Pick a hero or a villain from comic book lore and estimate guess where he, she or it lands on the City of Heroes 3-axis alignment system.
According to Kickstarter Update #17, the three alignments are:
- Violent
- Lawful
- Honorable
So give your score in terms of -10 to 10, with zero being neither one way nor another on that alignment scale.
Let me start with:
Magneto
- Violent: +5 he uses violence to achieve his ends, but the violence is not an ends to itself.
- Lawful: -7 he has little regard for laws, especially those that discriminate against mutants
- Honorable: +7 Magneto has an agenda, he has friends and it pains him to betray them and those who follow him. He respects his enemies and will keep his word.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
I'm actually very surprised this hasn't had any responses.
I would think that an investigation into how to apply the three-axis alignment system would be something the future playerbase would want to partake. What makes a hero? An anti-hero? a villain?
So let me ask you, future players, if you have a future character in mind, what would your character's alignment be on the three-axis system?

While I've read the OP, I haven't replied because, well, I'm actually not all that familiar with comic book IPs. Despite playing CoX for many years, I can't really say that I know any comic superheros well enough that I could offer a breakdown of their character alignment.
As for my own potential characters, I don't really have any fully planned out in advance. I'll mostly just wing it based on what's available, at least until I'm relatively comfortable with/knowledgeable about the system. Then I might plan something out in advance.
For the first few times though, I'll probably just let my character's alignment develop organically as it is wont to do.
I'll throw out a few suggestions/examples. It goes without saying that these are just my opinions and I'm perfectly willing to entertain shifting these numbers around if anyone makes a good case for why they ought to be changed:
Batman

Violent: +6 (He's a "preparation" hero but he usually resorts to gritty hand-to-hand combat)

Lawful: -1 (He's big on bringing criminals to justice but he bends a bunch of rules as a vigilante)

Honorable: +7 (He's big on his personal code and dedication (obsession?) to defeat villains)
Iron Man

Violent: -2 (He's fights bad guys when needed but he's not really in it for the love of fighting)

Lawful: +4 (He knows right from wrong and sticks to the bigger rules for the most part)

Honorable: +3 (He's a bit of a rogue/playboy but he can be counted on for important stuff)
Wonder Woman

Violent: +2 (She's a disciplined warrior and fights when there's no better alternative)

Lawful: +7 (She stands against injustice in all forms and is a champion of the innocent)

Honorable: +9 (She's a paragon of virtue and is a woman of her word)
As far as my own characters go I'll likely have examples that'll span the extremes of all three alignment axes. Like OathboundOne said I don't think I'll specifically try to make my characters be of any specific value alignment wise unless there ends up being direct in-game effects for being/maintaining certain values. For example if there's a certain bonus/benefit I'd want to have and you can only get it for having a Lawful value of 8, 9 or 10 then I might make it a priority to get to 8 or more on a particular character or two. Regardless I won't bother to make all my characters identical alignment wise - I want to experience all the different facets of pros and cons the game offers in this area.

Yes I hope this works as the above, though from what i understand most if not all affects will come from "missions" rather than in-game small actions.
It's probably too early to guess exactly how many ways the game will allow us to shift our alignments one way or the other. While it's likely that most major shifting will be accomplished via missions I'd hope there will be other ways that might allow for minor tweaking.
For example let's say you're flying around and you see the proverbial "cat stuck in a tree" and you decide to save the cat and return it to the little kid standing next to the tree crying for his/her pet. Sure that whole action might only take all of 10 seconds and only be worth like a 0.001 positive point shift of Honor but it should still be something that's doable if you're so inclined. Hopefully the game will come with a number of little micro-tasks like that which'll let players adjust their alignments in any direction at any time.
