The Incredibles

So we're watching The Incredibles again, and I just wanted to put a few thoughts out there.

While this movie is animated and children *can* watch it, it certainly isn't made for children.

It's a better spy movie than a lot of James Bond films.

Mr. Incredible flat-out *murders* those minions. Don't try to explain how he didn't.

Disney has missed an opportunity to make more money than God (not that they don't already) by not making the Incredibles Universe an MMO. Good thing we now have City of Titans. =)

My wife only understood what I was doing in City of Heroes when I was making a family of superheroes after watching The Incredibles with me. And then she joined me.

This movie is an excellent example (like, the *only* one) that shows that you can write a good, smart, strong story about a loving couple and not have it suck. Well, Charles Soule has too. Okay, this and Superman - Wonder Woman. ;-)

The Incredibles is an example of a perfect movie. End of discussion (unless you want to laud more well-deserved praise on it). ;-)

The biggest question I have

The biggest question I have about the Incredibles is what happened to all the super-villains when the heroes were forced into retirement? You'd think that Baron von Ruthless would jump at the chance to complete his schemes without Frozone interfering.

Good point, something I've wondered about. Here's some theory:

Though it is never explicitly said one way or another, I get the idea that the heroes were fighting low-grade villains and common criminals mainly, the kind that could be dealt with with police, just with a higher risk of injury and death. Perhaps with imprisonment, suppression of powers, mind wipes ,and death the population of super villains was lowered to a point that they were a controllable threat and the population is just starting now to bounce back.

Or the government cynically timed the retirement for a point when all major villains were imprisoned (mind wiped, killed, etc).

Another, another theory:

Another, another theory:

Once there were no heroes left to fight, the villains faded away. After all, what is the point of being Baron von Ruthless if there's no one to monologue to and you're the only one running around in a silly suit.

Even the joker has said that it's no fun without the Bat.

Wait until you see the... nope, that would ruin the surprise.

Yeah and I believe that is an underline theme that Alan Moore was trying to address in Watchman. That superheroes/heroines are all sexual wish fulfillment that is why many are portrayed with ideal proportions no matter how outrageous.

In Watchman book, Daniel Dreiberg is suffering from impotence since his retirement because the costume is such an addictive adrenaline rush that anything else can't get Daniel's bird out the cage, so to speak. There's a panel that shows Daniel and Laurie Juspeczyk beating some Topknot muggers and after words are so turned on that they look at each other intensely but decided not to act on the impulse, after all Laurie was still faithful to Doc Manhattan during this point . Laurie even reached for a cigarette to calm her nerves after such a rush.

http://geek-news.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/tumblr_lgoh7zxpql1qdsdmoo1_500.jpg <---Poor Daniel, his face totally reads "Dang I should've done something!!!"

Alan Moore even has the Minutemen and Watchmen members all be sexual deviants with their own little kinks and problems from being into S&M to gay/lesbian relationships. Rorschach is actually sexual repressed since he doesn't dare act upon his feelings for Niteowl, that is why he's the most unbalanced and violent of the group. As for Dr. Manhattan, he's actually bored with sex. This is explained why he's so distant with people and always trying new things in bed.

Of course this is only my theory and one that can be expanded upon even more.

May the wings of liberty never lose a feather

there was a more direct

there was a more direct reference to a villain that only committed crtimes so he could be beat up by the heroes. He enjoyed it. It worked well until he tried it on rorshach.

Wait until you see the... nope, that would ruin the surprise.

I realize I'm necroposting to

I realize I'm necroposting to this thread but I just read the great news today that Disney confirmed that they are finally going to make a sequel to The Incredibles.

I've been hoping they would eventually get around to doing this for years. The original always reminded me of CoH (at least the parts where they were running around in the city areas) and if the timing is right this new sequel might end up being released around the time CoT is ready to launch. That'd be really cool "synergy" for this game.

My theory is that the only reason we didn't see this before things like Cars 2 is because Cars 2 presented much more lucrative merchandising opportunities.

That said, I'm glad they have come to their senses. I can't wait.

Honestly, I'm curious if

Honestly, I'm curious if Disney begged Pixar for a sequel to Incredibles just as they did Toy Story.

That being said... YES! YES YES! I do hope the villains who show up (Because that had better be the main point. DON"T BE KICKASS 2 and revolve around HitGirl in school -.-) are more of the classic Silver Age stereotypes. Second I saw Bomb Voyage, I knew the movie was gonna rule. One idea would be that all the villains just went into hiding after the heroes retired and have meetings like in Wreck-It Ralph. Once the supers start coming back out, MASSIVE Legion of Doom-type meeting to plan and plot how to defeat them once and for all... and of course you have that one guy in the back who asks "..then what do we do?"

Apparently, a major "problem"

Apparently, a major "problem" with doing an Incredibles 2 was ... you'd need Brad Bird (director and voice of Edna Mode). Brad was brought in to "shake things up" at Pixar doing the first Incredibles movie, and boy did he ever deliver! But since then, he's been busy with all kinds of other projects, making a decision to green light an Incredibles 2 movie something of a "wait until the stars align" sort of thing (on top of all the other more typical issues involved in making movies) just for getting the right PEOPLE involved in doing various jobs.

That said, it would be an absolute coup of the first order if they could get Lynda Carter to voice the villain(ess) for Incredibles 2. That's just me wishing, though.
