While it took a while to take off (much like a certain other Whedon series that didn't get going... until it got its Big Damn Movie), the Hydra twist turned it from Baddie of the Week to a full-on, engaging fight for survival, where anyone or anything could turn traitor. Could almost hear Nemesis laughing and crunching happily on a popcorn box of rivets.
It also illustrates perfectly the role that SuperNormals / Natural Origins have to play in a world of gods. And how you never, ever turn your back on one.

I like that show. I mostly watch it to try to recognize the Marvel characters they put in there, like Donnie "Blizzard" Gill, etc.
