COH had invasion scenarios. The only one I enjoyed was the Rickti invasions.
The zombies never thrilled me.
The CoT Martian invaders sound like fun. But I want more...
Undead Nazis! with machine guns. They won't be slow, they will have planes and undead fleshy tanks. Appearing from nowhere they attack the city and EAT those they kill. YEAH!
Explosions, taking out a machine gun nest, this would be cool!
Robot invasion. Preceded by a giant robot (to lure the heroes away from the landing site), 10 foot tall robots would attack the city. Dr Boom is at it again!
What would you invade the city with?

Heh your nazi zombie invasion suggestion sounds like what happened to London in Hellsing: Ultimate.....
The devs won't get away with directly showing Nazis though so they likely would have to make it a similar group with a different name (like what CoH did with the Fifth Column).

What about an invasion of Comic Conventioneers all looking for the 'genuine super-experience' in the city with lots of supers in it? They run around, clogging the streets with outlandish costumes, but they can't be Targeted (easily) because they're tourists. Only... who's that lurking in the crowd?? Oh, it's your old nemesis! How do you thwart them, when they're surrounded by crazy costumers and look-alikes? How do you tell the real from the wanna-be?
Be Well!

Honestly? I always thought that the lack of a "Brass Monday" style invasion was a missed opportunity for City of Heroes. Except, instead of having robots everywhere or zombies everywhere or aliens everywhere ... you instead had what was always everywhere ...
CIVILIANS
All of those Civilians we saw (and ignored!) walking around all over the place would suddenly reveal themselves to be Nemesis Automatons and start pulling out weapons and attacking anything and anyone that wasn't Nemesis Faction. It would have been one of those "shame on us the Paris branch" kinds of moments, in which everything you THOUGHT you knew ... turned out to be wrong.
So yeah ... an "invasion" in which the civilians turn on the supers ... THAT would have been a fun event!

Children NPCs suddenly vanish from the parks. Some players don't notice, others begin to fill global chat with, "Hey, anybody notice any weird?" and "Where's the kids playing hopscotch?"
Fifteen minutes later every civilian NPC in the game is suddenly targetable. They attack the players with all sorts of powers and firearms. Small groups of 3-5 behave in coordinated fashion to take down mid to high level player characters.
Yeah. I like it. That could work. Not daily, and not regularly, but randomly once a month or so. It would definitely add a layer of suspense to the game.

What about an event where the signature characters (or most of them) have been subverted somehow? Who was that DC villain that put a starfish on your face and controlled your mind? Something like that. This, of course, is in addition to the big mobs of civilians similarly controlled. So, all the "infected" civilians are going around trying to infect other civilians in the streets. After you defeat some specific determined number of civilians, a Named Hero (or VIllain) shows up. Defeating the Infected turns them back to normal. So Civilians run away, Villains and Heroes fight with you for a little while against the other infected. (After all, Villains can't make it in a hive-minded society)
That was Starro, the first (?) villain for the Superfriends? Their Mole Man, or Loki.

The very existence of the taunting tank irritates, for it requires idiotic AI that obeys the taunt.
