Mystik - Gavin Hollaran

People had always told Gavin, 'It must be hard', and each time, Gavin said 'Yeah', and then smiled.
He couldnt blame them for thinking that way. His was the only black family in the village, and he was the only black kid in the school. His family had moved here with his fathers job when Gavin was still a baby, so this was all he had known.
Still, the village was nice, the people polite and not at all the throwbacks one would imagine, his parents were good and worked hard. It could almost be boring, except for the nearby mountains, and abandoned quaries, and the forest, and the little river, the fields where he played football, and the fact that he was never short of girlfriends.
Somebody had said it to him this morning, not one of his school friends of course, the shop keeper. "It must be tough Gavin, everyone being a bit different".
"We're all a bit different" he shrugged, then grinned, as he handed over his spare change for a bottle of pop.

Gavin was in school, second year of senior school, 12 going on 13 years old. The sunbect was his worst, R.E.
Gavin hated religious education, it was so pointless. As far as he was concerned, it began and ended in imagination, with very little in the middle. The Teacher was droning on about Norse mythology and how the Asatru and Vanatru percieved it, while Gavin stared at his hand, and all the tiny creases between milimeters of skin. The hairs on his wrist stuck up like tiny little trees, on miniscule hills. Then something happened which made him yelp in surprise.

A crack appeared in his skin, it wrent open like a fisure in the earth, with the sound of thunder, and a harsh brilliant light poured out of the rupture. This was not a surface split, it went down for hundreds of miles, Gavin could feel it, yet it was just in his arm.
Another crack opened up, a moment later, in his other arm. Gavin sat bolt upright in his chair as the onset of puberty activated his dormant mutant gene, and he gazed down at his arms.
The roll of thunder continued as the cracks in his skin continued to grow, and the harsh blinding light poured out. Another peal of thunder roared through the room as a fisure opened down across his back and chest. A few of his classmates screamed, but most had too much pride to vocalise their fear, all of them had scrambled away to the edges of the room. The door was flung open, and a few ran, though Gavin's closest friends all stayed.
Second by second, the cracks grew and the light poured out. It was not painfull, but still a little frightening. After 2 minutes, there was nothing left, Gavin's entire body was now radiating brilliant light, like the light from a carbon arc. And then, the light began to dim. The Harshness faded, and after half a minute, it was once more just Gavin, sitting in his seat, as if nothing had happened.
Gavin looked up at his teacher, still standing by the blackboard.
"Teacher".
"Yes Gavin", replied the teacher.
"Odin wants you to know, you're wrong".

Name : Gavin Hollaran
Alias : Mystik
Body : Light brown skin, black hair, brown eyes. Adult 6'1". Athletic but not overly muscular.
Personality : A little cheeky, in humour. Curious about the multiverse. Well schooled. Neutral Good alignment.

Powers (mutant):
Gavin is a conduit for dimensional energies. He can summon dimensional elements into himself, embodying them. He does not summon beings or spirits, but rather the planar forces. He has used this to transform himself into a hellhound (on one occaision), to generate divine light (usefull against vamps), and has spent time flying as an air elemental. He often tunes himself into the planes of life force to massivly boost regeneration and to survive is harsh environments.
Another use of his power allows Gavin to plane travel to adjacent planes of existance, and he has began exploring, against his mothers wishes.
Gavin's power only functions on planes of existance that are adjacant or at least close to his current existance.

Mystik part 2

Mystik part 2

Gavin was sitting at a table in the library, to his left was a pile of books, thick tombs, that he had yet to read. To his right was another pile of similar books, which he had already perused. In front of Gavin was a notepad, and for all he had all he already read, only a few pages of notes had been taken.
"Hay, Gavin".
The voice was from a boy in Gavin's year, Adam Jones. They were not close friends, but they did share a few classes. Adam sat down opposite Gavin and and spun around the pile of 'finished' books, to read their spines.
"Aleister Crowley, Marian Green, Doreen Valiente, Jannet Farrah, Robin Skelton", Adam picked a book off the pile, "Dark Moon Mysteries by Timothy Roderick ".
"A few good insights, but mostly crap", replied Gavin, without even looking up.
"Witchcraft and magic, is this real"?
Gavin put his current book down, and threw a smile at Adam.
"Sort of, yes. What if a long time ago, somebody knew what was out there, and how to deal with it. They passed it along to their students, and they to theirs. For thousands of years, the message gets passed along, however, over time, they add their own context, they omit bits which didnt fit in with the times, truth gets watered down. Eventually philosephy gets involved, ideas like 'everyone is right', and then, it all becomes imagination".
"So, your saying that people could once throw balls of lightning, and now, its all daydreaming".
"Essentially, yes".
"And you can tell the difference"?
"You remember what happened to me in RE class, Adam, I can feel nearby planes of existance, heavens and hells, elemental planes, I can draw their forces into myself, and travel into them. Here, watch this".
Gavin took a piece of paper from the back of his notebook, and carefully wrote down an occult symbol.
"Look at that, what do you see".
"Its just a weird symbol Gavin".
"Nowadays, its used in vision quests and pathworking, to imagine your way to the thunder gods, but Its supposed to be more than that".
Gavin drew another occult symbol, he took care this time. It looked somewhat similar to the first symbol.
At the moment the image was complete, static electricity danced across the image, the page shimmered for an instant, then sparked and went up in flame.
"And you have that in your head".
"Yeah, and what do you think happens if I focus an imagination of that image at somebody"
"Holy crap"!
"And what if I'm drawing power from certain nearby planes at the time"?
The question hung in the air, before Adam replied, pearing at Gavin with one eye. "How big can it get".
"It gets big. Ever wanted to be a superhero? Not one of those bricks, but one who has to think to fight".
"Your going to get all the girls, you know that Gavin".
Gavin burst out laughing.

"I already do mate, I already do".
