More classic games use crazy colour changing effects to show invincibility or similar power-ups, I tried to find a video game example, but below is what I could find.

Now, imagine something (maybe) less crazy but similar to this effect on costumes. A magic being whose cape, jewels, armour, or other accents go from black to red in a similar fashion, or ANY character with glowing eyes or varying colour.
[WARNING: Super out there suggestion below]
What would be AMAZING, would be syncing this colour change with the powers, i.e., a fire guy's aura and pendant jewel phase from dark grey to red to orange to yellow to white (ik, complex, see the warning) and when the aura and jewel are white, the fire attacks are also white. Note: after casting, the colour should probably stay.
Thoughts?

If it's relatively subtle or subdued, it could be an interesting option. Otherwise, if I ended up on a team full of people with such effects running, I might well end up motion sick.
For powers it would have to be entirely optional. People might not care to have their powers override or alter the look of their costumes.

Of course it'd be optional, but it'd be very neat to say the least.
I'd add the caveat that one can't modulate the colour change speed, and I'd keep it fairly slow.

How about something like pearlescent colors where look at it directly is the main color while indirectly like curves and angles show a different color.

Also awesome, and I could see it having many of the same advantages as well as being easier to implement...
...but, I feel chameleon-paint-like colours aren't a replacement for colour-phasing pieces.

This would be fun for a character made up of living paint or ink, though I can easily see where it can get a bit of an eyestrain if not careful.
Maybe the video settings could disable such a setting, and allow a more static colour or a static mixture of colours similar to those chosen. This would also be beneficial since colour-changing could be harsh on a low-grade graphics card.

I do not like this type of color changing dresses in games while playing as they they stress to eyes if it is used for longer period of time .

Well, I dig it. However, as all these guys have said, something is going to have to be done for the faint-of-inner-ear. I'd recommend adding a toggle option to turn off color-changing costumes.
After that, it should be perfect.
