Comics Have so many different kinds of lore.. I wanted to try to list as many lore types as I could think Lets make some lists:
Espionage/Politics: SHIELD / SWORD are great versions of this lore. Generally deals with a lot of secrets and emerging threats.
Military: Hulk vs Military establishment was a big theme I've seen repeated. It's kind of weirdly rare that military is seen as the "good guys" in comics and instead combat hungry zealots but it works for Captain America (long as he's not wearing camouflage)
Science: Iron Man is in a constant battle to be the best tech available and make sure dangerous tech doesn't get in the wrong hands. This is both technological and biological advances.. Super-Serum's fall in this one too. Often these stories can be intermixed with tales of corporate greed and more.
Noir: Batman defines the genre. I also like how Daredevil gets there. Usually dealing with Detective/Vigilante dark heroes. Lots of Cape and Cowel play and detective themes in run down neighborhoods.
Alien: Alien Invasions and plots to take over or destroy the planet are great for ANY type of hero. AND any type of villain. Usually almost every "race" of alien is also at war with each other almost inexplicably
Sorcery: There always seems to be some epic "battle for the other realms" going on with sorcerers. A lot of comic lore puts good magic vs bad magic but no one really knows.
Social Commentary: Whether they be humans who hate Titans or entire groups trying to stop an oppressed group this one is common but not in MMORPG. It can feel like a political stance. Characters like the "Purifiers" and "Church of Humanity" tend to bring religious and racial overtones usually avoided.
Gods: Whether it be Thor in Asgard or Wonder Woman in Olympus the classic Norse, Greek (Not yet Roman), or Egyptian.. there always seems to be a place for them. So long as the religion is considered mythologica
Time/Dimension Travel: The thought of existing on a parallel dimension or different timeline is popular (much more so in the 90s). I think in MMOs it could be as simple as re-skinning some things (as done with Champions' "Multifaria").
Horror: I know it's still unpopular to adult kids but Vampires, Warewolves, Ghosts and Ghouls are still great escapes for even the strongest canon. Hell Dr. Frankenstein just appeared in X-Men.
Zombie: I have yet to really see zombie integrated into superhero comic books (mostly because nothing stays dead naturally in comics) but there's no reason it can't be in a MMORPG.
Fantasy: Pixies, Faeries, Dragons and Elves have started to make more of a presence in comics.. not as much as I would think.. but they are definitely starting to show up.
Atlantis/Lemuria: Still considered the lamest of all (by me) but Aquaman and Namor are some of the original gamesters the lore exists but not as predominantly loved IMHO

Any big pieces of lore I missed? Anything misdefined?
I really hope City of Titans gives us a big mix of "good ole fashioned crime" and all of the lore listed above for our titans to take on

I have another one for you: Exploration: There is a subset of super-hero comics where the main characters are invested in exploration and seeking out strange new worlds, etc. Examples would be the Challengers of the Unknown from DC and at least some of the Fantastic Four's adventures.
I'm not sure all of those count as "lore types" (they stuck me more as "themes") but I would like to add "Space Cops" to the list... from the Lanterns and Novas to groups like the Guardians, there is definitely a rich history of intergalactic peacekeepers with representatives from many different worlds....
