I want 40' tall robots to hunt down meta humans

These would not be giant monsters but they would be big...and have a LOT of hit points.
Marvel has the Sentinels, Champions has the Minute Men.

They would be different, of course. They would detect and hunt down all meta-humans.
and they would talk.

The first encounter would sound like, "Unknown Meta-Human detected. Termination program initiated."

After you've defeated them, they would know you name. "Meta-Human, Black Falcon encountered. Termination program initiated"

They could be backed up by smaller 12' tall robots and a bunch of normal humans with big weapons but no armor (blasters and controllers).

They could fly and teleport into a city location. They would have a secret factory that assembles the robots (an adventure).

They could be an invasion force. Heroes and villains alike would be able to fight them. They could invade the PvP zones. They would even attack invading martians. and the heroes fighting them.

Termination program initiated.

And I want a 5'7", 125 lbs,

And I want a 5'7", 125 lbs, lab-coat wearing gadgeteer to melt them into scrap metal.

"Program tehminated, y'all."

But seriously, I like this suggestion, and I hope to see these giant robots in game. So that Tinker Belle can melt them. ^_^

ED-209: {growls menacingly}

ED-209: {growls menacingly} You have 20 seconds to comply.

The alternative, of course, if you want something 40 feet tall is this old standby ...

And if that isn't good enough, you can always FORM BLAZING SWORD!!!

I wouldn't want to have to

I wouldn't want to have to worry about robots like this all the time in the open zones. But if they were limited to being part of a trial, special event or geographical location (like they only exist on a special island somewhere or in a certain PvP zone) then they'd probably be fine.

Giant robots that hunt down

Giant robots that hunt down anyone regardless of their alignment?

Who's been snooping in my records room?!

Revenge is motivation enough. At least it's honest...

I'm not sure how this would

I'm not sure how this would be tied into the overall lore in a good way that actually makes sense.

Otherwise I'm on the same level and thoughts as Lothic.

Actually as long as the robots were handled in a way/place that wasn't in the basic open zones or connected to the "main lore" of the game it could make perfect "sense".

For example there could be trial that has the players travel to an alternate parallel dimension where these robots have overrun the world. In this "parallel Earth" all the maps for the basic city zones could be reused as a closed trial instance but they could be made semi-destroyed to reflect how the robots have caused havoc there. This basic kind of idea has probably been used in comic books dozens of times (not to mention even in CoH itself) but it would still be fun to see a version of this in a game like CoT.

I like Giant Robot Island,

I like Giant Robot Island, where no one goes because of haywire Giant Robots that happen to try to murder anyone on it. That could even be the basis of a mission-based zone. Maybe an old supervillain's mechanical minions went nuts after his death and keep and maintain the island as if nothing happened to him. Add in a cruise liner crashing into it and someone similar to Clockwork King taking control and we have a great springboard.

Revenge is motivation enough. At least it's honest...

Sure this could work too. There are probably dozens of ways "giant killer robots" could be worked into a game like CoT. :)

As a limited time event sure. It could even be a periodic thing a few times a year. As I implied before the only way I wouldn't like this was if we could be hunted by them permanently anytime/anywhere in the basic open city areas.

What if it was something

What if it was something similar to the Rikti Invasions? Either triggered by the completion of an instance or a special week set aside each month for it to occur?

I can see it now an Island

I can see it now an Island with a killer Giant Robot... where did I hear that before..

Mirage: The Omnidroid 9000 is a top-secret military fighting robot. Artificial intelligence allows it to solve any problem it's presented with, and, unfortunately...
Mr. Incredible: Let me guess. It became smart enough to wonder why it had to take orders.
Mirage: We lost control, and now it's loose in the jungle, threatening our facility. We've had to evacuate all personnel for their own safety.

With or Without Super Villain Plot. It works.

Right, but how long before

Right, but how long before the 'Robo-beast of the Week' succumbs to the 'creeping sillies' and nobody takes it seriously anymore?

...people take Voltron/Sentai

...people take Voltron/Sentai/MonsteroftheWeek seriously? I think the fun in that genre is how over the top everything is.

Also, you can't use your best attack from the get go! Just like in comics, doing that doesn't do anything. You gotta have a big, overly insane battle to keep interest. No fun in just beating everyone in one move... well, unless you're Saitama..

Just once I would have liked to see them actually accomplish something as separate lions. I don't even care who's driving the blue lion when it happens.

Yeah but that would have required like 30 seconds worth of brand new unique animation for that episode. As much as we all enjoy old-school anime the one thing we can count on is that they'll reuse every frame of existing animation 47 times before they'll "deviate" from the formulaic script that's worked for them since the pilot episode of any show. ;)

I want them in open zones. I want them killing guards and vendors under Atlas. Anything that deviates from the inevitable heat death driven by staid game design is good.

Phil the Weatherman: This is different.

Andie McDowell: What is different?

Phil: Anthing different. Different is good.

That reminds me of Wildstar's Eldan for some reason. After the Eldan died off there robotic (and organic) creations went freaking nuts and maintained there still running facilities but would kill and brutally deconstruct or augment any living thing that came inside.

Something to point out as I recently refreshed myself on the lore we had so far is that robots (hell even sentient ones) are not under any circumstances unusual in Titan City or possibly the entirety of the Titanverse in general. Hell the metahumans who create them compete half of the time in making the better robots (super scientists compete in general apparently). I imagine it would be very easy to implement giant ones in some way.

Why is everyone assuming that

Why is everyone assuming that the Giant Robots would have to be the opposition to be defeated?

I'm thinking it would be a LOT more interesting if the Giant Monster Event involved an NPC Giant Robot fighting on the side of Titan City and that the PCs could form an impromptu supporting force for. Basic idea is that what the PCs do in order to "pinprick" the Giant Monster then creates the openings and opportunities for the Giant Robot to exploit and attack in order to win. Likewise, the PCs would also be needed to Buff and support the Giant Robot in order to allow it to endure the punishing attacks of the Giant Monster and keep fighting.

Basic formulation is a "tug of war" situation, in which the actions of the PCs "tip the balance" of the scales, rather than one in which the PCs "defeat directly" the threat to the city.

I like the limited invasion

I like the limited invasion scenarios. that works for me.
I also like a single zone where they can occasionally spawn. and adventures involving them can be found.
