Being able to create channels and make them public or private has always been nice. But there's just one small thing that bugged me. Maybe no one else ran into this problem or it didn't really bother them. So maybe this isn't a real suggestion. But in CO, I owned 2 SGs. JG and JGA. We had a channel channel set up so that all members could communicate when not in any of those SG. Which was nice. But if I was in the JG SG I couldn't watch the JGA SG chat channel. It would be nice if, since I was the owner of both SGs, I had access to watch both SG channels regardless which toon I was using at the time.

With our groups, the SG channel was understood to specifically be for IC SG chat, which only characters in the SG would use. We had a private global channel for OOC conversation (and another for IC RP cross-SG) which people could see no matter which alt they were on as. If something interesting started up in the SG channel, it would get mentioned on the OOC channel and people could switch if they wanted to join in.
More so that just this, special attention should be given to the entire chat interface. IMO, it's the one killer feature that totally destroyed ALL other MMO's. The chat system in CoX was pretty much perfect and should be replicated as much as possible.
Some ideas have been tossed about in this thread.

Meh, I preferred the Eve Online chat interface, but I think that is because when I was introduced to it, it had more features than the CoX chat did (at least EU side... we didn't get Global Chat inplace until a few months *after* the US side)...
One thing that i feel it did right was that you *could* split apart all the chat channels/tabs and they could each have their own chat entry boxes.
I agree the chat channel in CoH is still the best I have ever used separate channel creation ,special channels only ur friends had, sg channels, certain tf channels, badge channels there was everything my only point of contension was u could only be in I think it was 12 or 15 channels max
I do miss CoH's chat channels. It's extremely sad that most of these new multi-million dollar MMOs don't have chat systems even close to being as good as what MUSHes had like back in the 1990s.
User-created channels, with the ability to have the channel owner and moderators. The ability to Mute specific players, or, if need be, kick them. Also, as someone said, Coalition channel on CoH was just short of the mark, due to not being able to see Supergroup C's chat if they were in a coalition with Supergroup B, while you were in Supergroup A and coalitioned with Supergroup B.
I also liked that the CoH channels told you who was on them.
Would also be nice to get a pop up notice if you get invited into a channel. In CO I sent out all these invites to my sisters for our new channel and like 80 of them never saw the invite cause apparently i guess you don't get any notice of being invited into the new channel.

I totally agree with this
