2D superhero mmo

So I was playing maple story, but more impressive, Hyper Universe, which has some amazing models. I would like to see someone make a 2D side scrolling super hero mmo. I think this could work, and be quite huge. Surprisingly, 2D online games are hits, even in this high tech day and age. The nostalgia of the 8/16 bit era never appears to wear off, and devs have decades of history with 2D.

The popular belief is the 2D route is cheaper. I wonder, how would this effect character creation? Would things like a tentacle legs, dual heads, or quadrupedal be more feasible.

As a child, I thought my name was handsome, cause that is what everyone called me.

I think it's more difficult

I think it's more difficult to have a lot of customization in sprite based games.

A 2d Superhero MMO would be neat however. I feel that making it more like Dungeon Fighter Online (a side scrolling beat-em-up MMO) would work well with the super hero genre. Doubly so if they made it a bit like Comix Zone.

I agree, that is what I want. Less complexity. If the players could have a variety of body types, but not a detailed creation system that would still be cool imo. DCUO has literally zero customization.
