Ding!

I always thought it would be nice if hitting the next level triggered some kind of AOE thing. Maybe a short lived buff or some kind of healing. And when you hit whatever is the top level in the game maybe it's even more dramatic.

Do you mean something like

Do you mean something like immediately filling your health and end bars and getting the effect of a large insp of each type? :-)

I'd definitely like to request something similar to the graphic and sound effects that CoX provided upon levelling, and a similar persistent visual indicator in the UI that it's time to go train. In some MMOs I haven't even noticed when I levelled and ended up playing for hours before realising I had new powers/skills to allocate.

Spurn all ye kindle.

I also think some kind of

I also think some kind of alert is a necessity, and it is a standard, although I'd prefer to avoid anything obtrusive. I've experienced one or two games in which the effect went over the top and it almost invariably annoys me after the first few times I see it. It is particularly irritating if I'm in the middle of combat and my screen lights up to such an extent that I can't see what's going on for a few seconds.

Yeah staring in Issue 12 CoH granted the following Level Up Boost:

Upon reaching enough XP to level up (at all levels), one of each type of large inspiration is immediately cast upon your character, and health and endurance bars are immediately filled.

Since it also came with a pretty cool "starburst" visual effect I figure CoT will probably do something similar to all of that.

As far as having a persistent indicator after level up I could see where they might make the XP bar blink or some such that would catch your eye to remind you but not be too obtrusive.

This looks to be one of those

This looks to be one of those issues that can be very personal.
Some love the way CoH did it visually.
Others hated it being too much and OTT.

Id like to see (eventually) a few options available via the Menu:
Levelling Up Effects
1) None - ill keep an eye on my XP bar
2) Visual (low) - a small visual effect
3) Visual (medium) - a moderate visual effect
4) Visual (large) - a large visual effect
5) Visual (OMFGImBlind!) - must wear sunglasses when this occurs
With another tick box options for
- Text Alert - "Levelled!!" will appear above your characters head for 5 secs

Options sound like an excellent thing to have.

I wonder if we could get the options for a sound effect, like ding, crowd cheering, dramatic announcerperson announcing "Level up!" or such.

Can we get an option for Malcolmy Reynolds popping up and saying, "Shiny!"?

I'd prefer it to be client

I'd prefer it to be client side and not server side for my action RP seeing another character glow and float is kind of immersion breaking.

It wasn't to me. I preferred having an indication of who leveled up. (I had various 'congratulations' macros for different characters even.) I just took it as a graphical effect, not something literally seen in the world. (The same way I treated textual emotes as something that happened as opposed to a character describing what happened.)

Opinions I'm sure vary on those two.

We could still have audio

We could still have audio clues for people on our team, and there's always the UI to clue you in as well.. but almost 100% of the time I'm teaming a great mission and someone levels all the sudden the conversation completely shifts and the other players seem overly compelled to react to this very obvious visual cue that happened.

If the goal is to show the person who leveled that they now have access to things their character did not have access to then what benefit do the other players receive in being subject to the OOC immersion?

Agreed! I didn't mind it when I didn't RP, but when I got into RPing and people RPed it...breakage!
