I had one on a set of forums that I have ran in the past. Short term messaging system can be anything from 5 seconds to infinity (depending on how often it gets used)
I have noticed that they *generally* appear on smaller community websites (like guild/Supergroup/corporation dedicated ones), because with a *larger* user base behind it, especially if the group is active, then there is *nothing* to say that your message will last just 30 seconds on the visible section of the shout box.
If anything, they are for the *non essential* messages out there... the ones that are there to just say "hi". Nothing more, nothing less. Because trying to hold a conversation on one is annoying.
However, I can see a mibbit chat box to the IRC channel being set up *nudge nudge*
And yes, we do have moderators in the channel at all times.
Gangrel, I think you made a very valid point, one that I certainly didn't think of. At the rate those kickstarter comments are coming in (if it's any indication of future involvement), you're right in that the message might not last 10 seconds before it's pushed off the screen. I think at this point, many of us have run guild or fan sites with this feature enabled, but in my case the audience was certainly smaller, and while it worked in those occasions it might not be optimal here.
Definitely low priority Zombie. In reality I was just thinking aloud and throwing an idea to see if it stuck.
Also, a dev reminded me that any shoutbox would have to pass the website exploit test, too.

My experiences (as a web admin) with Shout box have been that it's a seldom used feature until someone with the maturity of a 12 year old discovers they can slap obscenities or similar embarrassments all over your landing page very quickly. Then there's a flurry of people who use because you're considering taking it down - - then a week later - - no one uses it again.
Aside from that - maybe 1 out 50 people know what it is, and 1 out of 200 actually use it.
