To be fair the closest thing to a "topic" you actually introduced in this thread was the notion of not making Blue Deville mad. All I can say to that is that I had a character/costume in CoH that was a practical clone of her right down to the red-tipped horns. I think the only difference with mine was I didn't bother with the face mask. Not sure if she would be mad with knowing about her doppelgänger or not. ;)

You're right, we can't be too careful with copywrite these days. What if a player character using a popular costume scheme gets noticed by Marvel and a pretty similar official character gets created and trademarked? All the players looking similar would need to be banned. Our only solution is that the server must log all costumes and not allow you to finalize any costume that is not at least 30% different from any other. That way we only need to ban the one player instead of everyone using the popular scheme.

To be clear I'm not actually mad at Blue Deville or that she was so close to one of mine. For one thing I saw many "vaguely similar succubus" type clones use those exact same costume pieces. Besides Cyclops didn't show us the bottom half of Ms. Deville so those parts might have been completely different from my "version" of this.
Frankly it was actually so rare to run into anyone else in CoH that looked even remotely similar that I certainly wouldn't want CoT to impose any hardwired "30% thredholds" or anything silly like that. The only thing this game needs to worry about are people trying to make exact Iron Man or Wonder Woman clones and I'll leave it to the GMs to "genericize" those people.
