I dunno if this would be feasable, but wanted to present this idea. Basically what it is, is customizing the costumes by parts. lets say you have regular spandex top and bottom you could do things like customize the sleeves, have them long, short, elbow length, and sleeveless. You could also have different patterns which you could add to your liking and make your own persona design. Say you wanted to add armor to the spandex then you can choose from a variety of different armored plates. Same could go for boots and gloves you could have plain boots and gloves add straps with buckle, laces, armor, or patterns to match the rest of the costume. Like I said it may not be feasable but it is an idea I thought of today.

What are the main differences between this and what CoH had?
Has anyone seen my mind? It was right here...
CoH had it to an extent but not as deep as I am suggesting. Yeah you could add fins and folds to your boots and gloves, but that was about it. Long sleeve tights were long. Sleeveless was different, armored was armored. I am talking about being able to construct it from scratch with a list of options. there were costumes I loved but never used because I couldn't have it the way I chose, cause they were just made that way and couldn't do anything to customize it. Example, there were these padded armored costume pieces that came out when CoV came out that I liked and wished I could remove the sleeves, but couldn't. You couldn't have plain boots and then add the laces or make them buckled boots or even have a combination of both, because the style was already set. Unless something changed after I left in 09 it wasn't feasable

So you just want more choices in the pull down menus? As opposed to having more menus to open and pull down?

I think you might want to go through the various press releases they've made so far. They seem to be planning a lot more customization than CoH had, and it sounded a lot like what you're asking about.

More defined options

At the risk of repeating myself ... what do you mean by that? You statement is insufficiently exclusionary so as to have only a single possible interpretation.

I think what he's talking about is instead of having a choice between a spandex glove and an armored gauntlet, you have
(layer 1)Spandex glove + (option 1)flared cuff + (option 2)finger scales + (option 3)knuckle armor
or
(layer 1) low-heeled boot + (option 1)straps & buckles + (option 2)shin plate
instead of "Motocross boot"
I like the idea of a wider range of customization. But without a lot more resources invested, I have a feeling that it might tend to make things look more homogenous instead of less. Just a feeling.
This pretty much. The ability to construct every part of the costume to your liking.

I would LOVE to be able to have these kinds of choices. 'I love the Steel Boots but not the strap...change the strap and we're good!' As if I didn't spend HOURS in the CC as it was, I would really waste time if I could layer my options like that.
Maybe if we have two choices to start (so we actually HAVE a choice?) and add the rest later?
I remember when Star Wars was cool...a long, long time ago...
If the costume parts are allowed to be layered up like this, there's going to have to be a somewhat ... relaxed ... attitude about some of the inevitable clipping issues that will result.

i think a way to make this work is to have a accessories add on option as in gloves, boots, belts, jewelry, shoulder pads, head gear. so gloves would be add on buckles or straps or lace or feathers or armor or cobwebs or etc....... and so on for the other parts
::nodding:: That's what I was referring to when I said 'more resources.' The flip side is that it would just require much more careful model design so that more parts worked together. (still a resource factor) OTH, with that extra care in design, might it be a way to have more variety with fewer actual pieces?
Example 1:
Base object: Lug soled boot - plain boot, (smooth/spandex texture by default)
- as distinct from: Smooth soled boot/High-Heeled boot, etc
Texture: Shiny patent/Rough Leather/Metallic (etc)
Option 1: Laces
Option 2: Straps with buckles
Option 3: Shin plate tech/Shin plate medieval
Option 4: Knee armor tech/Knee armor medieval
Option 5: Toe cap
Option 6: Toe spikes
I'm presuming that any of these options can be layerd with or without any and all other options.
Somebody else can do the math on how many combinations are possible with just those items.
Question for somebody more versed in how these things are programmed: CoH didn't have terrible problems with items scaling with body size. Is that a big pain?
I would love it if they could pull it off.

I think APB: reloaded and Eve online have great CC, i would love to see something similar, but i know that would be a challenge and would take time to develop.

Wow.. that guy said the company failed?!?
Err yep. The original developers (Realtime Worlds) went into administration back in August 2010. The game was *originally* only up for a few months, you guys thought that we had it bad? This game barely got out of the gates and then it was closed down (initially). (July to September 2010 was its first lifespan.
For a development cost of over $100million, it was sold on for $1.5million.
The game was later *re-released* in December 2011, over a year later.
Now that i saw that, i'm thinking we dont do the same thing and devote 80% or more of our efforts just for the Character Creator. :/
True this stuff can be added later with patches, once the game takes off!
