Dont know if this has been brought up before or not but it was one of my favorite features of subscribing to CoH back in the day. Now Im not saying you need to mail me a comic book every few months but I would like a eComic that has some overarching story line with in game events/results/consequences. Best example I can give is what happened with Breakneck and his statue in kings row. Best thing that I ever seen in a game. WoW did something similar but personal did not find it having the same impact. Perhaps have our friend the gabby cabby take a part in narrating the history in some aspect.

CoH style comic book
^ +1 if there is time and it doesn't take away from developing the actual game :D
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
I may be mistaken, but I had the impression that there were lots of qualified 2-D artists volunteering, that didn't necessarily make the Dev team. If one's skills are in that realm, and not in the programming or 3-D design set, this would be a great contribution and wouldn't affect the actual game's production moving forward.
I'm all for a monthly graphic e-novel. Personally though, if we get this little extra, I'm going to hope for better writing than CoH seemed to toss at the comic. Storylines were good. Dialog was...well...the storylines were really good.
Kind of related, maybe off topic... I liked the news articles on the Official CoH site. I would like it to be more like a real newspaper. Something with 2 or more pages, also maybe have the characters reading the eNewspaper. A nice way to remind players a new version is online to read. :))
I like the comic book idea, and think this is a nice bonus for premium subscribers, if not all subscribers.
[My idea is to have balanced game play, something cheap like $5 a month (maybe with discount yearly packages), and more expensive premium packages that give perks not related to game play (Comics, beta testing, Supergroup Creation, Bases), Stuff you do not need, or may affect game play (Early access or exclusive costumes, auras, decorative pets/side kicks) .
Also, I believe comics where a way for the writers to include some player characters, and come up with ideas for the game based on these characters' powers/origin stories.
Once we get closer to release, where we can sample some lore and such, I hope to see some fan-driven content.
I'm not much of an artist, but I know a few- including professional comic artists. 2D art for an entire comic can be extremely time-consuming to draw. Look what your average webcomic artist can create- and that's often when he's making the comic & its promotion central to his life. I can't see a volunteer able to regularly crank out a continuing storyline.
What I DO hope to see:
The CoH community had several fan-driven contributions- from the newspaer to magazines that hilighted player writing contributions, but they seemed limited to either PDF or built into the forum structure. I'd like to see a more dedicated online-magazine-format site that existed outside of the forums that could serve host to all sorts of player media.
- Combine that with the equivalent of "gabby cabby" - officially scripted stories brought to life by a "guest artist" (either 2d or 3d screenshot) to introduce the "feel" of various zones leading up to release, and then for subsequent releases after that. Make them more story-driven, but with new stuff more central to each story (not like my old guides, which were very 4th-wall-breaking catalogues of new issues).
- CoH had a dedicated group of screenshot-based comic creators when I stopped doing them, and they shared a great variety of vision in both their storytelling and their effort to capture the tale in screenshots. I, myself, preferred heavy-dialogue stories and found the static faces of CoH didn't work well in that regard, but with the Unreal Engine's machininema potential, there MIGHT be a world of potential opened up for this community here. They could showcase their work there.
- Of course, the machinima folk that make videos would be fitting there.
- Written stories from the fan-base.
- I'd love to see something that would open the possibility of the game devs recognizing some of this work-- marking it as "lore friendly" or even "canon" to give the players more of a sense of being a contributor in their own right. It may be nothing more than a seal... or a story a player made might trigger a little dev easter egg, ("Ascendant who? Sorry, you have the wrong number.")

An official comic book is planned. Details will be in an update someday, not sure when.

A sports comic is also a possibility. Titan City's sports teams include - or are rumored to include, at any rate - people with superpowers, after all. At least they'd have a proper explanation for how or why they can do some of the things that are seen in sports manga/anime. Admittedly I've no idea how well received this would be by western audiences or, by extension, CoT's player base.

Yes it was mentioned, and it has my full support.
