In some MMOs you get a few stances but nothing major. In CO you can pick the default standing there stance. You can pick a Sexy stance. A beast stance so that you're squating down like a wolf character. A tough stance so that you look like ya about to rip ya shirt apart. DC has roughly the same but with a comic relief stance where you stand with ya foot sticking out. But MXO I remember the most because it had lots of choices. You could change your stance but i think it was called mood setting to injured so not only did you stand holding your arm up close like you were losing blood. You also ran as if you were injured. Any chance of us seeing stuff like that? Pick a stance or set your posture so that not only do you stand that way, but also run and act that way. Be fun to be able to pick a samurai stance and have my samurai hero actually move like a samurai rather then look like one but be standing straight up and running like a normal person.

I love, love, LOVE this idea! Adds all that much flavor to your character.
I love this too! If this gets added in, it'd be great if it wasn't tied to the whole character and could be adjusted from a costume-to-costume basis. :)
That's why I liked how MxO handled it. You could change on the fly. You weren't stuck with the same stance forever.

Can't remember MxO had such stances. Also I didn't played the rerelease version (MxO 2.0 or what it was called).
But I'll guess I'll take a look into it.
MxO had moods, like SWG wich where available AFTER character creation.
Or did you ment the "on the fly change" of the your build?
Means: Operator -> Hacker and so on.
I might be able to find some old videos we made back in MxO :).
Yes I know MxO has been shut down last year or the year before. But I'll guess I still have the client somewhere with some stuff in it ;).
Edit: Found atleast some video material:

Yea I guess they was moods. But they changed the way you stood and walked and run. I liked how that worked.

Great idea to have a whole range of movement types and stances that you could choose as default for each character. I wouldn't mind seeing a limp or clutched arm when wounded, either. But I don't think I'd want it to affect actual combat. It never does in the movies, right? :D "fighting through the pain" just makes it seem more heroic!

Stances probably isn't the right place for this; but in the absence of a fly pose thread...
CoH/CoV had 5 flight poses which were great; I'd like to see CoT a) expand on those options, and b) have you choose your character's standard flight pose when you choose the power, but also give you the option to alter your flight pose mid flight e.g. /flypose1, /flypose2 etc. Also, is we could have some options like flight auras and effects (boot thrusters, palm thrusters, back thrusters etc.) that's be great.
Also, the same applies for hopefully multiple options for /superspeedpose, /teleportpose, /superjumppose, and so on.
You've got my vote for stances :) Changing your stance in CO changes the look of your character tremendously. I'd love to see similar in CoT.
I like stances, but hope they are not too extreme. Especially the ones in DCUOnline are... really extreme. Tone it down a bit, I say. There should be a difference between "seductive" and looking as if one's avatar is about to start twerking.
Two words for y'all: idle animations
Okay, technically, there are actually several variants of it that we'll need to make sure are "compounded" right, but the Unreal system has some tricks that should work to our advantage there. This is not a promise, by any stretch, but things I would not be surprised at all to see (because, well, we used a very pared-down version of them in the demo) would be "normal idle" (just standing around), "flight idle", and what I will tentatively call a "combat idle", which is the 'neutral pose' used when in combat but not playing a specific animation. Any of these could potentially have "as many options as the Art department can come up with and the Business department will approve".
Whether it can switch "in sync" with costumes as a no-brainer is a lot less clear, but at the very worst it should be straightforward to have "some equivalent of" a macro that fires both a costume change and an animation-set update for you. This set of stuff depends on some technical details around *exactly* how we implement variant animations (as in, things down in the gory details could have impact out this far), so I'm afraid that it isn't possible to get more detailed than that, yet.
However, a *lot* of this, or at least how it would be set up in the game, hinges on at least one crucial detail that we won't be able to determine for at least a couple weeks yet (it involves how the engine handles a couple of specific things, internally). Signs that a clean and elegant solution would be possible are… hopeful, but not more than that.

That does it! If this game doesn't allow for teddybear bodysuits that can be ripped off so that I can dazzle my enemies with my nude latex bikini I'm going to blame you personally. ;)

As always thanks for the info. If there's any way to eventually have something like CO's Stances and/or better working Fly Poses from CoH that'd be great.

Some future AI civilization is going to try and parse that sentence and spontaneously explode because of it.
How can you simultaineously be nude and yet still wearing some piece of clothing?
Is it the latex itself that's considered nude? Do we need to wear clothes on our clothes?
Shall we be like TF2 and have circumstances where our hats can wear other hats?

I hope we get the CoH Walk Emote back.
I love you for this. Idle animations please. Marvel Heroes makes me SO happy in that category. Also they can prevent the problem of AFK persons occupying "kiosk space" when people need to interact with them

Well I think it was clear I was making a joke with the overall sentence.
But as far as the "nude latex bikini" phrase goes the word "nude" was an adjective to describe the color of the latex (as opposed to red, black or something else). I see how that could have been weird to think I was saying my character would be nude (no clothes on) and wearing a bikini at the same time.
Still I did like your mental image of "some future AI civilization" trying to parse what I wrote. I imagine the passing reference to Miley will be enough to make them explode regardless of the "nude bikini". ;)

I do as well. It was probably a little too overtly "sexy" for some of my female characters but it worked well for others. I guess in a perfect world we could have several versions of Walk to choose from but again I'll be happy to at least have some version of it.
I know a lot of people dismissed it because it "forced" you into RP mode by locking down most of the rest of your powers. It'll be interesting to see if they decide to give us some kind of a Walk that doesn't have that side effect.

I found it strange in that CoX had to *add in * the walk facility, when most other MMO's have it as standard (with the side bonus of still being able to use abilities if need be.
I suppose this is a good indicator that shows us that the Devs of any game are forced to prioritize which features they provide.
Apparently the original Devs of CoH figured we'd all be too busy wanting to zip around at top speed smashing bad guys to worry about simply Walking. They did account for the Sprint powers, but again that's something that helped people move faster, not slower. It was probably also a question of having to provide a whole different set of "walking combat" animations that they never got around to creating. That's probably why it was just simpler to give us a Walk that also effectively prevented us from fighting at the same time.
Hopefully the mechanisms to allow us to have a Walk without power suppression will be possible in the new game.

Consider the fact that with CoH's system of augmenting movement, if they DIDN'T shut down all your other Powers, it very well might have been possible for PCs to "walk" at an absurdly fast rate of speed, thereby completely wasting the effort of implementing it. Hence, far easier to put everyone onto a "single" baseline Walk speed, and the best way to ENSURE that happened correctly is to ... Shut Down All Other Powers because of how the Game Engine worked.

I always thought it was perfect for my namesake and a couple of my favorite alts, so I loved it, and therefore totally biased.
Yeah I suppose walking at like 20 or 30 MPH would sort of defeat the purpose. ;)
But that kind of thing was clearly a symptom of trying to add a feature on top of an existing system that wasn't really geared for it in the first place. Again hopefully the CoT Devs will keep this in mind and at the very least construct the movement system so that new forms of movement don't have to be kludged in or arbitrarily constrained as an afterthought.

One method that I can see working:
Power enabled: movement speed = 4 mph unmodifiable.
I'd like to add "battle stances" to this topic. I pretty sure none of us would stand the same way in a combat situation, so neither should our heroes.
Defend, Honor, Serve, Fall, Rise of the Phoenix
We are Heroes...this is what we do.
You know, this could be a good market feature. While I wouldn't put Walk on there, a battle stance I think would be a perfect idea for a cash shop item.
It's not something that would effect game play, purely cosmetic, and not to costume related.
I'd assumed that battle stances would go under the combat animation.. if you have a staff animation chosen then the stance animation would reflect the staff. If you chose the ninjitsu animation pack then you'd stand like a ninja when in combat.

What I never understood was why the CoX Walk emote made you unable to use your powers. Why would I be unable to walk with my Electric shields up, or with my pistols drawn? Truly nutty.
I also hope to see at least one Walk emote in CoT, and multiple Flight positions would be nice. But I realize we cannot have everything at once.
Not sure what your overall history with CoH was but the Walk power was something they added to the game as a QoL improvement years after launch.
The main reason why using that power caused your other powers to shut off had to do with how the combat animations were baked into each body model. Long story short it was easier for the Devs to simply prohibit the use of most powers with Walk than it was for them to figure out a way to get all the baked-in animations to look "right" while using any other power while Walking. Basically it was a fundamental limitation of the CoH system that led to the compromise we had to live with. That limitation also affected how the "Flight Poses" ended up working in CoH too.
The hopes are that with CoT it'll be much easier for them to provide things like a Walk power or Flight Poses that won't be so locked-in to how any other movement animation works.

Though, in CoH, if you had a character with no toggles, you could easily toggle it on and off as you did a mission and it was FUN!
Liked dc online stances, just example i liked

I just hope that the stances aren't ALL cheesy and the walk animations aren't powerwalking like in CO. Know how embarassing it is when the big bad Nightmare works his way across a room looking like he's trying to inconspicuously get to the bathroom? CoH got the speed and fluidity of walking perfect.. only thing they needed was more than one normal stance and walk.

I would like to see a "regal" stance full of dignity and gravitas. At least this one should look good for robes and gowns.
Additionally:
- Soldier (with marching as the movement animation)
- Dastardly (You cannot stop Maestro Handlebar! *rubs hands*)
- Hunchback (for the Mad Science Minion set?)
- Staggering (Zombies, Frankenstein's Monster)
There should be Super Speed Stances as well, just like Flight stances. Some of these ideally would non-running animations - you simply walk, either sped up (after all, why run when you can walk faster than a peregrine falcon dive-bombs?) or as a Seven-League-Boots effects, where you move normally, but still cross distances within incredibly short time.
