Few Questions and Suggestion to the Character Editor

Questions:
1. Wath insect features will be avaiable from the start and which later? i am speaking here not of entire insect characters. i mean humans with insect features like insect wings but all other body parts are human.
2. can we change the size of our characters and how much? can we create really small heroes?
3. can we change the size of wings and also their colour and also how theyre folded and such things?

suggestions:
1. insect features i want to see (at best at the start of the game):
- compound eyes
- anteannas with different forms and types avaiable.
- mandibles
- insect wings of diffrent types:
- butterfly wings
- wasp wings
- dragonfly wings
- more types
- insect foots and arms and legs and heads
2. if we can change the size of our cgatacter from really small to really big:
- that would have pros and cons like a small char is weak but hard to hit and a big char is easy to hit but strong

3. origin has also pros and cons:
if youre an insect mutant as an example, you have less health and bogger strength. something like that.

as you can see i love insect heroes :D
heres my newly created deviantart channel where i created my first own female insect hero using the CO character editor because i suck at drawing: http://kaiserdeathiv.deviantart.com/

Probably too soon to ask what

Probably too soon to ask what costume items will be available at launch and what ones will be later.
I'd ASSUME that there will be some insect options, and some robot options, and some animal options, and some alien options, and some ....

I strongly doubt that the size of your character will have any in-game mechanical effects such as strength or ability to dodge. Who is to say that a small character is too unfit to dodge and so cant move easily? Who is to say that a large character doesn't have super speed to dodge? Why cant Mr So-Small-Ill-Sit-In-Your-Backpack-And-Shoot-Fireballs-Over-Your-Shoulder posses Strength enough to lift 10 cars and juggle them while eating a sandwich?

Just on reasonable speculation (based on decades of computer gaming) I'm assuming we'll be able to make our characters roughly as big or as small as we could in CoH. I doubt we'll be able to make anything less than say 2 or 3 feet tall just because of the way the combat "collision boxes" and other in-game PvE and PvP physics will work - for the same reasons we probably won't be able to go much taller than say 8-10 tall.

There's also very likely not going to be any way to "shrink" down to true insect size and somehow sneak around undetected that way. The only way that'd work well is for the Devs to somehow figure out how to scale the entire game down to that level and allow a "micro-character" like that to interact with normally sized ones. As interesting as that may be it just sounds like it'd be way too far out of scope for what they're trying to do with CoT.

There's nothing wrong with liking insect-based superheroism, but as cybermitheral was implying I think until we get further information we'll have to assume CoT will work pretty much how CoH did at least as far as "character size" and "character origin" having absolutely no bearing on character ability.

If you want a "small but hard to hit character" you'd make a small character with something like Super Reflexes.
If you want a "large but strong character" you'd make a large character with something like Super Strength.

In a game universe which has magic, aliens and pretty much any other "explanation" you want for superpowers there's really no reason why body size should imply any built-in bonus or restriction to ability.

1) We have a lot of insect

1) We have a lot of insect pieces on the plate

2) Similar size range as CoH, no effect on abilities or stats.

3) Origins are strictly a roleplay element and do not impact the game systems.

Any chance we could have a

Any chance we could have a broader size range? I do get that anything more than 8ft (you could cheat above 8' with long legs, but whatever) gets silly, so does <4ft. Maybe it's worth the customizability to allove <4' and >8', but how likely is this?

How do you handle 10' tall

How do you handle 10' tall characters in an office map with 8' high ceilings?
Or what about caves/tunnels?
If we just make every map at least 2' taller than the max character height then the maps may look silly = a 'normal' sized Hero of 6' walks into an office to arrest BadGuy and sees the roof is 12' tall - WTF?!?!?!
What about head costume items that are also tall? So a 10' tall character with a 2' tall headdress walks into the office and his headdress is going through the roof? Or do we make all ceilings 14' tall or not allow tall head items (no antenna, no high wings, no weird hairstyles, etc).

What about the players that like to 'Click Target' over 'Tab Target' with mobs 2' tall? Now before someone says "but they are small so they are hard to target" that is incorrect. I should not have a problem "targeting" anything, but "hitting" them is a different matter and again should be based on the characters Defence/Evasion/Avoidance/whatever not their physical size.

Just throwing this out there,

Just throwing this out there, a goliath 9ft tall should be the highest mark. To address the apparent calamity, why not do what actual people over 8ft tall do to get through doors less than 8'+ high...duck. What is my character, a kneeless gigantic robot?

Sidenote: If I feel awesome

Sidenote: If I feel awesome having a 10' tall toon with a tiki headdress that's 2' high and wings that add 4' to the height of the toon, I'd accept some clipping on standard doors.

Hypothetically I'd have nothing against having 10-12 foot tall characters in a game like this if it was just a matter of accepting a little bit of clipping here or there.

But here's the main problem with what you were suggesting about just having tall character "duck" their heads in tight spaces: the game would first have to be "aware" of how tall characters are and constantly calculate if they are in a position where the distance from floor to ceiling is less than the character's height. Once it made the determination to make a character "duck" then there'd have to be appropriate animation to hunch a their heads downward and account for any other possible "hunched" movement. Amazingly enough this would all be a fairly complex and time-consuming set of details to account for.

This is why it's far, far easier just to makes sure every character "fits" in the game world without having to worry about hunching them over to move around.

I recall the "indoor"

I recall the "indoor" ceilings in CoH being relatively tall, but ridiculously so given the average room size found in the office buildings. I also recall the occasional instances (purple tunnels anyone?) where three sets of wings in a party made for a pretty complete visual obstruction. So I'm generally in favor of a reasonabvle size limit on characters and interior spaces designed to accomodate that range.

OTH, I'll occasionally see someone in Champions who bought the "Giant-size" perk, or whatever it is, and has an enormous toon standing around near an NPC. It's pretty spectacular, as long as its a rarity. I know my eyebrows go up whenever I see it. But if anyone could pick it, it would lose its flavor pretty fast. And I don't think it's worth all the incumbent complications.

OTOOH, I'd love to see a few very rare instance missions, (maybe this would only really work as a solo thing, dunno), where you had the chance to do the Alice in Wonderland thing and shrink or grow to deal with a particular situation. Uh-oh, I feel another thread coming on....

in CoH, one of the Striga TF's.. i forget the name now... when we fought the 5th Column in that last Mish with the BIG Robot that spans a few floors... I would have liked it if in the middle of the mish the Hands would start moving and try and Clobber the heroes and would make a mess of the platforms, turn them into swiss cheese with each swing of its arm.

Same! At least the robot could've attacked.

I hope there's adequate numbers of giant robots (and other things) in CoT.
