So Doctor Tyche, in another thread threw down this gauntlet.
I, for one, will be looking forward to seeing how soon before an Aether Pirate Cloud Cruiser is brought down.
For some context in that thread we were talking about the dropships in COH. These were devilishly powerful and difficult to kill because you had to do it as they flew quite high and were very durable. Certain devs of COX believed they were unkillable. Approaching en masse was also necessary as their power beams would almost certainly one shot a lone player. I never participated but I had heard it could be done and there are videos. I expect more of the same from an APCC.
Now DT didn't slap me on the face and challenge me to a duel, but I did pick up that gauntlet. Just as I wasn't able to take down a Rikti drop ship on my own, I know that I'm going to need some friends to take down one of these cruisers. I'm sure DT is doubling the hit points on this ship as we speak (figuratively) so it's going to be a big fight.

The only actual "trick" to the Rikti Dropships was to slow them down with a bunch of people using any power that could, well, slow things down. Once they were slowed to a virtual crawl you could usually get enough other "slow poke" people who could catch up to them and apply enough DPS to them to pop them.
When the Dropships were first being tested in beta test it took a day or two to figure out the "trick" but once people had generally figured it out it was almost like shooting fish in a barrel. I was part of one group during beta that managed to kill a bunch of Dropships in a row popping one roughly every 60-90 seconds. Needless to say by the end of the beta the Dropships were heavily nerfed to become highly resistant to Slow effects.
After they went live they were naturally harder to kill than they were during the beta. But if you managed to get a big enough group you could still get enough Slow effects on them to make it possible. I had frankly gotten bored with killing them during the beta but apparently some of the other live servers had a few "killfests" to kill them.
I write all this as a reminder to the Devs of CoT that if they actually want to make their new "Aether Pirate Cloud Cruisers" challenging they need to at account for people using Slow powers and make them somehow more immune to that.

I'm in. We'll see what sort of character I can make for it when the game comes out.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Now that sounds like a Challange. Of course, Rotten Luck be there to bring bad luck to those who threaten Titan City!

Yeah I'm so in for this. My girlfriend ran off with an Aether Pirate. D@mn pirates!

I wonder what the rewards would be? Sooooo many piratey badge titles. In time perhaps an Aether Pirate temp costume? Perhaps even a drunken stagger if you take one down on September 19th! (International Talk Like a Pirate Day!)
Repeat the challenge a few times and earn a Pirated Aether Pirate Sky-Skipper as a personal vehicle?
Be Well!

Frankly if they make these Aether ships super-hard to kill (like the Rikti Dropships were -supposed- to be) then there shouldn't be any special badge or unique reward for them at all, just like there wasn't for the Dropships.
The reason Matt Miller (a.k.a. Positron) did not want there to be any special reward for killing Dropships is because he expected them to be so tough that even if we the players "somehow" managed to kill a few he didn't want there to be the situation where only a few people had some kind of hyper-rare "Dropship badge" while everyone else had NO CHANCE to get it because they didn't happen to be at the right place at the right time where someone, somehow managed to trick the game into making a Dropship die. There were many things I did NOT agree will Posi about, but that decision he had about the Dropships was 100% correct.
Therefore the only "special unique thing" about killing these big Aether ships in CoT should maybe be the movies you make while you're doing it. There should be absolutely NO badges or any other kind of unique reward for them based on the simple fact that if the CoT Devs make them correctly they should be very, very, very, very (did I mention very?) hard to kill in the first place. The fact that you know you did it should be reward enough. Now if they wanted they could maybe drop like rare "purple" loot or something cool as long as it was not UNIQUE that you could ONLY get from Aether ships.

You're right of course. I just couldn't resist!
Well at least your forum handle is appropriate in this case. ;)
Like I said maybe the new Aether ships could drop something like the equivalent of a Hami-O as a cool reward but only as long as that would not be the ONLY way to get such a reward.

For me it was the sadistic (and yes that's the exact word for it) way he implemented the "RV Isolator" solution.
But yeah I think I remember the Clown pet controversy as well. ;)
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
And this is what you'll look like doing it lol:
