really sharp with a mechanical pencil and then softbrushing the lines and
adding a tint of color and I found an effect that made me happy.

DD and CR, thanks for the input. I may give it all a try and see how it feels. at this point, given untried, I am a bit skeptical and to be really honest I have been doing it the way I have for years. given I am a relatively old dog, not sure if I can learn this new 'trick' but I will give it a go. doubtful I will do the tinting thing you mentioned CR but may try the other part. the only concern I have offhand is regarding coloring and preventing the various colored 'line' blocks from creating artifacts...unless of course I just make it a completely separate layer (there goes my quickie bucket fill...lol ah well, I will see how it goes this weekend as I have a piece in mind that I want/need to do for someone.
again, thank you for the tips and critiques...very much appreciated and I will give em a go and see what happens. :)

prefer tools with more finesse. One gap in the lines and it colors everything on the page.

I wasn't advocating for anyone else to use it. It doesn't really work for collabs anyway,
it's more of a quick way to dress up plain old B&W pencils.

Had a bit of free time to play, so I just had some fun with DarkAvia.
Added some shades of color to some of the flats.
Reworked some of the circles on the speakers to be more round.
And kinda played off of the name title in the pic by adding a 2nd image of the toon. Giving it that sorta Sister Psyche feel but a little troubled.

Well, if I were going to criticize anything (which I'm Not!), I would note that the wings on her headband are... made of Nerf, or something. *grin*
I am continually amazed at how well DD captured her 'real face'.

However, the original CoH 'Headband-Wings' did make the wings portion slightly too large for even a woman as tall/large as Signe. DDs drawing got them into a more manageable size, but they don't appear to made of feathers or metal...
If someone wanted to tweak that part, it might be an interesting challenge.

CR: That's a good question, and not one I've considered before.
I think, just as a first answer, metal 'jewelry' in the shape of a feathered wing. A crown, tiara, or demi-helm, it might be some form of 'magical' item. The headband section is not a delicate thing, but I could see the Wings as a progression from solid to.. light... So, metal and metallic feathers? Possibly blue stones?
Alternately, they might, indeed be feathered wings from some semi-mythical bird. My alternate 'highlight' color, there, is the same deep indigo blue used in the rest of her outfit, and hair. I can never seem to get everything 'perfect', due to limitations in the Dev's imaginations. *grin*
Signe, herself would have as much as 5,000, or even more, years of personal experience. This part of her 'regalia' might once have been nothing but a leather strap with some leftover bird-wings attached. Meanwhile Signe and her tribe-members would wear leather and furs and primitive cloth. As their wealth and technology improved, so would Signe's outfit.
In other games, I've played Signe in everything from a basic fur-kini through elaborate full-plate armor. I usually have to hide any headgear, because it covers her Hair. I don't know, just something atavistic and powerful about those full, flowing, wavy locks.
In 'modern' times, in super-hero games, I've always thought she would wear a mix of technologies, from cutting-edge ballistic materials, to plain cotton, leather, silk, and metals, all reinforced by mystic powers.
I know, LOTS more information than you asked for. Bearing in mind that every part of Signe's costume is Functional, on some level, just let your imagination and art run wild.
