Female Patriotic Hero Help!

Alright, in short, after seeing the concept art of a as yet unamed African American patriotic heroine, I figured I had to create a heroine to match that, can't let the devs show me up now can I? ;)

So now, my fellow forumites, heroes, and villains in waiting, help me develop a short backstory for a character based on these three themes: Patriotism, Empowerment by the Goddess of victory, Nike, and youth

The name is Maiden America....GO!!! :)

Honor...justice...truth.

Honor...justice...truth. Words that often don't seem to mean much these days. However Rebecca Kaukuras felt differently. Rebecca's mother was a police officer killed in the line of duty when she was fourteen. Her father, a coach at Titan City University, raised her with all the love and attention he possessed. Her anger at her mother's death became the driving force as she began participating in sports, a link which drew she and her father even closer together. She received a track and field scholarship to Titan City U. where she majored in Criminology and minored in Physical Education. Little did she know that her life in college was going to take a turn for the strange.

Rebecca was studying in the library late one weekend when she saw a flash of lightning right outside the window. She went out to investigate and saw a strange-looking woman lying in the grass. The woman, tall, athletic and dressed in ancient-looking clothing, appeared to be stunned but alive. The woman awoke and spoke to Rebecca in a foreign language, all the while pressing a laurel wreath into her hands. Rebecca took the wreath, not knowing what else to do, and the woman faded from view. She was still puzzling over what had just happened when a shadowy spot opened on the ground in front of her.

"Mortal..." she heard in an ominous voice as if from all around her, "...give me the laurel." Rebecca backed away from the growing spot on the ground as it seemed to grow and take shape. Within moments she was staring at a tall figure made of pure darkness. "The laurel..." the thing commanded as it stretched forth a hand," ...I will not ask again."

Rebecca, not knowing what else to do, slid the laurel on her head as she turned to run. There was a bright flash and the shadow-thing roared in frustration and anger. When the stars had cleared from her eyes Rebecca had been transformed into the likeness of the woman she had seen lying on the ground. It was then that an image appeared in her mind.

"Thank you child, you have done me a great service." she heard in her head. "You have aided my servant and prevented a great wrong from being done."

"I don't know what's going on," Rebecca said to the empty air. "I just wanted to help."

"Indeed, I sense that the desire to help is strong within you. I am Nike, goddess of Victory. The woman you aided was one of my followers entrusted to carry one of three items of power. The laurels are a symbol of victory and grant my blessing on those that are worthy. Another artifact, a scroll of Truth, has been missing for many centuries and has yet to be found. The third item, a belt of courage, is now in the clutches of my enemies. If they were ever to hold all three artifacts then your world would face a terrible darkness."

"What can I do then?" Rebecca asked the air again. "Will more of those things come after me?"

"Indeed they will but I will aid you if you are willing. Become my champion...protect the laurel and what it represents. Help me find the scroll and return the belt to me. The path will be difficult but I sense a strength in you that you have not even dreamed you possess."

All subject to change of course but what do you think?

I remember when Star Wars was cool...a long, long time ago...

When you are from a foreign

When you are from a foreign country, at least originally, many people can look down on you. You take the work that is offered, no matter how 'demeaning' that other's consider it to be. You work long hours and go home tired. For much of my life, that has been me.

When I finished with school each day I would go to the hotel where my mother worked and begin my own shift. I am sure that you think it a bit cliche that I am an immigrant daughter of immigrants and that I worked as a servant, a maid, in a hotel. It is not cliche to keep food on the table, neither is it cliche to have a good work ethic. This country offers so many things that my birth country never did, and I work every day to be worthy of the country of my heart.

Of course I am a naturalized citizen. I would never dishonor the country of my heart by being here 'illegally'.

This isn't the story of who I was, before the events of my rebirth. This is a story of my rebirth, and the birth of a legend. Many of you have come here, reading my memoirs, looking for who I was, my so called 'secret identity'. Please understand that I kept it a secret to protect those I loved as much as to protect myself. This is still a valid concern.

Summer was never a time of relaxation for me, and never was it more so that the summer after I graduated from high school. While my friends went to party and decompress before beginning college, I was trying to fill up my college fund that much more before I went. I can admit, now, that I was just a child in that far distant year of 2015. I'd turned eighteen just before school let out, and even if the government recognized me as being in my majority, I still suffered from the nearsightedness of youth.

That was the summer many of you will remember as the origin of Sublimation. That villain caused so much damage to the city before we were finally able to bring him down, but there is one thing he did that changed the course of my life forever: He killed me.

I remember wondering why traffic had slowed to a crawl. I remember how blue the sky was and the beauty of the cottony clouds. My shift at the hotel started at eight that morning, so the heat hadn't yet begun rising from the asphalt. All in all it was as close to a perfect day as you could hope for.

When the Altair Radio Tower began to shift I only had a horrifying couple of seconds to even realize what was happening before it collapsed crushing me and hundreds of other people.

In school, I loved the Greek myths. I'd never been a very religious girl, and remember thinking more than once that if I had to pick I'd worship Nike. I always saw here as an empowered woman, being the goddess of victory, and wanted to be like her.

When I awoke along the banks of the river Styx I thought I was dreaming. Charon poled the ferry until it came to a stop before me. I knew what he wanted, and even began searching my clothing for the coin he would need when a woman with golden hair and wings appeared before me.

"I'm very sorry to see you here, Angelica. I'd hoped you would live a long full life. It's been a long time since I actually had a worshiper and I'd hoped you would pass that along to your own daughters."

"Is there nothing you can do?" I replied, tears streaming down my face.

"Yours could have been a life lived well, surrounded by those you loved. A battle against apathy and hopelessness. If I send you back, you will have a much different battle to fight."

"I would fight whatever battle presents itself, Nike," I said with fervor.

"Remember in the years to come you asked for this. It's been much too long since I had a champion anyway."

The next thing I knew I was standing on the rubble of the tower. I felt different. For one, my more modern clothing had been replaced by my signature white and gold toga. I still think it goes will with my ebony skin. For another, I had wings and I knew how they should be used. I realized in that instance that I had been chosen to find victory over the very forces of greed and power madness that lead to my death.

I had been made over in her image, and given a small portion of her power. I may have been born in Angola and empowered by a Greek goddess but I love this country and everything that I am, everything I became, was because of America and as a hero I was truly made in America and so that was my name: Maiden America

That reminds me of a character from "The Tick" cartoon. Her name was "American Maid"! Yes! She *did* dress like a patriotic maid (kind of reminded me of Wonder Woman)!

Well it seems Maiden America

Well it seems Maiden America should one day team-up with my char the Fighting Patriot as both can relate to each other. Other than being patriotic heroes, ol' Pat is the wielder of Athena's shield which has been passed down from hero to hero from Perseus to Achilles, Spartacus and Galahad. The Red White and Blue Bruiser identifies the shield as Columbia as gods/goddess are always changing with the times but their essence always remains the same (give or take).

I typed a super long bio for Maiden America about how Bethany Ross was a struggling actor who was hired to play Nike in a movie called Winged Victory by movie producer Nick Goodfellow. Tragically Nick is a evil sorcerer who uses his studio to produce snuff films of ritual sacrifices. Beth dressed as Nike was killed as she quickly realized what she got self into and fled only to be shot in the back by Nick himself (who had his eye and half of his face scratched off by Beth using a prop sword). Beth was brought back to life as Nike's herald as she took sympathy to the young girl and her life of constantly chasing after her dreams of stardom and offered her the role of a life time as Madien America! The origin may be tad dark but this line I did save I think sums up what the core story should be:

"Go forth young girl and be blessed as my voice and sword arm onto the mortal plane and chase out the money lenders, the slave traders and the deviants from the cities. May they no longer hide among the good hearted and seek them out like the vile black plague that they are. You have given your life for their perverted dreams of victory and so I grant you my power so that you may give victory to your people, the common man and woman who fight their wars and pay for their wealth. I have seen their corruption spread like snakes, each time with new names just as a serpent sheds its skin anew. Cut off their head child, free all people from evil and be VICTORIOUS!"

So this speech can make Maiden America be anybody! Perhaps she was a soldier who was wrongly killed in battle or a factory worker who lost her job due to financial crisis Maiden America is the story of a nation who's struggling to come out of the darkness so she can even be the combination of every American who ever dreamed or was wronged.

I don't now if you have already stated it but I would love to hear what some of your political views are (PM if you like). I'm by no means trying to turn this into a debate but it does give a hero a sense or personal qualities to it's character. An example would be with my own hero, see when I created Fighting Patriot I only knew he would have a magical shield and as I RPed the story slowly formed around him, well needless to say Patriot has been very flexible with several interpretations. He evolved from a typical stale super solider into a patriotic 2nd class citizen who loves his country but constantly questions his leaders and the direction the country is heading.

Hope that helped spark some ideas for you Gladatoria :)

It seems that there will be

It seems that there will be no lack of patriotic-themed heroes in Titan City. In CoH, I created the Fire of Liberty, a fire/ regen scrapper. Part of Fire of Liberty's back story was that she was from a long line of women with magical flame powers. The flame - the Fire of Liberty - was usually passed from aunt to niece.

Peyton Fairchild Cabot was born into an old and wealthy family. Despite their wealth, the Cabot Family has a long tradition of public service to the United States of America. Peyton was no different. After graduating from law school, Peyton served a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps before going on to become an Assistant United States Attorney

While working for the Justice Department, Peyton began investigating a group of corrupt politicians and business leaders who were profiteering from the Rikti Invasion. Peyton attempted to expose the corruption, but this group altered the records to implicate Cabot Enterprises - the conglomerate owned by Peyton's family - in the wrongdoing.

Peyton was suspended as her family became the focus of the Justice Department's investigation. Despondent, Peyton sought the advice of her Aunt Victoria, a longtime Washington D.C. insider. Peyton was surprised when her aunt revealed that since the late 19th century, certain women in the Cabot family have been endowed with powers to become the heroine Fire of Liberty.

Victoria had been Fire of Liberty during the 1980s and 1990s, and now it was Peyton's turn. As the latest Fire of Liberty, Peyton was able to clear her family's name and expose the real corrupt business and government officials.

Peyton eventually decided to resign from the Justice Department and move to Paragon City where she joined a non-profit legal aid organization. Currently, Peyton divides her time between pro bono legal work and carrying out missions as Fire of Liberty, continuing the never-ending fight for truth, justice and liberty.

...Fighting Patriot...first

...Fighting Patriot...first of all your bio for Maiden America was not only beautifully unique, but relatable in the sense that in each of the origins constructed by all above, she was a fellow struggling American, something which I will definitely take root from...

And now, thanks to your combined assistance, I am ready to reveal Maiden America's orgin!

Here goes!

Courtney Tate, daughter of General Edward Tate of the US Army, was your typical all-American girl and then some. Raised on the often forsaken ideals of earning what you get and and braving blood, sweat and tears to accomplish what you want. Fighting tooth and nail to gain her position as a decorated clandestine operative of the Central Intelligence Agency, she fought an invisible war with the United States's enemies behind the scenes so her fellow patriots could sleep sound and unaware of the true cost of their freedom.

Serving her country not with a M16 and camo clad armor but with heels and a persuasive tongue, Courtney's patriotic roots and ideals held fast against a rising tide of scandals and corruption...not knowing her kind heart would be the tool of her death, and ultimate salvation. Dispatched on a covert operation to the bowls of South America, her mission was to recover a captured and key asset within the criminal underbelly of Columbia. Unaware of the fate awaiting her there, and that Courtney Tate's story would die with her, a new chapter, Maiden America, was just beginning...

Infiltrating the Capitol city of Bogota under the cover of night and a fabricated passport, Courtney quickly managed to peruse it's streets, corporate offices, and out skirting slums, finally gaining a later revealed piece of information that would ultimately cost Courtney her life: The 'asset' she was seeking was Valentina Decosta, the 10 year old daughter of a powerful Drug Baron who had swept into the city to recover her at any cost, whether it be civilian lives or potential business opportunities. Furthermore, her superiors ordered that not only Courtney would retrieve the girl first, but use her life as a bargaining chip to keep her father's occupation from interfering with important international relations.

Not about to betray her country, but not wanting to instill a bloody conflict within a stable nation, Courtney opted to extract the girl to the US herself, keeping her from the grasp of her blinded overseers, and her kingpin father...but she was too late. Managing to take her previous target and newfound friend to the Airport with a single, one way ticket to the United States, before it was suddenly attacked and besieged by the criminal forces of Valentina's father, desiring to recover his daughter, and kill any foolish to get within their way.

With bloodshed left in right, Courtney, rather then flee and leave the girl to the mercy of deadly killers, she braved the storm of gunfire to spirit the girl to her jet, shielding her with her body long enough to get her to safety, but was not quick enough to escape it, falling in a bloodied heap against a unfeeling linoleum floor. Dying with a smile and newfound clarity despite her state, she would voice one last thought before passing into the afterlife: 'Here's to my country...please make this right...'

Or so she thought....

Awakening upon the steps of Olympus, Courtney would be dressed in a gold lined toga, her rich blond hair tied in a bun, as she stands unmarred before a winged Valkyrie, Nike herself, who smiles upon her guest with pride...

"Greetings Courtney, and I trust you are wondering why you are here, and where you are, so I bear answers: You stand before Nike, the goddess of Victory and justice, and your patron. Furthermore, I have watched your progress and accomplishments with excitement and anticipation, you have always strived for moral justice, and your actions on this day proved it..."

Bombarded by a staggering amount of information, Courtney would attempt to form a reply, but would be cut off politely by the goddess addressing her, who would continue with a smile..

"It has been too long since I have had a mortal champion, and now more than ever one is needed again on Earth...YOU are my next champion, and I know you will serve me as well as you have your country..."

Courtney would suddenly be bathed in a blinding gold light, and her silk-white toga would be replaced with a formfitting, silver shone armor, which as she moved would shimmer with the cascading and gradient tones of red, white, and blue, her caramel hair braided behind her, with her eyes mirroring the visage of her plated body. Turning around tenderly, Courtney would gaze upon benefactor with a look of absolute bewilderment, but silently nods, everything becoming clearer as Nike finally replies...

"Go now my beautiful champion, and show the villains of this world what it means to be a Paragon, to be Victorious!"

With that, Courtney would awake in a her now armored and undamaged body, surrounded by a group of equally shocked and armed men, who would suddenly find themselves unconscious thanks to her newly gained battle knowledge. Escaping from Colombia with Valentina in tow, Courtney has since left the CIA behind, gaining a sister and a successor to her new legacy, she now fights a very different battle in the front line against evil that is Titan City. She now participates in a never ending war alongside the likes of Anthem, Rottweiler, and others against villains that would sooner see her new home in the hands of the corrupt and sinister, something she and her fellow heroes WILL not allow.

Armed with superhuman strength, speed, durability, the valor and prowess of warriors long past, and a patriotic heart no bullet will ever pierce and break.Courtney Tate died in an airport of Colombia, her secrets and past dying with her...

And in her place stands a woman who fights with the strength and courage of fellow countrymen both long past, in the present, and for their future. She is a guiding light for those trapped in the dark threads of evil, a shield for those who cannot protect themselves, and a shoulder for the common man to lean on...

She is Maiden America...

((In no way, shape or form does this bio reflect my political views, or how I feel about the US Government and my beautiful country. I just wanted this bio to reflect that there are shades of grey to every story, and second chances are opportunities to right wrongs and make things right, no matter the circumstances...))

((And having superpowers to do it is definitely a fun way to do it...:) ))

((Thoughts, concerns, praises? :) ))

Columbia is a good pick for

Columbia is a good pick for your story but if you really want to know other South American countries with a history of CIA activities then you might want to check out Nicaragua. In the Regan years CIA was allegedly running coke and guns with the Contras. In 1954 the CIA over threw the Guatemalan president using television, the operation was called PBSUCCESS so Big Bird is a government agent.

US Department of Defense opened up a training facility called the School of Americas (its been renamed Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation) that trained many South American dictators and Las Zetas who are Mexico's paramilitary drug dealers. Even Teddy Roosevelt sent government agents to banks south of the border to cook their books and move around money so they can keep the countries down and in a desperate worker state for American factories. Their countless wars raged over to control the price of products such as the Banana Wars and the Strawberry Wars. Since the Monroe doctrine USA has been up in South America's business.

I think American Maiden should be a patriotic agent who is trying to do the best for her country and gets caught up in these dark conspiracies which costs her her life. Of course she comes back to life with Nike's blessing, just love the idea of Maiden being a divine being full of furious righteousness who is set out to right the country's wrongs and in the process redeem a nation.

A great suggestion, one which

A great suggestion, one which I will definitely think about in applying...:)

And just a question...any idea what job Maiden America should take now that she is officially away from the CIA? I was personally thinking about having Courtney run Victoriacore Security Solutions, a company that will offer protection services over clientele in Titan City, both profit and nonprofit for citizens who have found themselves without safety in a violent world.

Unique to her corporation, not only will Victoriacore investigate all scenarios and situations with the information provided, and after determining if no red flags are within the contractor's history or current dealings, they offer either low rate pays to those who can or free of charge service based on each target's financial situation. Also, Courtney herself will participate in protection when no other avenues are available, the client is in super powered danger or similar circumstances, or the scenario requires her expertise.

And even as her company does need profit within the wrong run, 35% of her revenue is given back to her clients, to charities, local super groups, emergency services, regional businesses, and most recently, military installations.

Thoughts?

I think a security company is a great idea. Maybe have Courtney use a new identity to cover her tracks as a rich businesswoman so you can have a female Bruce Wayne vibe going on and it helps explain all the crimefighting tech she would use (she can write it off as a business expense lol). If you turn this security company into a supergroup of heroes for hire then count me! I'll love to join with Patriot or some other character that could fit the mold.

Sounds great, and I was

Sounds great, and I was personally thinking Victoriacore could be the 'day job' front for a patriotic supergroup, as it provides the group with funding, tech, staff and such..intrested?

Any idea what Courtney's new alias should be?

Anything that sounds good to

Anything that sounds good to you.

But if want some ideas maybe Martha Sinclair or Vanessa Montgomery. I think you should even give her a title to her name like Lady Charlotte Buchanan or even more exotic Countess Helen von Sieg or Madam Victoria Vittoria.

If you want a pun in your name you can use Victoria as a first name since it has victory in the name. As for a last name you can use translate victory in any language so Sieg would be german, vittoria Italian and so on.

That's a good one Gladatoria, sounds like a dame you wouldn't want to mess with. Which is perfect for a security company.
