Phase plasma rifle with a 40 watt range?
That was a great story, makes me want to join the TCPD.

A regular weapon with an Energy Augment in the Primary Power Set Augment Socket?
(BTW, my gadgeteers were at the high school in Old Bradford, they have witnesses. ^_^)

Or an energy-set mez power set up with a weapon-based animation. Admittedly, not likely given the rest of the story, unless it is a usable device rather than a "normal" power.
The real question, though, is who killed Aragon, if the Pyrebrands are so inclined to throwing around fire, and the SWAT team had the energy weapons... of course, nothing says they were the only two sets of folks involved, either. Be interesting to hear how Topaz managed to show up at *exactly* the wrong time and place. Assuming he survives, of course.

I wish you guys would cut it out. I'm on record for saying I don't really care about lore updates, but you guys keep posting stuff that I can't help but enjoy.
Yeah, yeah, that question's important, sure, but what I really want to know is whether the description of Hollybriar means there will be a suburban residential zone. I can't remember seeing anything like that in any MMO. I'd love to see hero/villain fighting in back yards amongst swing sets and swimming pools.
Spurn all ye kindle.
dun dun DUUUUUUUUN! :p

But.. but...
... you're suppose to kill off a member each time on the show ... like disposable gloves.

Oh, my Bad.. this is a Comic themed, not TV Show themed lore. Or, Is IT? o.o
Sounds like a possible setup for a new group or two. (As there could either be someone setting it up to look bad for TCPD or someone hiring a third party to do so. Though I suppose it could be to send a message to a former colleague, too.)
That aside, I really liked the tone and quality of writing on this one. It's probably just personal preference, but the cabbie updates always sounded (to me personally at least) like they were trying too hard to sound 'casual' about the info dumps they were delivering and ended up drawing attention to them.
These updates make the view on the scenery seem more natural, I think. It also wisely avoids too much information on each spot.
I just hope the "A hero interfered in our plans" plays out somehow in the game and doesn't end up being a flavor only bit.
City of Heroes had an especially bad example pre release with the Crey, implying one of the clones used a "signature attack" of a hero. Despite the game's lack of so much as customizing the color of your attacks. Nothing close to a signature attack.
I'm glad we'll have something close to that, by the way. Will the idea of interfering with police stings and their work play into the actual stories and gameplay we get though?

Aragon. Bah.
They didn't kill Lenny! Yay! \o/
Good stuff, yo. The description of the drive to the crime scene really made me want to be able to see the city. (I'm such a softy.)

Topaz hit Aragon only because she mentions A powerfully built man in an amber-colored outfit lay beneath it. Kathleen spotted an elaborate, Art Deco-style pistol or ray gun holstered at the man’s hip Aragon being undercover Topaz had no way of knowing

I'd have much rather seen a Wild Cards TV series than a Game of Thrones TV series. ^_^
So, the CSI guys can tell the difference between the burns caused by a Chaser addict and burns from energy guns?

this would be great, even if it was a small zone. :)

Especially if you could swing on the swings and swim in the pools and dive to the bottom :O!

Hey, if they don't want passersby swimming in their pools they should make fences you can't superleap over.
OK, have maybe one in three covered by an invisible force field, with a small sign in the yard: This Home Protected by M&O:AE&G

Hey, the good suburbanites of Titan City shouldn't begrudge a hero doing a little super-skinny diping after a hard day of crimefighting for their safety.
Or a little post-dip swing to air-dry the danglies.
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
Interesting, how he had the time to holster his ray-gun while in the middle of combat, if he previously had it out to take down Aragon...
Remember, kids: always prepare your weapons *before* you need them. There won't be time once you do.

Aragon was dead before negotiations could take place, Topaz was hired by Skullcharred to burst into the warehouse and cause havok as a test to see if Aragon was genuine or no. Something happened to make Aragon to blow his own cover, and Skull killed him. After, Skullcharred fled the scene when they realized Aragon was an Agent, but he left his senior crew there including Topaz to make it look like Aragon had been under heavy guard and died in the fire-fight, and to make it look like Topaz was a hero, not a villian, because only a super-villian would seek flight at that point.
I would twist the dagger a little further on this one, with another thread. Lenny is nervous and he should be, if a hero rolled a perfect search there would be a small scrap of evidence incriminating another cop as an underworld tipster, because his sister was kidnapped by The Black Rose gang and he's been cooperating with them to get her freedom. Lenny knows about this cop directly but this other cop has begged Lenny to be silent on the matter because he fears for his sister's life. Which would lead to a super-story exceptionalism arc, continuing to over excel would keep the hero on the path of this arc but failing at any point drops them down to the regular told story.
Dull paragraph, please rewrite, hint my eyes glazed on the 2nd sentence and it was a force of will to keep reading.
Kathleen continued watching the scenery, such as it was, through the reinforced window. She lived in Hollybriar, which remained suburban despite the development in the rest of Aurora over the past fifty years. She still hadn’t seen much of South Titan, except on rides like this. They moved faster now that they’d left the bridge traffic behind. They navigated past deserted factories and refurbished condos rubbing shoulders uneasily in Clarkstown. Soon, the eclectic, inexpensive buildings and scattered art installations of Highpoint flashed by. Kathleen had nearly moved there rather than Aurora; Highpoint had the reputation of being cheap and fun while still being relatively safe. They passed by a café, and she heard a split second of music from inside.
Of course... threading in multiple story arcs would make it soo much more interesting. The quest could be a little different EACH play thru :) If the hero fails the search check, he sees the reaction from the Chief to be one of suspicion, did the Chief orchastrate all of this? The hero is then going to privately investigate his suspicions and he will find 'coincidental' evidence supporting his theory along the investigation. By the end of it the hero may come to the determination that the Chief was corrupt this entire time, even if the Chief presents evidence to the contrary, it would never be enough to convince the hero otherwise. The arc might end with failing to stop the Black Rose gang from destroying the city and talking to a super-mutant that can send others back in time to try again.

Beautiful. Especially pleased to note that some of the Pyrebrands were slain. It's not that I'm bloodthirsty, I just hate seeing that pseudo-religious zealotry that "we don't kill, we defeat. Incinerate, eviscerate, disintegrate, whatever, the auto-doc will have them up and about in time for their trial. Go. Hunt. Use military grade explosives on purse-snatchers in a public park." I hope the lethality stays consistent. It'd be a shame if a group like Tarot, famed for killing heroes, never actually killed anyone. It would actually be a pretty neat schtick if they killed an established NPC hero every major update, even if having such a "dynamic" cast increased the workload for the writers.
