Lore wanted to try something a bit heavier this week, and I figured now, while it was still 'just us', if you know what I mean, was a good time to try it. We'd certainly hope to write the occasional in game mission that makes you think, so we especially want to know how this one felt to you.

Boo-yar. That was great. Glorious social commentary that feels all too real, given the types of people who mindlessly chant U-S-A while raising the wrong flag.
Just because you get a call, doesn't mean it's legitimate.

Beautiful. Well done! Some days it seems like intelligent protagonists are too rare. It's good to see one use their head so well.

Wow, three weeks in a row. ^_^
Nice story, and some 'crat getting told he has to play by the rules always makes my day.

The State of the Game update was a bonus, filling in the gap that normally would have existed this round, resulting in a three in a row sequence. We'll be going back to normal after this. But those gaps between updates are in fact always up for use for something extra like that when called for. So this will happen occasionally.

Nice story.
What I got out of it is that our characters will get to make moral that don't necessarily have a "right" answer. In this mission, Anthem had to choose between the "Law" path and the "Order" path. Some of my characters would have made the same choice as her; others, not so much. I like it.

loved the update today.
i'll definitely be interested in playing missions like that in the game.
Nice. A classic "heroes can't afford to be Lawful Stupid" story. 'course scenarios like that make me wonder how many of those people Anthem could have arrested. Sure, they're not doing anything illegal now, but as members of Anarchy Red there's a good chance that at least a few of those people are wanted, if only for misdemeanors. Whether it would have been worth it to act on any such information and thus risk escalating the situation...
Five bucks says Mr. Pasty Suit was upset because he was the one who issued the fireworks permit and then discovered that it was going to be used by "terrorists".

Very nicely done! This is exactly the kind of narrative with built in ethical choices that I'm looking for. For me, this is perfect.

Now that you've said that, the final pieces of the story fall into place. I'd put the odds on that being the correct interpretation as incredibly high. And then, rather than "fess up" and take responsibility, the little weasel decided to abuse their power, call in a Hero, and try and have the Hero "clean up the mess" that the bureaucrat had made in the first place while attempting to maintain plausible deniability.
And worst of all, this sort of "not my fault/problem, here, you deal with it" passing the buck happens ALL THE TIME, both in business and in politricks.

Great lore post.
I like this format. It lends itself allot better to comic panels, if people ever choose to illustrate it. :D
PS. And if you're an artist... could you possibly illustrate this of us? :D
Maybe use 3D reference poses to illustrate faster?

A nice, convincingly low-key interlude in a superhero world. Realistically, there would be a lot of such incidents to every Rescuing The City from the Unearthly Menace.
You say nice things about me: I admire that in a person.
I liked this too. The plot kept me interested all the way through. Not a whole lot of resolution - perhaps if this was foreshadowing the bureaucrat's later appearances he could be more memorable - a costume element perhaps. Just one early sentence tripped up the momentum of the story for me. "I looked out at them as I walked towards them." was redundant with the observations that followed, but nothing like that happened again. I really did enjoy this.
