Sam "Whipcrack" Beckett skidded down the hallway of his apartment, having fun with the new ability he'd come up with. His feet were covered in a thin layer of energy which lowered the friction between his feet and the floor, allowing Sam to glide along like he was wearing skates. It'd taken quite a few tries, and quite a few comical falls, before he'd finally gotten the hang of it. One thing that he had yet to discover was a reliable way to brake his momentum. Until then, this power was not ready for combat use.
It was going to be a big night. He and Sarah "Lady Nova" Holt had been going out for three months and they'd decided to celebrate the occasion with a fancy dinner at one of the nicest restaurants in the city.
He'd just finished in the bathroom and slid into his bedroom, where a new three-piece suit hung on the closet door. He came to a halt by grabbing his dresser and stopped generating the friction field. As he was about to grab the suit off the door, he realized he hadn't put any cologne on. He dashed back into the bathroom and grabbed the type that he thought got the best response from Sarah. He dabbed some onto the insides of his wrists and his neck, then dashed back to the bedroom and slipped the suit on.
Checking the time, he forced himself to slow down and checked his look in the mirror, straightening his tie and smoothing the suit. Once done with that, he slipped on his dress shoes, then snatched his wallet and keys off the dresser. At that moment, his cat strolled into the room and Sam turned to him.
"Whadda ya think, Fig?" he asked the handsome grey and white cat. Fig looked up at him, cocked his head to the side, meowed once, then hopped up on the bed and proceeded to wash his face. Sam smiled. "One meow and a face wash. I must be looking pretty good." he said, grinning.
As he passed the bed, he scratched Fig between the ears and then headed out the door. Once he'd exited the building, he made a beeline for the flower stand down the street. Marisa was expecting him and already had a bouquet of pink lilies and roses prepared. They chatted briefly while making the transaction, then he stepped to the curb and flagged down a taxi. Once inside, he gave the driver Sarah's address and they were off.

Outside of her apartment building, Assistant District Attorney Sarah Holt, or Lady Nova when the situation requires it, stood under a gold-gilded awning near the entrance, purse in hand as she waited. Wearing a dress of sleeveless scarlet silk, her arms would bear two golden bracelets, as her neck shows a simple gold chain necklace, both jewelry pieces showing intricate but as of yet unrevealed symbols.
Her breathtaking image would be complemented by her medium length and wavy caramel hair, resting against her shoulders placidly as she smiles towards the road ahead, appearing ecstatic as Sam's taxi arrives, greeting him with a kiss as she seats herself gently beside him. Grinning, she would muse as she settles...
"I hope you are ready Sam...formality isn't exactly my forte.."

Sam took her hand and gave it a firm squeeze, then leaned in and kissed her gently on the lips, silencing her worries. "I've got it under control, sweets."
He pulled the flowers out from where they'd been concealed by his leg and handed them to her. Then he leaned forward and told the driver where to go.
20 minutes later, they pulled up in front of La Rosa d'Italia, one of the fanciest restaurants in Alexandria. Sam hopped out of the taxi, got around to Sarah's side, and opened her door, offering a hand for her to take. After that, he leaned in the passenger side window and paid the driver. The driver grinned and winked as he took the money from Sam. "You kids have a fun night." he said warmly. Sam thanked him and turned back to Sarah, offering his arm to her.
What neither of the two lovebirds realized is they they were being watched. As they walked into the restaurant, a bulky man in a cheap suit was eyeing them from a black sedan. He took out his smartphone and dialed a number. It picked up midway through the first ring.
"Yeah?"
"Boss, it's Joey. I'm down the street from La Rosa."
"And?"
"An' I just saw that lawyer donna what you want iced. The one that ran Lil' Sal in two months back."
"Oh yeah? That's good work, Joey. You stay and make sure she don't leave. Anyone with her?"
"Jus' some stronzo in a fancy suit."
"Alright, Joey. I'll get a crew and be there soon. You lose that puttana and I cut off your coglioni, capisce?"
Yeah, sure ting, Boss."
Joey hung up the phone and lit another cigarette, his hand shaking a bit.

Taking Sam's hand as she is led out of the taxi, she would smile as he holds his arm out to her, taking it as they enter the restaurant, awaiting Sam's request for the reservations...

"Beckett, party of two?" Sam said to the maître d' as they stepped up to his stand. The maître d' looked at Sam as if he was slightly offended by his presence, then looked over at Sarah and his eyes lit up.
"Ah! Assistant DA Holt. Boungiorno and welcome to our humble ristorante." he said, smiling at her. He snapped his fingers and a waitress hurried over. He whispered something to her in Italian while indicating something on his stand. The waitress scurried off. He smiled at the couple and took two menus and wine lists from the side of his stand. "Right this way, please."
Sam and Sarah followed the maitre d' and he led them to a very nice booth away from the entrance, kitchen, and bathroom. It appeared to be one of the nicest tables in the restaurant. As they approached, the waitress they'd seen earlier was just leaving after having reset the table. The maitre d' neatly set down the menus and took a long-handled match-stick from his jacket. He struck it on something palmed in his other hand, then lit the tall candles on the table.
As he did all that, Sam took Sarah's hand and held it as she sat, then crossed to the other side and sat down. By then the maitre d' was finished and had straightened back up. "Buon appetito. " he told them, smiling warmly. He departed and Sam turned back to Sarah, smiling.
"Happy Anniversary, sweets." he said, reaching across the table to take her hand.

Smiling as she is addressed and led to their table, Sarah would set the flowers gently upon the table near the menu, away from the fire as she sweeps her hair back, squeezing his hand gently back as she answers with equal happiness at Sam's words...
"Happy Anniversary...and Sam you didn't have to do all this for me...your making me blush..."
True to her words, her face would turn a light scarlet, as she quickly shows her gratitude in a kiss...
"Thank you Sam...truly"

Sam was smiling widely as he regaled Sarah with a story from a few years back that involved him, his older cousin, a camping trip up north, and one ridiculously pissed-off, territorial badger.
It had been a perfect evening with incredible company, great food and wine, and terrific atmosphere. The growing love between the two of them was obvious to everyone else at the restaurant. Sam felt warm and contented as he finished his story and looked into Sarah's eyes. He reached across the table and took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. She returned his look and held his hand tightly, no words passing between them. Words weren't necessary to express how they felt about each other.

Smiling, she'd take a curt sip of her wine before addressing him, a plate of chicken Alfredo empty before her as she slides it aside...
"So Sam, how do you enjoy your new job...and what exactly does in entail?"

"Working at P&C is great. It's a lot of fun and we've got a great crew of people. I think we all mesh pretty well. It can be dangerous, but no more dangerous than being Whipcrack." The last two words were whispered with a conspiratorial smile.
"What does it entail... hrrrm... I guess the best way to put it is that we're a repossession and recovery crew that takes the really hard jobs. Y'know, the types of jobs where it's highly likely that we'll run into super-powered individuals. The kind of jobs that ordinary repo men wouldn't be able to handle. We also recover items that have been stolen from their rightful owners."
"How about you, Ms. Big-Shot Assistant DA?" he asked teasingly.
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
She'd smile and laugh at Sam's description of his job, and would smirk at he asks about her's, but answers nonetheless...
"As assistant district attorney, I work as a co-counsel team subordinate to the district attorney, and when he does not personally assign us cases, we work independently as prosecutors, using the information gathered by witnesses and investigators to condemn the accused...gain justice for the victims of their crimes by making sure the perpetrator pays the price accordingly.."
She would squeeze his hand back as she continues quietly...
"Lady Nova captures those who break the law...Sarah Holt makes sure those that have wronged others get what is due...not exactly the safest job but I would never want to do anything else..."

After talking for a while, Sam got up to go to the bathroom. While he was gone, three large men in cheap suits surrounding a smaller man in a very expensive suit entered the restaurant. They walked right past the maître d' stand and on into the restaurant. As the maître d' opened his mouth to object, the man in the center silenced him with a look, his eyes flashing blood-red for the briefest of moments. To make sure the staff behaved themselves, one of the large men stayed at the maître d' stand.
The smaller man and his two remaining flunkies approached Sarah as she sat at the table. The smaller man unbuttoned his suit coat and sat in Sam's seat.
"Well well well, if it isn't Assistant District Attorney Sarah Holt. We haven't met, Ms. Holt. I'm Silvio Brunetti. We haven't met, though I'm sure you've heard of me. But you do know one of my associates. Salvatore Falco? Ah ah, no need to say anything, Ms. Holt. Here's what's going to happen. We're going to get up and calmly leave this restaurant, or my boys are going to kill everyone in here. Capisce?"
At the same time as this one-sided conversation was taking place, Sam was exiting the bathroom. As he started to turn the corner from the bathroom access hallway back into the main restaurant, he spotted the three men with Sarah. He ducked back into the hallway and peeked around the corner. As he looked at Sarah, he could tell that she was pissed. Not sure how she would handle this, Sam didn't want her doing anything that could cause violence to break out in the restaurant.
Looking around quickly, Sam spotted a black marker board that was used to display the daily specials over near the kitchen exit. He waited for the two flunkies to look away from his direction, then snuck over to the kitchen exit. As he passed the specials board, he pulled it off the magnetic strips attaching it to the wall. There was a small linen alcove there at the kitchen door and he ducked into it. He checked on the group at the table and saw the smaller man motion to the door and then pan a finger around the room. Taking a guess as to what he was saying to Sarah, he wrote a message on the board. Once finished, he looked back over to the group and waved at Sarah while the flunkies were scanning the other side of the restaurant. Hoping he got her attention, he held up the board.
GO WITH THEM
LEAVE YOUR PURSE
He held it up for as long as he dared, peeking over it to watch the flunkies. As soon as one started to look back in his direction, he pulled it back into the alcove. The next part was up to Sarah and hinged on if she'd seen his sign or not.

Giving the man a glare that would leave him dead if she possessed heat vision, she would appear to almost say something, before nodding, passing a signal to Sam with her eyes as she stands....she got the message...
Leaving her purse, Sarah would briskly walk outside of the Restaurant with the mafioso's trailing behind her....hopefully she can get them far away enough so that no one is hurt...well...besides them...

Sam watched as she got up, her eyes locking with his for the briefest of seconds and calmly left with the four men. Sam considered it a stroke of luck to have found the linen alcove, as it allowed him to pull off the next part of his plan. The wait staff's uniform's were white button-down shirts, black slacks, and a white apron. After stripping off his suit coat and tie, he put on one of the aprons and was able to pass for one of the wait staff.
He strode quickly over to the booth, snatched up Sarah's purse and headed for the entrance. The maître d' stepped in his way and started to open his mouth, but Sam spoke first. "I have to help her. Here, hold these. I'll be back for them." He handed the maître d' his coat, tie, and credit card. Sam dashed out the entrance and looked up and down the sidewalk, quickly spotting Sarah and the mafioso walking calmly down the street towards two black sedans. He jogged to catch up with them and when he was within twenty yards, began trying to get their attention. "Excuse me, ma'am?! Ma'am!"
All five of them turned at once to look back his way, the three thugs hands going into their coat pockets, but Silvio held up a hand and then motioned for one of the thugs to keep an eye out the other way. Silvio pierced Sam with a cold glare. "Can we help you?"
Sam held up his hands when the thugs hands went into their coat pockets. "Uhmmm, sorry sir. It's just that the lady forgot her purse." Since Sam's hands were up, they could see that he was indeed holding a clutch that matched Sarah's dress.
Silvio nodded and the thugs slipped their hands back out of the coats. "Bruno, fetch the lady's purse and reward the conscientious waiter."
Bruno approached Sam, towering over him by a good foot. Sam gulped and handed him the purse, while Bruno pulled out a small roll of bills and peeled off a hundred, which he held out for Sam to take. Sam took it and pocketed it swiftly. At that moment, the one who had been instructed to keep out a watch, looked back towards the group. "Ain't no one back this... hey! That's the stronzo! The one with her!" he hollered as he saw Sam.
Bruno had made the mistake of looking back when the other one yelled. He whipped back around, just in time to see Sam turn to the side, chamber his leg, and unload a side kick into Bruno's gut. Bruno went flying backwards and slammed into a dumpster, denting it. As the thugs and Silvio were distracted by Bruno flying by, Sam shot out an energy strand that latched onto Sarah. He yanked her into his arms, then leaped straight up and shot another strand down the street. They went swinging over the mafioso's heads and up onto the roof of a building.
"GET 'EM!" yelled Silvio, his eyes now glowing blood red. As the thugs pulled their guns and chased after Sam and Sarah, Silvio began to grow, his body ripping through his suit, the tears exposing rapidly expanding muscles and skin that was turning solid black. Silvio let loose an inhuman roar and took off after Sam, Sarah, and the thugs.

Yelping slightly as she is pulled atop the building, Sarah would take a brief moment to rest, before slamming her bracers together with the force of a semi...
In place of her dress, would be her signature outfit, cascading caramel locks, and glowing, soldering eyes, as she gazed down up the thugs with contempt.
Turning back to Sam with a smile, she would leap from the building with fervor, slamming down onto the pavement with shocking force as she stares down the thugs...uttering five chilling words...
"THAT, would be ill advised!"
With that, she would charge Silvio, greeting him with a cosmic haymaker

When Sam had landed on the rooftop, he'd made sure to touch down where they were out of sight of the thugs. His hope was that in the chaos, they wouldn't put two and two together.
As Sarah made the change to Lady Nova, he manifested his psychokinetic field, which then snapped into the form of Whipcrack's armor. He returned her smile, then leaped off the building just after her. While she plunged down to impact the pavement, he shot out an energy strand which latched onto another building. He swung gracefully right over the heads over the thugs. They pivoted and fired on him, but the small caliber bullets ricocheted off his armor. Doing a flip, he landed in a crouch on the horizontal bar of a street lamp. He watched as Lady Nova went to town on the mob boss, who'd changed into some kind of raging berzerker. The two thugs continued to fire at him, to no effect.
Whipcrack looked over his shoulder at the thugs. "Hey, do you mind? I'm trying to take in a show and you two are being way too loud."
The thugs responded by reloading.
"Guess that's a no, then?" Whipcrack asked, turning around to look at them. He vaulted off the street lamp and came down on top of the first thug, grabbing him by the shoulders and doing a handstand. He continued his movement and they flipped end for end, the thug flying into the air upside-down. Whipcrack let go and the thug was sent flying down the street. He shot out a strand and grabbed the thug, yanking him back. As the thug flew towards him, Whipcrack unloaded a punch directly to the thugs chin. His momentum halted, the thug dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes.
Whipcrack turned to face the other thug, the one who'd recognized him as Sarah's date. He flicked his hands and two flexible energy strands flew out like bullwhips. The latched onto Joey's ankles and Whipcrack yanked on them, flipping Joey over and throwing him into the air. He flicked his hands again and lengthened the strands. They latched onto the street lamp's bar, then he broke their connection to him. This left Joey swinging, upside-down, from the street lamp. he flicked out a strand which caught the first thug and dragged him over to the street lamp, then secured him to it.
Whipcrack then turned to see how Lady Nova was doing against the berzerking mob boss.

Lady Nova would be trading vicinity-shaking blows with the boss, appearing to use the french kickboxing style known as Savate as she holds her own against the leader, before rapididly finishing her combo of devastating kicks with a sweep kick, knee to the crotch, before uppercutting the boss, hopefully knocking him out cold...

Silvio flew across the T-intersection and smashed into a parked car, nearly folding it completely around himself. After just a few seconds, he pulled himself free of the wreckage, tearing the car in two in the process. He stood up and glared at Lady Nova, his eyes flashing. "Not bad. My. Turn."
Silvio charged across the intersection and slammed into her, hitting her with a two-fisted hammer blow to the ribs. The impact blasted her into the side of a building, smashing through the wall and several pieces of heavy equipment behind it. The berzerker waited for a few seconds, then turned, just in time to catch a blow from Whipcrack that spun him around. Silvio used the momentum to complete a full 360 spin and belted Whipcrack in the face with a massive backhand that sent him flying as well.
Silvio leapt after him and grabbed him up, his enormous fist wrapping around the entire upper half of his head. The berzerker picked him up and slammed him into a wall three times, then pulled him in close. "Where's the lawyer?"
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
Shifting the rubble off of herself with a pained groan, Sarah would slowly stand to her feet as she begins to assess the situation around her, before spotting Silvio with Sam in his grasp, watching with horror as he is slammed against a wall...
Not Sam...
NOT HER SAM!!
Shouting with fervor, she would address Silvio...
"Right here!"
With that, she would streak towards Silvio with frightening speed, before condensing the energy of her shield, flight, speed, and entire reserves into one. single. punch

The impact of her fist produced a shockwave that ripped Whipcrack from Silvio's hand and propelled him through the wall that Silvio had been smashing him into. He crashed through five drywall partitions and tumbled to a halt in the middle of the expansive warehouse. Groaning, he decided to just lay there for a few moments.
Silvio was rocketed skyward by Lady Nova's earth-shattering uppercut. He flew up and up, his parabolic arc finally coming to it's apex a few thousand feet above the harbor. Silvio came to as he was falling. Wondering what'd happened, he had just enough time to realize he was falling before he crashed through the roof of Processing at Hardlock Prison. The stasis shield turrets immediately swiveled around and locked him down, the force bubble floating him into the air. At about that time, he shivered and began to shrink, the massive muscles and black skin receding to reveal his human form once again.
Guard Captain O'Connelly walked over and smiled, tapping on the stasis shield with his shock baton.
"Well well well, if it ain't my old pal Silvio Brunetti. How ya doin' there, Silvio? Welcome back to Hardlock. Let's go." he said, grinning.

Not waiting to see the results of her punch on Silvio, Sarah rushed inside the warehouse were Sam lay injured, shoving spare pieces of debris off of him as she began to cradle him, urging him to wake up as she repeats, heartbroken...
"Sam...come on, WAKE UP....!"

"Im'wake... " Sam muttered, his grey eyes opening slowly. It took his eyes a few seconds to focus on Sarah, but when they did, he smiled. Thought it hurt, he reached up and wrapped his arms around Sarah, pulling her in close for a warm, slow kiss.
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
Taking a moment to enjoy the kiss, she would eventually cease, smiling at him as she sighs in relief, looking down at her now bruised hand, and torn gloves...
"Don't scare me like that again....and I believe it's fair to assume that continuing to date me is becoming a work hazard..."

Sam sat up slowly and smiled over at her. "If that's the case, then where do I file for hazard pay?"
He stood up and then reached down and took Sarah's hand, pulling her to her feet. Making sure his armor was active, he walked back through the destruction his passage had caused and emerged onto the street. He was not surprised to find that the thug he'd restrained was gone. "Huh. I guess nearly getting knocked out causes any... constructs I create to fade."
Bruno, who he'd kicked into the dumpster, and the one he'd decked were still there. But that was because neither of then had yet to regain consciousness. At that moment, an engine down the street roared to life and a black sedan squealed its tires and took off, heading in their direction. Whipcrack strode boldly into the center of the street and raised a hand, making the stop gesture. In response, the driver punched it and pointed the car directly at Whipcrack.
Whipcrack took up a position like a matador and created a cape out of energy, waving it theatrically. Just as the car was about to hit him, he easily spun out of the way. The cape in his hands disappeared and was replaced by two strands. He flicked his hands and the strands shot out, flying underneath the back of the car and latching onto its rear axle. He flicked his hands again and shot the ends of the strands into the concrete. The strands grew taut, violently introducing the car and its occupant to Newton's First Law.
With an abrupt screech of tearing metal, the rear axle and wheels were ripped out from underneath the car. The body of the car continued sliding forward for fifty more yards, trailing sparks and hydraulic fluid. After it stopped, the driver managed to get the door open and stumbled from the car, his face bruised and burned from the airbag. He raised his pistol unsteadily towards the heroes, then passed out, doing a faceplant into the pavement.
"That's gonna leave a mark." Whipcrack quipped. He looked over at Sarah. "The one I kicked into the dumpster should still have your purse. I need to get my jacket and credit card from the restaurant and let them know were alright. TCPD should be here at any moment."

Sarah would trade Sam a quick kiss, nodding, before rushing over to the incapacitated thug who snagged her handbag, retrieving it swiftly, before suddenly roundhouse kicking a mafiaso who managed to recover behind her, returning him to unconsciousness just as quickly as he left it, briskly walking past Sam with a wink towards the restaurant, musing just before reaching the door...
"You missed one!"
With that, she would walk inside, appearing as beautiful and graceful as ever...

Just a few seconds after Sarah walked in, Sam followed her. He bundled up the apron he'd "borrowed" and thanked the maître d', who gave him a questioning look. Sam returned the look with a vague smile and further interaction between them was prevented as the TCPD came pouring into the building.
Since the maître d' had reported that it was an ADA who was in trouble, the TCPD had shown up in force. Six squad cars and SWAT van arrived over the next five minutes, expecting a hostage situation or some other dire situation, only to find out that some heroes had made a timely intervention. The officers gathered up Bruno, Joey, and the other thug and toted them off to the station. The last officer there, a TCPD lieutenant, asked Sam and Sarah to come down to the station when they could to take care of necessary paperwork.
Once the cops were gone, the maître d' had apologized profusely for the ADA's interrupted dinner, giving them free desserts and a hefty discount. The final bill, with tax, had come to just over eighty dollars. Doing a bit of quick math in his head for the tip, Sam smiled widely and extracted a $100-dollar bill from his pocket. He handed it to their waitress and told her to keep the change.
As they walked out of the restaurant, Sarah's arm in Sam's, he grinned over at her. "When we get to the station, I'll have to make sure to thank our good buddy Bruno for footing the dinner bill, won't I?"
The next several hours swept by as Sam and Sarah gave testimonies and identified the thugs. When Sarah gave the lieutenant leading the investigation the name of the mob boss, Silvio Brunetti, the captain smiled and chuckled. When Sarah and Sam both looked at him quizzically, he explained how Silvio had landed in the Processing Center of Hardlock Prison, still 'juiced'. Sarah identified him via holographic line-up.
Once all that was done, they walked across the street to a park and stood in front of a fountain. Sam wrapped a gentle arm around her waist and she settled her head on his shoulder.
"I think we should do that every anniversary. Whadda ya say?" Sam asked her facetiously.

She'd laugh at his suggestion, playfully punching his arm before snuggling with him closer, a mirror image of them appearing in golden energy within the water of the fountain as she does so...
"Not a bad idea....does that mean you'll keep dealing with all my less than adoring fans...?"

Sam dropped his voice into a dead-on John Wayne impression. "Well... a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, pilgrum."
He turned his head and kissed the top of hers. "You ready to head home?"

Laughing at his impression, she would nod at his question, waking and conversing with him a while before hailing a cab with an surprising whistle. After finally arriving at her apartment building, she allows him to walk her upstairs before reaching her room. Turning to him, she would offer him a quick kiss before thanking him...
"Thank you for all of this Sam, this night...it wasn't ideal, it was perfect..."
She would take a second to open her door, offering him a choice before smiling, slipping off inside...
"Coming or not, Sam?"

Sam grinned and slipped inside her apartment, closing the door gently behind him.

High above the abode of the newfound lovers, and their planet, a cold and mocking laugh would echo through the halls of a cloaked Huntress's ship, as smoldering and malicious golden eyes watch a projected scene before her, depicting the many heartwarming antics of Lady Nova and Whipcrack....well, not to all. Lifting a flame tipped broadsword into the late, the women, known only to her victims and her employers as the Iron Huntress has watched her current target carefully, planning a moment to strike...
"So, 'Lady Nova' is not alone, she has a...'mate'"
She would chuckle once more, before musing...
"Good, now there will be someone to watch as a rip the Cosmic Heart from the very bones of her body...live entertainment!"
