So I have searched, and searched for upfront costs and monthly costs. Best I've found was a projected (but most definitely subject to change) $50 for the box and $15 a month. That was from MMORPG (dot com) and I have no clue where they got those numbers or if it is just industry standard (so why not?).
But while doing this I noticed two things:
*No release date, because who wants to try to meet THAT deadline?
*And the end date for CoH was November 30, 2012.
I don't want the gang to confirm it, but I sincerely hope that's your goal. I REALLY hope you do it. It's a nice way to say, "Thanks, but we'll take it from here." without directly address our old home.
Also, thank you. I apologize for not having the faith to join at the Kickstarter (I was also dealing with some stuff). But as soon as your shop opens, I'll have it prepurchased and ready to fly from the first second I'm able.
That'd be a pretty neat bit of development. I'd like it to happen.
That's not to say that I think it will, however - I fully suspect that CoT is going to have the issue of being delayed somewhat before the final product can actually be released to the public, as is what happens with most games these days. But hey, if it happens... well, it'd be a nice little moment.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
The CharGen hopefully will be out by the end of this year and then things will really kick up a notch with the following kick starter 2nd chance.
I am really pumped for this!

Thanks to a co-worker, I finally have a laptop that's an actual game machine, as opposed to my previous ones, which had been meant more for office-type work (all I could afford). So, with my finally being ready, the successors may now be rolled out, and I will be happy to test-drive them!
That IS food for thought...
Latest news on CoT release thus far . . .I hope I traveled back in time for the right info......But as heard from the development team, CoT 'BETA' testing will be launching sometime in November or late December. This information can't be released on "how I know", because it is utmost importance. *winks*
is that Beta, or the Chargen release date?

Either one, released at 12:01 am on December 1, would be amazing. There would be LOTS of feelz, I'm sure.

I'm in favor of November 30th release date if that's the day CoH closed.
However that puts it a solid year away :(

Really, launch roughly a year after Issue 0 sounds about the shortest plausible time frame to me. Someone told me they heard whispers that launch could be as far as 2020, and Nov 2019 is almost 2020. We all want the Avatar Builder, but there's a lot more to complete "the game" afterwards.
Unless they are holding a lot of cards up their sleeve with reference to the rest of the game outside of the chargen, I'd say 2019 release is at best wishful thinking. This isn't pessimism, it's realism. I have no doubt once the game is actually released it will be awesome...but the time it takes to get there from a volunteer, part-time team is the real question. Even if they make more money from the 2nd Chance than the initial Kickstarter they could only hire so many people across all the different areas, and I doubt even that would be enough to move the timeline needle a noticeable amount.
Also, from marketing's standpoint, you know they have a road map to launch. They would hopefully set a date when they have the confidence and that would probably be at least a year in advance...kind of how they announced 'FALL 2018' years ago. So I'd say it might be safe to speculate on alpha/beta at some point in 2019, but not Issue #1. I can only hope to be proven wrong, but only time will tell.

Kinda sad to think of being stuck with the Chargen for a year or so....it's going to get old eventually with no playground to smash baddies in :/

My understanding is that it's not Issue 0 and then a year later a big patch to Issue 1. We'll have patches along the way as they add in the systems. As an example, Issue 0 is Char gen, 0.1 adds NPCs, 0.2 add travel powers, 0.3 adds enemies and combat, 0.4 is the proper xp and leveling system, etc.
That seems...wrong. I can't see them adding most things during Issue #0 outside of beta/alpha. I don't think Issue #0 would ever have enemies without xp/leveling or fx animations or power sets, etc. I think those all will be added at once; though they might be added to a small population for testing purposes.
I think issue #0 is going to be isolated to an area (which may expand over the life of Issue #0?) with not much else. We'll be able to run around, sure...but it doesn't make sense for them to add in combat or travel powers or anything else in Issue #0. They might patch in those modules to test, but I doubt they'd open them up to everyone that has access to Issue #0. After all, they have to give us the whole game...but deny us access to all the modules besides the chargen since they aren't completed/ready.
At least, that is my understanding.

Yeah that'd be a way better way to do things. And to test one system at a time so that'll probably be the case

It has been stated multiple times that we will not just get the CharGen. We get everything! When we begin the beta process, we will gain access to new portions of the game to test.
Issue #0 starts with the CharGen (AB) with a small area to run around in and maybe chat.
Issue #0.1 will have . . .
Issue #0.2 . . . .
etc, etc.
Again, I don't think this is right. Unless I'm missing something it just doesn't make sense. And WE don't get everything with the game. The "whole game" might legally have to be there but they don't have to give us access to it. What would be the point of dropping in the NPC module if we can't do missions or even get to the mission sight...if that mission is even ready? Unless I am corrected by a dev, it just doesn't make sense to open each module to us as they finish it.
Yes, give us a chargen to play with and a chat zone...those are relatively easy compared to the full game. They might, over the life of Issue #0 (pre-Issue #1), open up a little more of the map or give access to very, very limited combat mission with predetermined roles/abilities/etc, but they aren't going to just open up each module as they are done. That would be chaos, especially considering we don't know which modules will be done at what time. What happens if their enemies/NPC's module is done next? We hop in the chat zone with a bunch of enemies we can't fight because the combat module isn't done?
That would be horrific for the game's image.

I think you are missing something here DC. Those of us who are getting access to the AB are going to be Beta Testing! We will continue to test until Issue #1.
We start with the AB, then environment, then powers. It Is All Beta Testing until the games goes gold with Issue #1.
The testers will start with the KS contributors and grow from there.
Can you link where the devs have said they are going to be opening up each module as they are finished to everyone that has access to Issue #0?
They have said the KS backers will have access first...but it's basically simultaneous with everyone else that donates enough during the 2nd Chance. So KS backers might have access for a week or two before everyone else. And there is no limit to how many people can donate and get access to Issue #0 so I highly doubt they would open up each module as they are finished.
I don't think they've given much information on how their alpha/beta is going to work with regards to Issue #0 that anyone who donates gets access to.

That what i understand as well from this message from the public relation people. Specifically here : "Our first release will be Issue #0 and will include the Avatar Builder and some other features as mentioned by Doctor Tyche and Warcabbit above. Then as we add more features we will be releasing more increments until we are ready for the full release of issue #1, which may be next year or maybe even later."

I don't understand that as saying what you think. That doesn't say they are going to release all the modules of gameplay, just that they are going to release some features. My guess is that means more chargen stuff and maybe some fun things to do in a chat zone. If they were going to release all the modules during Issue #0, what would Issue #1 be?
The months leading up to Issue #1 release we might have the full-game in alpha, closed to everyone but those invited to participate, but I don't think it's going to be the full-game. Again, I can only hope I'm proven wrong it just doesn't make sense for them to make available things like leveling, combat, fx animations, etc, in a chat zone. Maybe travel powers for fun and maybe a few badges if we run around the entire chat zone.

My assumption, just based on what I've read from MWM, and an understanding of general practices of game development, is that Issue #0 will be both the alpha test and the beta. Issue #1 will be the full release. We will go from broken, incomplete and buggy content (though hopefully still polished enough to be fun, if not strictly "playable") to feature complete but still problematic and unbalanced. Once we hit "feature complete" (which doesn't mean that there won't still be features to be added later; only that all of the main features exist and mostly work) then we'll be in beta, but still Issue #0.
Issue #0 is for the people who've been with this game from the very beginning, and for those who are still willing to put money down based on trust, rather than as a transaction; This for that. Issue #1 will be the full, polished release, intended for people who want to pay for a product, not a promise.

Errant, TNT, Vibrant and Fluxion on Liberty
Official launch with all intended content and features available perhaps.
You're most likely right on that but there is a big difference between running the full game and running a beta with all features enabled. That is what you seem to be "missing". Personally I just don't see them only releasing the CharGen and not any of the other base systems, like powers and combat, for us to test and play with during #0.
There will be some changes for #1, at least the inclusion of the tutorial mission and the starting location, so why not some bigger changes like the location of some NPC's and combatants?
It could be nice to define what is a "entire game' ^^
For me, Issue #1 will contain all the basic functionnalities of the game and some zones, enought to go through 30 levels. "Everything" (of that) will be released, tested, during Issue #0
Other issues will bring their upgrades.? Maybe some zones, maybe some technical improvments, maybe some lore or some new functionnality like Headquarters.
Don't forget that some stuff are already "in" UE4 and didn't claim too much work to be functionnal, like the map maybe ou the adventures entries

This is the thing, Issue #0 is the beta release of the game. Its first iteration will be the AB with chat and possibly a small area to run around in.
As UE4 can now be made in the form of modules, each Dev Team (composition, powers, power graphics, maps, costumes, etc) can release modules for the beta as they are ready. Hence, why I was saying Issue #0.1, 0.2, 0.3, etc.
When the Dev Team is happy with the beta progress and we (Devs and Testers) are in relative agreement, they will announce the release of Issue #1. The Living, Breathing World of City of Titans.
The Beta will grow in both complexity and tester population from #0 to #1. Cross our collective fingers and pray the Beta takes no longer than a year, because well, those of us who came here from another world would find that so appropriate and fitting.
The release date just can't be December 7th or for a few days afterwards. I need time for Smash Brothers....
Its still over a year off from anything other than CharGen so you have plenty of Smash time lol

You greatly underestimate the amount of time I can spend in a character creator. I spent about a week in the X-com 2 propaganda creator and it's character options are pretty limited. Let alone the full char-gen potential of this game, and eating the popcorn watching people spawn into the chat zone with all their costumes.

I don't wanna hear about your smash time :p

Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow but I hope you are in good health, Monk.
Who knows how many more years the team can do this without being paid, but KS funds wont last too much longer, maybe another 2 ish years as it stands. So either the 2nd chance meets the team's goal and allows them to launch within the next 2 or 3 years or they are dead in the water. If they are still planning on hiring full-time staff from the 2nd chance then that won't really extend their 'launch-by-or-die' date as those funds will be eaten up pretty quick. I'm holding out faith that they do end up being wildly successful, though. Either way we'll have some kind of idea with how Issue #0 release is received.

Hey, like any good superhero comic or movie, there has to be a seemingly hopless defeat before the heroes rise again to save the day. It's one of the essential elements of good melodrama! Disney knows--just look at Infinity War/Endgame.
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
