With specifications like the Bastion, Bulwark, and Centurion I am guessing so.
I can't describe how much I miss tanking a whole room full of mobs.
Anyone else hoping for a Giant Growth tanking power set?

I'm just hoping that there will be a Shield powerset for my Stalwart to use.
I also miss tanking. Right now I'm playing a Jedi Guardian over on SWTOR.. and it's just not the same!
I want my Invunerability/Super Strength back!!
I truly miss the ability to make the mobs want to punch me in the face and ignore the rest of my team.

That's definitely an admirable -- and essential -- quality for a Tank!

I miss playing my Fire/Axe Tanker, who couldn't last more than a few hits. Thank glob for Rise of the Phoenix. Sadly, my SG would not let me main tank with him unless we had both bubbles AND sonic.
My buddy Wulf would play his Dark brute like that.. he'd Tank by jumping in... dying, and hitting the Dark rez.. then go ballistic :)
It was... surprisingly effective....
One question I have is in terms of Taunts. Will the system be set up to be able to taunt. >.> Cause I really hate that in CO being a tank is almost useless because you can't taunt anything. You just hope you can hold threat but the DPS saps up threat like water. Be nice to have taunts and maybe even attack taunts or something that if I hit that button I'll have the enemies swarming me and not totally ignoring me.

Wrong place to bring it up, I know (and I will post there, too), but I got tired of my female Tanks (or any other AT) not having the ability to look MUSCULAR. I hope the Female form will have the option (via sliders, likely) to look like she could actually toss cars around, if such a look is so desired.
Related I hope they have a "fat" model... I dunno a lot about the Unreal body models but I imagine there's quite a bit of flexibility in them.
I'm really looking forward to getting chance to tank again. I only got one toon tank past say 10th level and found it very eye-opening after playing squishies (stalkers, corruptors, trollers) as long as I had.

Yeah I loved Tanking. I had macros set up when I tanked like 'When the Ice Slick goes off, bring the pain'
I remember when Star Wars was cool...a long, long time ago...
I think a fat power set (like the Blob) might be neat for tanking too. A power that sticks you too the floor. A power that absorbs physical ranged attacks then reflects them back. A power that causes melee attackers to stick to you. Stuff like that, though I couldn't see it being a set at release.
It won't be Fat per se, you can make your toon any way you want, then your power would be: Knockback Protection/Self/Stance or something like that. I don't know how passives will work.

This piece of awesomeness comes courtesy of Zombie Man. So what's your flavor; Melee, Assault, or Manipulation?
If they are similar to the CoH sets, Melee will likely be mostly melee attacks, Assault will be a combination of melee and ranged attacks with a buff or two, and Manipulation will be combination of melee attacks, buffs, and maybe a control.
Yeah, but so many games make it hard to pull the threat to you as the tank. In CoH, you had 3 tools at your disposal: Guantlet, a ranged AoE Taunt, and some kind of Aura with a taunt component. You could very effectively, even in the low levels, keep the aggro on you and off your team. apparently, other games seem to think this is broken :/

CO has taunts, but they're hidden in advantages for other powers. Good luck playing a tank without them though! For CoT I would strongly suggest a clear, separate "Taunt" power with a name that makes it obvious what it does (i.e. "Taunt") and not tied to other, incompatible powers (like block breaking in CO, which of course every DPS wants...).

I would really like to have the old days back, ones before taunt and aoe caps. It was so much fun to be able to pull everything in sight and then nuke them all down at once.
I have played characters of each AT to at least 20, and many to a much higher level (my 3 50s were Mastermind (Bots/FF) Brute (Fire/Fire) and Blaster (Fire/Fire)). I would love the opportunity to play a Def/Manip Stalwart. The mixture of Melee and Control you get would truly make tanking a thing of beauty, at least for me.
Invulnerability/Energy Assault Bastion, please. ^_^
The only game that I have found that is even close to what my character could do in CoH carries a lightsaber. But, even then, I miss a dumpster full of werewolf arse, I miss being in the middle of a group and laughing because they are all paying attention to MEEEEE!
I am sooo looking forward to Bulwark!
FOR PONY!!!
I also really enjoyed when tanks could arggo more then 15 mobs limiting the tanks arggo is just that limiting game play.
hopefully CoT will not make the mistake of under powering taunt, otherwise theres no need for a tank if all others can get through without a good tank

JOE and the gang were discussing Fire Armor on the MWM forums. Appears to have most of the features we want. That said, there's no telling precisely how those discussions will translate to the actual game.

It sounds like it will basically be a tank's primary and a controller's secondary. I'm more than okay with that, especially considering that the first tanks I made (and fell in love with the archetype thanks to) were an Ice/Titan and a Dark/Elec. Both were loaded with ways to keep aggro and ruin the NPCs' attempts to do, well, much of anything...
I was looking forward to the centurion too but it looks like it is not planned for launch (http://cityoftitans.com/forum/updated-classification-and-specification-chart). That said, the blank space under the Ranged secondary means that could be a possibility in the distant future after launch. Ranged tanking...hmm... :)
Yes, it's not currently planned for launch, but it still promises to be fun when it does become available. Hopefully MWM notes the enthusiasm for it and it might get a little more priority in its eventual release date.
Good to see you here, ChristopherRobin. Hope you're feeling better, after that wicked fall?

I miss tanking too.
I kicked myself regularly for not getting into it sooner.
For a long time all my toons were ranged types; blasters, controllers and defenders.
I started getting bored and rolled an inv/ss tank and had a sort of Melee Renaissance. He blew past all of my in-progress alts to become my next 50. I even deleted several ranged toons so I could roll some other tanks and scrappers.
Sadly, the game ended before I could get my stone/stone tank, a Native American called Chief Sitting Still, to level cap.
CO has let me feel kinda tanky by letting me throw friggin' semi trucks, by I miss tanking for a team.
"I don't think you understand the gravity of your situation."
I wish I saw that in-game. That is a golden name.
Thanks. I really don't deserve all the credit for coming up with it. It was the name a high school friend gave my car.
I wish I had made him sooner. The movement penalty for stoners is the main reason I waited.
The Chief may live again :-)

I loved Tanking.
Level 50 SD/Axe
Level 50 Ice/Earth
Level 50 Inv/Fire
The only negative was that for the 'majority' of content an IOed Brute could replace the Tank and dish out superior damage as well, making Tanks less relevant.
Sure the IO's were expensive but with all the reward tiers the game had (AE Tickets, Merit Rewards, Alignment Merits, etc) they became MUCH easier to obtain.
So I started working on my Brutes
Level 50 Dark Melee/SR
Level 50 SS/SD (almost perma-Rage)
Level 50 Kin/EnA
Level 50 WM/WP
Level 50 Titan/EnA
Im really hoping CoT finds a better way to make Stalwarts relevant even when compared to a fully Boosted Enforcer.

I just want to be a REAL tank.
I dont want to be a melee dps... i want to tank...
if i press my buttons right, and click the right mobs and have my gameplay in order... all enemey eyes for the most part should be on me. So long as i dont face plant my squishy friends should be free to dps with only minimal bouncing agro that i have to manage through... proper tanking.
dont make me a dps that happens to hit a little softer but takes a bit more of a beating.
I r tank.. i dont kill stuff, i take it like a tank and rely on my team to dish the death in a speedy manner.
if I am solo... i EXPECT to be going a bit slower on my kill pace.... but in a group... i expect my group to go "yay a tank! now we will clear faster!"

Could have fooled me. =P
I HATE how tanking works in the 'holy trinity' type games.
Taking on more than 3 bad guys means I need a healer.
Where is my survivability if i NEED someone to restore my HP and do nothing but that?
Now each to their own and im sure there are players that like to do nothing but heal.
But there is more to SUPPORT than just Healz Plz.
I want to take on 5 bad guys at level 5 and survive. Not 2 rats and get my butt kicked.

Are we.... have we finally gotten past the Mage-Tank Hatred? YAY!
Cuz swtor Bounty-Hunters ARE fun. :)

Hopefully with the solo player hate too. :p
The only reason that I rolled my signature main, Redlynne, as a MA/SR Scrapper instead of a Tanker is because back in Issue 2, Super Reflexes only existed for Scrappers. However, I always played her as a "Pocket Tank" who could single target taunt and maintain a limited hold on aggro.
Or as I proved more than once on Rikti Ship Raids ... not necessarily quite so little ... when I could hold the aggro of FIVE Rikti Magus on me at the same time ... SOLO ... while waiting over a minute for the cavalry to arrive to "rescue" me from my predicament and start beating down all these Rikti Magus that I'd been keeping focused on ME so they didn't Mez Wipe everyone in the center pit. After the SECOND TIME IN ONE RAID the cavalry arrived to help me take down the FIVE Rikti Magus who were dogpiled on top of me (while I continued to kick their bunions out from under them) and lived through it without faceplanting I kinda had something of a bit of a "Reputation" on Rikti Ship Raids for a while. I can't imagine why though ...
I did however change my Title to being "The Remarkable Death-defying Redlynne" ... which became even more appropriate after I went Redside to pick up Soul Mastery from Ghost Widow. ^_~

I agree that tanks were the unwanted stepchild after their taunting and survivability got nerfed; I stayed on my Regen scrapper probably much longer than I otherwise might have, if tanks had been more... epic. So epic hold-rooms-full-of-minion-mobs-on-me-and-a-few-lieutenants-for-good-measure tanks should be in, but aggro mechanics need to be worked carefully. From a melee or support point of view, I found the mission farms, where tanks grabbed the map and the blasters nuked everything, quite tedious.
If you had resistance mechanics for taunts, like the ones that currently exist in FFXIV for control powers, that could also work; it means there is some strategy to when the tanks must taunt, and if too many mobs are still alive when the taunt effects where off, then it could still go pear-shaped, so just AoE'ing might not be the best approach; some targeted burst on specific mobs might also be called for.

Am I
The joy of keeping a mob agro with all those guys around you trying to team up on you while you punched and uppercut and jabbed away at them. Made this game great.
I remember starting in the days when you could tank an entire mission hold all the agro and group everyone to a room. However if felt like it somehow cheapened the experience to rinse and repeat this every time. However i didn't get the high level tank till after the agro and taunt nerfs. However i enjoyed playing an active style where my actions / powers were required to keep agro. I agree it was always fun to keep a large group around you attacking and off of your team mates. a whole mob around you while you stood there as they fired and blasted away angry that their best efforts resulted in you essentially laughing in their face. I felt the active play style somehow kept the real life mechanic of agro alive in my mind. Do a little damage with a ground stomp to piss them off, taunt them to keep their attention. I loved the fact there was a visual feedback to show that I had influenced an enemies mood.
To the point about brutes I never did play them enough to know what they should and shouldn't do. I never felt my tank was irrelevant or diminished I was an Inv/SS and i played in such a way that I could position and move groups to keep the team safe and the mobs agro controlled and bunched so that we could blast away and take advantage of game play mechanics to the fullest. Mechanically and play wise I felt the brute was different enough that it wasn't a tank but could fill the role for a team if need be.
