why did you make her cute! now i cant call her "gnoll"...
you should go suggest "animal spine manes" for costume parts! As an alternate to wings.
I am actually hoping for faces similar to that myself available. i want to do a rabbit themed character but not just glued on rabbit ears.

I played CoH for a while. Left it for Champions Online where I created a SG of really great people named DE:LTA.
We used a character's likeness from the Champions IP and Champions Online so in the last few weeks we've been tossing around ideas for a new supergroup uniform (yes we wear uniforms) so as to not use another game's intellectual property. I'll post the rejected ideas but am holding on to the final until I get confirmation from Petalstorm to whether or not the Fashionista perk will work for my concept.
In any case, enjoy the art.

I never received an answer from the devs about the costume I wanted to use for Fashionista (concerning whether or not platform shoes would be considered a new character template) So I give a smaller donation to the Kickstarter instead of paying 3K without the promise to see what I envisioned on a game still in development. Still time to up my KS pledge but for now I'll leave the final concept art here for my character

I am IN NO WAY an artist... but I'm trying to create a character for titans, and this is what i'm working with so far..... sort of a blending of "space-themed" costumes, and "patriotic" themed costumes...
my ideal would be having the stars on shoulders and chest be (aesthetically) something akin to the arc reactor in ironman's armor....
The blue part has a collar (not the odd tube-look it came out like) but the whole piece is thicker/layered onto the mute-colored under suit (as opposed to something like Booster Gold's collared outfit).
no belt, just thick soled boots with a similar shape and color as the gloves.
We've got a loooong way to go, before launch.... but If the character turns out to be viable, in game.... Hopefully someone with a bit more talent will take a stab at him:

I really don't see the Crotch controversy.. but If I shell out 3K for a uni it'll be to my specs.
I put it beneath the belt line so that the polygon wouldn't be split between the torso and the waist. Putting it on the underwear/bottoms layer made it clear it would not suffer from two part costuming if/when they split the polygons for actual character animation

im all for the crotch button ^_^
though with how their emblem slider is looking to work there shouldnt be an issue with moving it around to be ahlf torso half underwear line. Of course it might only be slidable around the individual body sections it was assigned to but they havent clarified that yet.

''HENRI by NAME, HENRI by... erm... nature''...
...should have thought that through a bit more.
Fantastic work, I love the surface details.
If they split the costuming options between quadrants (waist splitters usually) and polygons it's very likely the costume options will not split between them. Creating an overlay on the polygon would suggest that the sizes cannot change (something I already suspect to happen in the end). And even IF they treat the entire body as a polygon as they show in their concept art they would have to layer the emblem on top of the rest of the tights (or skin.. or whatever) in order to move it. I took that into account when designing. I used the lowest common denominator to be sure that even without the tech in place yet and layering in place the concept I created could come to fruition.
I did go ahead and shell out the bling so I can't wait to see what comes from the uniforms. The platform boots on Apokalyptykult's singer on Update #10 sealed the deal. I was wary of silver age comic Mecha-Robots because I prefer modern/future lore comics but i was very aware that the actual character creator is a ways off (even if it is one of the first things being released from the studio). This is why I took their design choices to mind before creating the uniform I wanted (and asked a PLETHORA of questions too).
I look forward to seeing Kontrol's 3d sculpting and working with the devs on making her come to virtual life. I don't play alts. I don't particularly love playing paper dolls even when the paper is pixels. I now have assurance my costume will make it in, I look forward to combat and FX to finish the vision.

Since my hands tend to microtremors from carpal tunnel pains I pretty much have to sketch an idea in stick figure and then beat it to death over and over. :D

Well I found a model..... This Is Sleight.
he's something of a fledgling sorcerer. I figure this is a "plain clothes" outfit... something that would eventually evolve into a more mystical outfit, as he finds a tutor and becomes a Super Hero.
At level 0, he dresses something like an urban/hipster gypsy with bracelets, cuffs, rings, and necklaces of of various materials (he claim's their necessary but is vague about their purpose)
___________________________________
....Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars...
Cool!, What would his "becomes an apprentice and superhero" costume look like?
I'm thinking the vest would become a bit more.... wizardly
(either just a higher collar and more elaborate vest.. or have it turn into a sleeveless waistcoat or even sleeveless-cloak)
(this sort of vibe http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/153/f/8/dr_strange_black_costume_by_carstenbiernat-d67jtfv.jpg, but where the trunk and butt-cape are one piece, overtop of an undersuit))
My thoughts on a world where superheroes are real and normal, is that more idealistic youths would see the classic "tights" as sort of a badge of honor... or a symbol of what sort of hero they wan't to be...
and so, in that vein, I think i'd give him something like a "cloak over superhero tights" kind of vibe with an under suit of dark purple and black with accents of that sandy-white (similar to his color scheme now).... and perhaps the vest-cloak would be a blue color, instead of black.
But I was sort of thinking about how in COX you sort of had to work up/earn your first new character slot (at least, back when I was playing) and so I think the look above would be (depending on how I can work, in the CC) would be his look for a while... and it's only when he "comes back from K'un-Lun" that he's got his cool new "modern wizard's robes"
___________________________________
....Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars...
I don't agree that tights define the hero. Heroes come in many outfits.
That said, it's your character and you may decide that He connects heroism with tights. For myself, I'd expect his clothing to become more eccentric and more 'formal'.
I like the idea of keeping the Vest... longer, with more flare, and I like the big silvery buttons. I'd swap the baseball shirt for something flashier, something almost 'piratical'. Perhaps a Fedora or 'robin-hood-hat', instead of the baseball cap. Short leather boots for the sneakers. Perhaps a full-blown Cloak, instead of a cape... unless he heeds Edna's advice. And, yeah, keep the bracelets and pins and charms. Don't go full 'Rapper Bling', though.
Be Well!
Fireheart
no no, i'm not saying 'tights define a hero'
rather.... 'im suggesting that in a world where superheroes are like celebrities... young heroes will likely adopt an aesthetic for themselves that matches those heroes with their same ideals...
i.e. kids dressing like their heroes...
and SINCE tights, in general, are more of a classic silver-to-bronze age look, it would not be unlikely of such looks (in the minds of fledgling heroes) still represented those ideas about heroism... and so would be emulated by individuals seeking to uphold those same ideals...
sort of how we have "emo" or "goth" or "hipster" kids nowdays.. adhereing to an ideological model that defines how they should dress.... only with superheroes.
...make sense?
___________________________________
....Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars...
:(
that's supposed to be two shirts layered.... I'm not an artist..
and that's not a baseball cap... it's supposed to be a pork pie (something like this)..... again, I'm no artist. :-/
I've actually bounced back and forth on this one... see, his original concept was intended to be like "young urbanite who happens to do magic" so the sneakers kind of set him apart (a sort of "anti-magical establishment" statement)
but I've decided to make him more of a fledgling sorcerer... he can do things.... but he's untrained.... and so once he became "part of the fold" his look would evolve...
SO it could go either way, really.
he'll never have a full blown cloak or even a cape (apart from the "tails" of his vest, if I go that route).... think more like... King of Fighter's Iori.... but with the vest being the long part, instead of his dress shirt (or as if his coat and shirt were one piece, and sleevless.) Yun and Yang are another example of the vest idea... but it would be more western aesthetic then chinese....
basically I want his end design to be a hybrid of his current look and a superhero tights costume... with the non-tights elements evolving into the more bombastic quality of comic book wizards/sorcerers (big collars, long fabrics, etc)

so, this is my take on a fully "tighted up" Moxie.... the Outfit is essentually a onsie, but with short, instead of brief, bottoms and a color change to highlight the shorts aspect
The "M' design would become a bit more elongated and styalized, and I gave her more heroic boots and gloves...
still no mask, cause I can't figure out how to draw one onto this particular model (it's got no nose! :p)

:P
yeah, but that's just a domino mask :P
Not actually sure if that's what Moxie would go for... maybe not enough pazzaz ;P
especially not if there's an option to make it be a big old M (http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/039/3/1/scarlet_witch_by_barfast-d4p1n9s.jpg) :P :P

There you go.
Hey artists. I was about to pay an illustrator $2000 for 20 pages of sequential art for my comic book and was encouraged to buy a tablet instead and create my own art. I have not worked digitally before but think i'll be much better at editing my lines than I can with an actual pencil and eraser. My questions are:
- What type of tablet would you go for? iPad? PC? Any particular brand really kickass?
- Any particular software you really like for drawing sequentials and cell-gutters? I tend not to draw in the cell-gutter style so i'll likely be cutting and editing my own shapes but if there's some techniques then that'd be great.
- Finally when drawing backgrounds any "wish I knew" tips? I tend to hate drawing backgrounds because they require so much nuance and set so much of the tone of the story.. but I know setting is necessary.
So yeah. Any tips on where to spend my time and money are appreciated

The type of tablet you go for matters next to nothing. Honestly even the size of the tablet makes no difference in my experience. What tablet you get has little effect on how good you draw. You can go to BestBuy and get a tablet from 50-100 bucks.
Where Tablets differ is if you want a built in display like a Cintiq or the basic tablet. Basic tablets will take some getting used to as your hand/eye coordination develops. Cintiqs' though are very expensive but you're looking and drawing on the tablet as apposed to drawing and looking at your monitor.
Programs. Same boat. If you have experience with Photoshop then go with that. Manga Studio is also very much used. Both programs allow you to draw and color. You just need to learn the program when it comes to layers, brush options, color options...ext.
Right now I recommend you go very cheep to see if you like it. My early days as a digital artist was spend using my mouse and MSPaint... O.O Tablets definitely help because the motions feel more natural. When I can afford to drop 2k on a 22' Cintiq that's my next goal. Until then my 50$ Intuos does just fine.
Bear in mind that doing sequential art is something that is going to take a lot of effort to become adequate at, let alone good.
1. Wacom is the industry standard for tablets, partly because of the quality of their product and partly because they have good relationships with software vendors so their drivers work well with all the major software packages. In my experience, the size of the tablet does matter. I used a small version for a few years and when I upgraded to the 10"x14" it made it easier to work digitally and my art got a boost.
In the near future I'm planning on getting a Galaxy Note 10.1 for sketching. It's pen uses Wacom technology and its got pretty decent responsiveness. Seems a viable poor man's answer to the Cintiq.
2. I have Manga Studio Ex 5 but I've been too busy/lazy to really learn it yet. The majority of my art is done in PS CS5. Photoshop has a functionality called adjustment layers, one of which allows you automatically create an outline on whatever you paint in a layer. So when doing sequentials, I make a big white box that covers the page and then I erase in a line to create gutters between panels.
3. There isn't any real shortcut to doing backgrounds. You just have to get a grip on perspective drawing, foreshortening figures, etc. You should also get some familiarity with cinematic principles that apply to comics, like the 180 degree rule.
This thread has tons of useful info relating to comics:

Digital is okay, but sometimes a good old pencil and paper is best to learn the basics. It will take a few years to get it down, so don't get frustrated.
My art rules are:
1- Draw from life.
2- Draw from the masters.
3- Draw from yourself.
4- If you are not doing 1-3 you're wasting time.
Also $100 dollars a page is the going rate for a professional artist.
Neil Gaiman gives me all the advise I need here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEKheZs2dkg :)
Anyhow.. took some time over the weekend to draw another SG mate so.. Here's Sarge:

I love Neil Gaiman, and the cartoon is true of all arts. :)
