This is a screen from the Facebook page "Coh Survivors", whom I'm sure many of us know :p
It sparked the memories of the Shadow Shard for me, how great it was, and how spurned is was that redside saw nothing close to it (as some would noice on another post i've made about redside), and it drew me to this question:
Dodging IP issues, how could CoT handle some Multiverse content?
NCsoft can't have the trademark on a company that uses interdimensional technology for research purposes, and if they do, link it to another company (EdenTech seems to be CoT's biotech guys).
We can't have Portal Corp obviously, I suggest some names to answer that*: Backdoor Industries, Gate Industries, Gate Technologies, Gate Enterprises, Ostium Operations (Ostium is "Door" in latin), Ostium Industries, Anoyo Ltd., Anoyo Corp., Anoyo Technologies, (Anoyo is Japanese for "other world"), Bridge Group, Dimension Group, or really any [Insert last name] Technologies/Industries/Enterprises/Corp..
The advantages are many and great, and the ways to create storylines are just as endless.
As Darth Fez mentioned here, such a multiverse could serve as a sandbox tool for players.
In my opinion, i'd think it better the multiverse remains a small part of the canon, and that CoT doesn't have two or three interdimensional invaders. But, hey, the option could be there.
I don't think I need to sell the Multiverse idea, but, thoughts?

You've got my vote on this. The Shadow Shard was my favorite place in all of CoH. It was such a vast and mysterious world. I would love to see something like it in CoT.
Adding to your comments about endless storyline possibilities, I think that such a zone would allow the writers to be very creative since the themes and designs of other dimensions should be largely open-ended. I don't see why they couldn't create a corporation like one you suggested and simply roll with it. There are surely other ways to approach travel into another dimension (aliens, magic portals, cosmic anomalies, etc.), but I think a scientific expedition would be fine.
I know it's wishful thinking to expect something like the Shadow Shard in CoT, but I would certainly love to see it. There was truly nothing else like it in CoH.

Something my Monday'd brain forgot. What would be great if we had the ability to see if other dimensions or worlds are explored is the difference of certain physics.
Chiefly, gravity. If we ever see a Moon map or something like Shadow Shard, where the other dimension is not on earth, I'd like to see at the very least, an enhanced jump. It'd be awesome if the Devs could take it further and have range increase for projective-based ranged attacks (bullets, Missiles, etc.), increased knockup (oh the lols), increased effectiveness of such a gravity control set (plz!), maybe decreased accuracy (depending on marksmanship), and altered flight speed.

Yeah, multi-dimensional zones are a must.

Its one thing that I have actually enjoyed in Wildstar, is that when you are "off world", you jump higher/floatier... compared to how it is normally on the planet.
Then again, there are also temp buffs that you can get (explorer path for example) that can increase your run/jump speed to something that is impressive... granted, if you get the full 5 stacks you become fairly uncontrollable, and you can clear a bay in a single jump....
I don't know, I'm not sure even MY video card can render a 5-dimensional zone.
R.S.O. of Phoenix Rising
Surely, for a company that runs inter-dimensional adventures, we could have :-
Janus Biotech Industries.
(Janus, from roman mythology, is the god of beginnings and transitions, of gates, doors, passages, endings and time)
You could even have an NPC who claims to be the original Janus, he runs the company.

Double agreed! Plus or Minus "Biotech", since trans-dimensional travel may or may not have anything to do with life science or its exploitation.

I was thinking of the 'biotech' option, partly cos it sounds cool (which is half the battle), but also for the story mode. If porting can be purely mechanical, then you could simply teleport bombs to your targets. Job done, world domination in one hour flat. On the other hand, if you NEED biological components, life itself, to make the gates work from within, then that facilitates the player characters getting involved. Suddenly you need soldiers, and heroes, and maybe even villains. Maybe the gates work because they are fueled with Janus's own blood, who knows. Maybe Janus gets kidnapped, and we need to go rescue him before allowed access...
Haha, now i'm daydreaming. I'm sure the Dev's will do something amazing anyway.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Being in Biotech, I don't see how that'd work. But maybe some "life signature" is needed to pass through.
Robots, idk?
There could be chemical means too, rather than "purely mechanical". But I was thinking these portals were strictly trans-dimensional, rather than "opening rips in space time in any dimension or time" stuffy stuff stuff :p
Won't many heroes have teleportation powers? I'd think teleporting bombs would already be an issue, with or without Janus Technologies*

Given that Biotech is your area, I must bow to your expertise in this area, heck, i only have wikipedia to work from.
Mind you, I could see it working in a way, Janus (the NPC) actually is a minor deity, and is using his own cells to run the gates (this is comic book science, it doesnt need to be exact). The gates, with a massive power supply, mimic his own godly powers, but still need a living organism to function.
Maybe we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves?
lol.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Of course we are :p
Onward, maybe his blood (with it's magical properties that are outside the scope of science) is a form of fuel. Not like gas for a car, but more analogous to oil: it needs to be changed every so often, but it will still function optimally without doing so.
This has two consequences:
1: Janus's permission is required to a degree to run a transdimensional opening (Names: January, AlphaGate, [insert greek letter]Gate, [insert NATO alphabet]Gate, Hadean Gate, Hadean Portal*)
2: Plot twists! Janus is incapacitated by a villain (rogue, scoundrel, or even hero) and some of his blood is drained to power a third-party transdimensional opening (Pyli ("gate in greek")), which then allows...stuff :p
I just realized I've mixed Roman and Greek mythology up, oh well. But I like how far this has gotten.
*Same as before.

You've just given me the idea for a story arc. Janus sends the character after a villain that has stolen a pint of his blood, and is using it to fuel their power-suit. you follow a few clues, and go from instance to instance hunting down this villain, each time they port out before you reach them. On the last mission, they tap out of juice. maybe Janus turns up in anger, weakened, and you get to decide who to help (for your alignment).
Oh man, I want CoT NOW!!!

I hope there's an update on the Mission Creator.
Wait, are transdimensional portals (I like Januaries and Hadean Gates so far ;) ) portable or static; I imagined them static.
I feel it offers more to that Janus Industries is focused more on research, theory, and exploration, than on application.

I'm imagining that the basic gates are giant static things, as in the 'stargate' series, however, that may not stop super-tech groups having micronised versions. This of course, is upto the devs.

City of Titans. Titans are Greek Gods.
...
*scratches head*
*blinks*
*wanders off confused*
(also, Janus is a Roman god, lol, not Greek)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Same thing. The Roman gods are the Greek gods with a different name. As for the titan reference, all the other names we could use for a super powered MMO were taken. City of Titans wasn't even the name the devs wanted to go with in the first place. So yes, we do have a Greek mythology reference in the name, but that does not mean we need more references in the game lore.

The Titan Legacy - Defender of the Inner Flame
Thats okay, I was just being a little pedantic (and maybe sarcastic). Damnit, I had story arcs for Janus and everything, and now I cant think of a better name for a portal company. No doubt something will occure to me at 3:15 in the morning, which I'll forget about before I get to the P.C. Ha, such is life.
Also, I am sorry, but I am a bit pedantic about such facts, when I said that Janus is a Roman god. He does not have a greek equivalant, he is NOT a greek god with a different name (though he may be related to another eastern deity). Of course, if we broaden the godly ban to all classical mythology, then that takes Janus out too.
Ah...The Ingress Corporation!
_____________________________________________________________________________
Well, you are free to use any mythology you want for your own personal lore or in the mission creator.
Actually did not know Ianus wasn't cribbed off the Greeks. But as far as roman references go, Pretoria used numerous roman references as a counterpoint to the greek used on Primal earth. So I can see the dev team choosing to limit all of greek/roman myth references.

A tabletop pen'n'paper game run by a friend of mine about a decade ago had a curious twist in it for this sort of thing. When you were talking about EVERYTHING that ever was, will be, could have been, and so on ... you weren't talking about a universe, or even a multi-verse ... you were talking about Totality. ALL of the multi-verses ... ALL of the "other dimensions" and other timelines, fact, fiction and other "other" and so on and so forth, of every "realm" in existence, every "plane" of existence (in the D&D sense of "infinite planes") and so on ... ALL OF IT ... comprised the Totality.
And just to keep things interesting ... *most* of Totality was made up of the realm of Chaos ... where "rules" broke down and "order" just couldn't gain a foothold. Only a tiny fraction (think less than 1%) of the Totality was made up of "ordered" regions ... including "our Earth" that the players were playing the game in (just for that extra bit of meta flavoring) and so on.
So that was the concept behind Totality.
Well in this tabletop pen'n'paper game, there was a ... company ... that would hire "contractors" to go into all kinds of alternate realities and pocket dimensions and corners of Chaos and what have you to recover ... Artifacts. Stuff™. Loot.
The name of this company?
Totality Industries (ltd)
The joke, of course, was that the Totality itself was EVERYTHING ... but this company that "harvested" all kinds of "stuff" from the Totality was a Limited Partnership ... hence the (ltd) notation on the company name. This then put a sort of "limit" on the (literally) "limitless" scope of all of Totality.
The currency used for and by this business was Totality Industries Monetary Units. In other words ... TIMU.
Years later, the game master lowered the boom on all of us players who'd gotten comfortable with the notion of "Totality" and what it meant in this game master's campaigns. We were negotiating with a Chaos Lord's ambassador/representative for the recovery of an exceptionally powerful artifact that we had learned had been "heaved into Chaos" at some point in the past of a specific timeline. The ambassador consulted with the Deep Chaos Lord (by means that we were never clear on) and got a most unexpected answer:
"That object is in the OTHER Totality."
At that point, needless to say, minds were well and truly blown!
.
To bring this story back on topic ... allow me to suggest a company name of Totality Industries (ltd) as a counterpart to the Portal Corp. we remember from Paragon City.

Personally I'm not really that jumpy to see a multiverse. But if so then I'd like to suggest to build it with the city.
It's something that I didn't completely agree with.
I do have to admit Cimerora was a whole lot of fun but it didn't really add to the game. Shadow Shards, same thing to be honest.
Praetoria on the other hand. That was great, the whole story got tangled up with the main city and it's events where showing through invasions and such.
Ofcourse I'm not saying that the whole multiverse should be discarded because I do know a lot of people like it.
I'd like to suggest of instead making a Shadow Shards clone, make a dark alternate dimension version of Titan City, you could do all kinds of things with that. Make it, a new Preatoria, make it a dark ghosty city like Dark Astoria, or you could even make it like the Shadow Shards and have pieces of the city float about as islands.
The so beloved Portal Corp, or 'Totality Industries' as I've seen above could still be used to travel between said zones.
If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.
10/10!
