Let me first say I am very hopeful that Revolution and his team develop an interesting, beautiful and fun soundtrack for the areas and missions in this game
That said, I want the option to plug in a podcast, ball game radio broadcast, cape radio, or an internet radio feed through the game. If not that, then the option to turn off all non player interaction sound.
I loved CoH but for the last year and a half, I had it muted while I played something else in the background. The repetitive nature of the sounds got irritating.
There are legal issues with giving players control over sound they can pipe through the game. If we in any way seem to be encouraging unlicensed use of third-party media, we could be theoretically held liable. While doing it on your own computer only might be a different case, I can imagine that some busybody might want to sue MWM even so.
Ability to mute sounds selectively (that is, music, or SFX, or what-have-you as a category) is almost certainly in the cards; it's something just about any game can do these days.

I loved keeping combat sounds on, while turning all other sounds off while I listened to music!
Don't know if they really need the ability to allow players to pipe in sound to send to other players though.
I am in charge of non-music sounds in the game actually. Hellwreckage has sole music duties for now. We are (sadly) aware that sound is the first things players will end up turning off. We cry and get over it. ;) That being said, we are all going to try to make you not want to turn anything off because it is just so awesome.
I can't see us not having the option to turn off music and even all sound for the game so that you can listen to whatever you want, but honestly it is far easier for you to turn off the sound and pop open a player under the game than it would be to incorporate player plug ins. That being said, it may be possible to have some sort of player in game for the various player run internet radio shows that will invariably come into being. It's all up to tech and it will be weighed heavily on whether or not we should take the time to code it. Maybe a later issue kind of thing if you ask me.

As long as it's not difficult to have other programs running (that is, as long as I don't have to hack the game to allow me run it in a size-able window instead of fullscreen mode) then I probably don't need imbedded sound plug-ins, assuming that other programs will not crash if running underneath CoT.

I can't fathom on not having a windowed mode. Personally it would drive me nuts even though I hooked up a second monitor recently just to save me some sanity to work on the game. I'd still want a windowed mode even so.

PC games without windowed option = suck
