Dispatch from the North Pole Enquirer: December 15, 2014.

Work continues on the new 'Advanced Launch System' which is scheduled to be used for the first time this year. Final operational tests on the power feeds for the magnetics and the lock and release systems are set to be complete by the end of this week.

Says Launch Ops Manager 'flinger' Belltoes, "For 500 years we've been using the traditional 'runway and ski ramp' system for lack of a truly efficient replacement. By using this new system, we should take the burden off of the Reindeer during the power intensive launch phase. This should increase their flight duration by several subjective hours."

North Pole Flight control still shows everything on track for the annual flight.

For the Enquirer, Alexis Alexander reporting.

Correctly filling the orders of all of the world's children is complicated enough even at the best of times, but when your matter replication systems are experiencing glitches, it becomes almost impossible.

Says lead toy designer 'Gizmo' Jingles, "We're having to dust off equipment we haven't used since the 70's. The 1870's that is. Fortunately, most of our floor crew were around then and we should be able to make the quota with only a minimum of rush.'

The elves have added a fourth shift on two of their three assembly and packing lines.

Dispatch from the North Pole Enquirer: December 17, 2014.

The material sciences lab at the pole has been hard at work trying to come up with new, friction reducing designs.

Says lead researcher "Slyde' jingletoes, "We're always looking for new ways to reduce aerodynamic drag for the big man. We've been working with teflon analogues but were not quite there yet. For now, we'll have to stick with the classic red velvet and fur."

Reporting for the Enquirer, Alexis Alexander.

Dispatch from the North Pole Enquirer, December 18, 2014:

Although the staff of North Pole Industries are an incredibly long lived lot, they do occasionally retire. This year the senior head of the fruitcake and sugarplum department is calling it quits after 223 years.

Says 'Walnut Jack' jangles, "It was time to take a break, some time for me, you know. Although I have loved every minute of the past two centuries, it's time to move on. A celebration is planned after the launch on the 25th.

Most people don't give a second thought to the molecular composition of snow but in the friction and resistance labs, it's their only concern.

Says lead researcher 'Fractals' peakkap "When you're moving at hyperspeeds, every bit of friction matters. It's not just how much it slows down deliveries, but with this much energy transfer, we also have to factor in the alteration of local weather patterns along our route."

All department heads report go for the annual flight. Although there have been some glitches, there is a high degree of confidence in the staff of NPI.

Says launch director 'topgun' pointerbrow, "We've been doing this for a long time. Even though our schedule is far more limited, we've successfully managed more subjective flight hours than all of the worlds airlines combined since the beginning of aviation. There are always problems, but our crew has never hit a situation they could not find a solution for."

Does anynone truly know what a sugarplum is? At the North Pole there are hundreds of experts that can answer that question.

Says chief candy designer "sweettooth' belltoes, "We're constantly on the cutting cusp of confectionary. There isn't a sugar based substance we haven't experimented with. We're
poised to premier new designs next year."

Dispatch from the North Pole Enquirer, December 22, 2014:

There is a tension around the pole that nobody seems inclined to talk about. You wouldn't know it from looking around, the employees of North Pole Industries are far too professional than that, but its more obvious in what they don't say. This close to launch day, certain words are just not being spoken.

Can't, won't, didn't. Unready, unable, undoable. Fail, flaw, forgot.

Even from the detached point of view of a reporter, it's hard not to become part of the general excitement, part of the anticipation. They are ready to fly.

Dispatch from the North Pole

Dispatch from the North Pole Enquirer, December 23, 2014:

There is a centuries old tradition that is observed every December 23 at North Pole Industries; the day off.

Long ago they discovered that you can be too anxious about an upcoming event so, in one of the most epic displays of wisdom in the history of history, the Big Man decreed that everybody would take a day off and be nice and rested for the flight.

Part of the tradition is that nothing, nothing at all, occurs on that day. The normal hum of machinery is muted and the lights are dim as everyone takes the opportunity to relax.

They'll be busy enough over the next two days.

Dispatch from the North Pole Enquirer, December 24, 2014:

The waiting has begun.

The Big Man launched hours ago, but even though they are in constant communication with him, everyone here knows that there is absoultely nothing they can do if things go wrong. There is no shouting, only the tense voices feeding data to their pilot. Weather updates, air traffic data, repeated feeds from NORAD and other global defense forces, are all channeled to a man who has more flight hours than any other living entity on planet Earth.

It's all in the Big Man's hands.

The Big Man landed safely hours ago and, soon enough, there will be mission debriefings, equipment analyses, and planning sessions; but for now, there is The Party.

The celebration will last well into the new year, but the Big Man will not the there for most of it, the stresses of Hypertime mean he'll be asleep for some time. once he awakens, he'll be his usual jolly self.

A final thought.

A final thought.

Thank you all for following along.

This was just a simple something that occurred to me over the last few days. I hope you had a happy holiday season and may you and yours have a prosperous New Year.

I'll be anxious to see you all in game. Until then...
