while we're on the subject of improving communication, is there any status on a dev tracker for the forums? It would be nice to have a way of quickly skimming forum threads for dev posts when looking for new information or something. Just like Blizzard has that blue Blizzard icon next to a thread when a dev has posted...? I realize that a lot of these posts don't contain updates or game info and are oftentimes just social, but it's a thought anyways.

IMHO we need stuff from more points of view than just a cabbie. The concept of "a view from the gallery" is a good one, but there's more than one guy in the gallery.
And I think Gangrel is 100% right that if an update post has multiple items in it, it needs an executive summary and table of contents up front.

God, can you imagine what patch notes would read like if they were not split up into (relevant) sections, and instead it was just one huge wall of text with no bullet points/indentations/pagebreaks?

I wouldn't inflict that on my worst enemy.

Hell, if you have to treat the kickstarter updates as "practice" for writing out patch notes, I am all for it. If anything it would get you guys into practice for when the real notes start coming[1].

[1] Talking from experience here, where I am trying to get someone who keeps some voice profiles updated to actually *start* writing the notes, I am the poor soul who has to actually format the buggers.

It is amazing how badly some people write stuff. Sure they can find it quickly themselves, because they wrote it. But from an outsiders point of view, it was an abomination.

When our all too short list of web coders finally manage to find the time away from tasks directly related to game development to get our new site made, we can see about getting a dev tracker made for it. Pretty sure I've explained this to you before? Basically the answer to why any quality of life additions aren't being made to this site is that we want to replace it entirely, and any time that might be spent doing something like that for this site, would go into finally getting that new site. It is something of a catch 22 right now, but that's what happens with an all volunteer team.

I've been reading Redlynne's posts since Tabula Rasa Beta in '07. I don't have to imagine. I've got the service ribbon for it.

Written a few of those, too. Still wish there was a "spoiler" tag I could use to hide the details by default.

I appreciate the response, and good grief if you can remember explaining this to me before, what with all the other things you are juggling, then I have no excuse for forgetting if you have. Sorry to make you repeat yourself.

I believe it was all bundled up with a rather long list of community communication/service features people were asking for/discussing. I was trying to communicate the idea that because we are part time volunteers, we often have to choose between serving the community by focusing on the game they're depending on us to make, and serving them in the ways people were talking about. We've been going on the assumption that when that's the choice, prioritize the game. Just on a hunch :)

Heck, even our updates are like that. We pick topics we can depict using as little work un-related to forward motion as possible. Graphics that can ride on what we've built with a minimum of fancy shooting and editing. We never, ever want to fall into the trap of putting work into updates *instead* of development, and by and large we've succeeded. It's easy to get more flowery in words, and it may be we've been overcompensating :D. Anyway I can guarantee that the appropriate ears are listening to this discussion, it's proving a gold mine of feedback for updates going forward.

Suggest Titan Police -Security division (TPS) reports

Put the Internal Affairs, gang unit, mob unit, and superhuman intel/SWAT units under it and you have a resource to pull all your exposition needs from

Never mind the Alignment

Never mind the Alignment system (Violent vs Peaceful), but I've always preferred the term Peace Officer, with its innate overtones of "protecting the peace" in a defensive/preventative way over the alternative term Law Enforcement Officer, with its overtones of "offensively" enforcing the law. The former just feels more "reactive" to threats against the Public Peace while the latter correspondingly feels more "proactive" in ENFORCING the laws upon the citizenry.

Mostly a matter of semantics, granted, but it can be an important distinction that can encourage a "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality. Thus my sense that people who think of themselves as Peace Officers are less likely to be trigger happy, while Law Enforcement Officers are more likely to be trigger happy.

Detective Friday versus Judge Dredd.

All depends on the forum software ;)

And yes, having written them (or even copied/relaid out/translated the TR patch notes a few times), Spoiler tags are *incredbly* handy.

Of course, they work better when they are also nicely categorised/tabulated in the first place.

I see what you did there. Are you using the regulation red stapler with your reports? And no, neither I nor anyone else knows what "PC LOAD LETTER" means.

Apologies for the necromancy, but this seemed to be the best thread to mention this in.

You have no idea how many times I've waved that specific picture about. I call it my 'business plan'.

Nope, that's APEX clothing and that technology has been integrated with the engine. Video for reference, 'cause it's quite cool: APEX Clothing Demo Reel
With all the planning they've done for future improvements, I get the sense that there's plenty of room for hope that they can still apply the perfect solution whenever they happen to get it.

That video, is thew greatest, most encouraging, and anticipated thing I have seen....and I want the outfit too! I can see whole dojo's of martial arts heroes fighting over the right to wear the costume.

I hope you guys are able to have fun at times doing all this. Are you at least doing things which are interesting and fun?

I say that as a musician who has to put in a lot of work, but the hours fly by because I enjoy it. I even manage to practice scales and make that fun.
