Creative Challenge: You live in the LOTR. Who are you?

The time line is three years after the Hobbit. Bilbo is back in the Shire and will stay there for 60 years keeping the ring out of sight. so this is a time of relative peace.

Build a life for yourself:

Remember wizards are a separate race, only they have true Magic. Human magic is much weaker. Elves have stronger magic (but nothing close to Wizardly power), Dwarven magic is built into items of power. Little is known about the magic of Mordor as it has been thousands of years since that nation fell.

Name: Morgan Vinter
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Appearance: Morgan is a young handsome man. He has dark brown hair with a white streak at one temple, He is clean shaven, has brown eyes, and cuts a dashing figure. He prefers to wear burgundy tunics and dark pants, but when adventuring, he prefers his suit of half plate armor.

Skills/Abilities/Powers:
Mechant, Caravan guard, Speaks Elven fluently, and Dwarvish fairly well. Knows a bit of magic.
Herbologist: can identify edible and medical plants. Woodsman, Hunter. reads and writes common, elvish and dwarven.
skilled with the blade and the bow.

Magic Elvish: The first two were taught to him by the wood elves
Orb of Light: a small ball of light appears above and behind one's head. It sheds light in a 30' radius. It will last for 4 hours but can be renewed with a moment's concentration. It can be moved with another moment of concentration.
Bear fruit: a plant will bear its natural fruit with this spell. Effects a 3 foot diameter area.
Detect Magic: Morgan was never supposed to know this, but (as a child) wandered in restricted section of an elvish library and opened a book of magic. The elves caught him and took the book away, but not before this one spell was indelibly printed on his mind. They were pleased little Morgan hadn't burned out his brain, but when he started pointing to enchanted items, the elves realized something was special about the child. They have kept an eye on him ever since.

Willing to adventure?: Yes!

Personality: Morgan is a young man who gets along with pretty much everyone. He is quick to smile and loves life. He loves to travel and collect odd things. Be has a second basement where he keeps his growing collection on display, but only family and close friends have seen it. Finding (and looting) old ruins is a passion for him, although he is often frustrated because he cannot read the inscriptions.

History: Morgan Vinter was born to a Laketown family that traded wine to the elves. The family claims they have a wizard's blood in their line. As a young child he traveled with his father's caravans to the woodland realm. The elves delighted to see a child who could speak elvish so fluently. as a child, Morgan accidentally opened an elvish book of magic, learning a spell (see above). The elves were concerned but there were no harmful effects

Morgan was an adventurous lad, often sneaking into the ruined city of Dale to find long abandoned things. This started his lifelong obsession with collecting artifacts. After the battle of five armies he shamelessly looted the best orc weapons, shield and helms, he even found a few elven weapons left behind. He keeps all of these in his sub basement today, in near museum quality condition. Magic orcish weapons he keeps under lock and key = they have an unwholesome feel.

Most of his family and their vineyards survived the dragon attack as they lived on their farms. The family survived and continues to trade with elves today. The Vinter family also trades with the Shire buying the halfling's pipe weed because the dwarves love it so. The Vinters have an experimental farm growing the leaf themselves.

Morgan was just 16 during the battle of five armies and fought well. At 19, he is earning a lot of attention from the ladies, but he isn't willing to settle down for another few years yet.

Morgan has had a successful career looting old ruins and even encountered a wight once. He narrowly escaped and earned a lock of white hair for his effort. Today, Morgan maintains a very nice home in Dale. Its back wall is actually the city wall. He purchased the house and discovered a secret sub basement that remains secret to this day.

The Undead
Orcish/Mordor magic (it give him the creeps, he will take it though to keep it out of the wrong hands)
Giant Spiders, I mean -giant- spiders. They creep him out, he swears he heard one talking once!
tax collectors (there is a reason he keeps his collection a secret)

Possessions of note: Dwarvish crafted half plate (purchased from Dwarves under the Mountain.), a token denoting him as an elf-friend (all his family has one), and elvish longsword (found in a ruin - glows too). He also has magic boots but he has no idea what they do (but when he wears them his feet never get sore or tired and he never gets dirty).

My lazy unfit butt ain't fit for middle earth.

Edit: I mean maybe as a hobbit. No adventuring hobbit. Just a normal boring hobbit trying to get by doing as little as possible.

Probably J. Random Blacksmith

Probably J. Random Blacksmith, banging out horseshoes in West Bumble, Dunland, until Saruman came calling, then I’d hightail it for Gondor.

Honestly I like how pretty

Honestly I like how pretty much everyone is pretty mundane thus far. 99% of residents in any fictional setting are just normal folks trying to get by.

For most the events of the Hobbit passed completely unnoticed. The events of LotR had further reaching consequences. But I'm sure for a great many they'd just hear about it several months after events.

I'd definitely be an elf. I'd

I'd definitely be an elf. I'd like to be researching how our ancestors once communed with the Valar, study interactions with the Maiar (wizards and other sort of demi-Vala), interpret the motivations of the great enemies stemming from Morgoth Bauglir, and practice elf magics and other awesome abilities.

Or I'd be a wizard, of course.
Or I'd be a Vala, top choice! I'll sit atop Taniquetl with Varda and ruminate over Eru, Arda, Melkor, the fate of Men, and the badassery of Fingolfin, Fingon, Finrod Felagund, Elu Thingol, Melian, and Thorondor.

Sorry, but I'm 3/4 through The Silmarillion. It is fantastic! I so highly recommend it to anyone - it's not nearly as incomprehensible as it may seem. Very readable, with a flowing story and comprehensive index for names/places in the back - and a map on the back page to place wherever the characters are. It significantly enhances the whole LotR experience!

The Silmarillion - the Bible.

The Silmarillion - the Bible.

Everybody has like six names and the begats take up whole chapters.

It's also pretty awesome.

Be Well!

I don't know LotR too well, but I'd probably be a human that left to go drink with the dwarves in their mountains.

That would probably make me

That would probably make me the passerby.

Ah but where from and where to does the passerby come and go?

Frankly, I'll need to do more research, but it'll probably have something to do with being the last of the elves to leave his homeland. Not because he was set to be the last one, given some heroic or thoughtful task. Just because no one particularly liked him and he was as much of a loaf as an elf could be and just didn't bother to pack up with everyone else. He probably went for a walk for a couple days. Found a nice fruit tree took a snack and a nap followed a steam and had a dream. But when he came home he was all alone his neighbors had all made tracks.

(I know elves don't make tracks, but I needed the rhyme...it's terrible. Deal with it.)
