So, I know this is admitting a certain amount of vanity on my part, but it is really beginning to bother me that the forum doesn't track # of views on threads.... either a universal tally or a unique tally...
In most situations this number wouldn't really matter... replies are a decient enough indicator... but as I've begun writing stories in the background second of the forum I've come to acknowledge just how important it is, to feel like I have something of a readership.
I know that makes me something of an attention whore.... but It's more than just "hey look at me!"...
It's the silent knowledge that what you're doing is enjoyable to someone else... without necessarily needing the "praise" of replies.....
I'm fairly certain this is just a switch that needs to be turned on, in the forum settings... but I don't know if there is a specific reason why the MWM has decided not to have views tallied.
If there is, I can live with it... but if it's just an oversight.... or just waiting to see if anyone noticed/cared.....
....well.... I do.

I have no idea as to what is causing this. Add this to the list of "stuff that is broken with the built in forums".
Hell, I was considering using Drupal for CMS for a website I had planned... but I also wanted to use a set of forums with it.
The performance of this set of forums however (which I believe *are* drupal standard, with possibly an extension or two to add more "functionality" to it), is leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.
and yes, I feel that a "view count" is actually a good think (overall), because it *does* at least let you know if it is being read, or just being ignored. Hell, I wonder how many people have actually *read* the announcements by the devs...
....what announcements?

There are other things that would be handy (such as a dev tracker, dev's actually showing up as a different color compared to normal users (would prevent the confusion as to who is who around here), and a couple of other tid bits

We have forums?
Who needs forums? Just feed random Internet scrapings into a Markov chain random post generator and bask in all the invective you want...
Has anyone seen my mind? It was right here...
You also need to have it periodically display nothing but "Server too busy" more or less at random, but at least several times a session. For extra flavor.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is.
On the CoH forums at the end i went by the name Schismatrix.
Post hoc ergo propter hoc.
So, along with tallying views, could the devs please also include the thing-a-ma-whatzit that lin mentioned? I'd like to just compile a list of things I usually say as a reply to other people's posts and have the forum just do it for me. I hate having to read.

That gets implemented at the web server level. some kind of boneheaded logic like "If server load > 2 then display 'Server Too Busy' and close the socket."
