Ok, thought about this after I started another thread...small gripe, but it always annoyed me that the sun and moon rise/set arcs were roughly perpindicular (E/W vs N/S). I know, suspend disbelief and all, but come on...unless the moon is rotating around the earth much more often, earth's rotation drives the appearance of moon's traveling arc, so please get that right!

Moon
Not to shoot down your idea, but can you name one game, current or otherwise, that had the moon and sun rotate in different cycles when doing a day-night cycle? I'm not saying it wouldn't add realism, but that falls below even the threshold of suspension of disbelief for me. Honestly, I would find the day night cycle more believable if the moon went through it's phases instead of it always being full.

Sorry, didn't explain this right...in CoH, the sun rose in the east, set in the west...the moon went from north to south (or south to north?). Moon should travel same direction as sun, that's all, not looking for any complex interactions, just have it come up and set in the right direction.
I remember it differently with the moon rising opposite the sun as it set

And could we PLEASE have the sun and moon the CORRECT size as seen from the Earth?

Well, don't count that out quite yet...
Sadly the moon emote was dropped from the game because they could not get it to work on characters with capes. >.>

For that one, you need the Flash emote...

Promise the moon?
Nah - we need it gigantic Arkham Asylum/City - size. How else are we to pose all brooding and dramatic in front of it?
I agree with the phases of the moon thing. If the art people can make the moon do proper rotation, they should do it LONG after all the critical stuff is done...like good Sitting emotes lol
I remember when Star Wars was cool...a long, long time ago...
I seem to recall having heard that in CoH, the moon rose in the north and set in the south due to an error they were never able to track down. Maybe truth, maybe BS. Regardless, I agree, our moon needs to be bigger like "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way" teaches people to draw hands bigger than they really are - it's more dramatic that way!

The problem with programming in phases is that the moon will slowly be catching up with day until it's visible in daytime and if you don't skew the orbit slightly we'll have an eclipse every month.

CO has the moon and sun come up on one end and set on the other. But moon phases would be kind of neat. Ooooo could even have in game events that happen during certain moon phases. That would be awesome.

Well, only if you program in the actual phases and lunar orbit. A simple cycling through the phases with the moon showing in early, mid and late evening would be doable, if not astronomically accurate.
And a lunar eclipse would be cool. Link it to an event.
Would be awesome if you did the moon as seen in The Tick...
When I saw the title I thought it was gonna be about moon bases (can we please have moon bases)?
Funny story about CoH going Ultra Mode where they implemented 'real time' shadows from the sun and moon:
Since it only took 20 minutes for the sun to traverse the sky in CoH 'day' cycle, it moved pretty quick for the sun. This mean you could see shadows from the tall building move pretty quickly, too. This also meant that as shadows lengthened near the beginning and end of the day, they moved even more quickly. At the end of the day, you would have to turn on Sprint to keep up with the edge of a skyscraper's shadow.
So, I suggested to the Devs, and they implemented an 'apparent sun.' The apparent sun rose and set as it normally did in the 20 minute cycle. But the actual sun that was producing a light source actually appeared and went from 20 degrees above the eastern horizon to 20 degrees above the western horizon before it faded out. This mean the actual sun moved slower and didn't create implausibly fast shadows.
Now, that trick couldn't be done for the moon. Because it only had a 10 minute cycle of night. So, I suggested and they implemented that the actual moonlight source would just lazily circle the sky high above about 20 degrees from zenith. This way, moon shadows did move and looked normal most of the time. However, the apparent moon still took a north/south route from horizon to horizon and moved pretty quickly for a moon.

I thought this was going to be the moon base wish list too :/
Moon base? Yes please! And why stop there? I'm thinking the moon base has ancient alien portals to other planet/dimension missions or zones :D
With "CHA" across the face, or just "HA" after The Tick erased the "C"?
I'd prefer the moon as seen from Gunnerkrigg Court ^_^

I'd like to see stuff floating around the moon in certain events or something. Like Xmas you would see a strange figure on a sleigh being pulled by something. Or halloween you would see a figure on a broom flying past it. And other stuff. Just some kind of "Easter Egg" with the moon if you are paying attention to it.

Eeeh. I'm anal, so if I were in charge of programming the appearance of celestial objects in CoT, I'd HAVE to make it perfectly accurate. 24-hour day/night cycle, the moon lagging behind the sun in a 29.5 day cycle that produces phases(orbital inclination of 5.145deg to prevent constant eclipses), and both bodies moving through the southern half of the sky(never straight overhead, unless Titan City in the tropics, not Massachusetts), higher or lower depending on the time of the year. This would prevent silly things like light sources not tied to the apparent position of the appropriate celestial body, and skyscraper shadows that go wooosh.
But that's just me.
Firefly of Phoenix Rising
Actually, assuming the moon has the standard Dramatic Size often seen in comic books and movies, it would be neat to be able to make out some kind of moon base/city on its surface (perhaps a terraformed area beneath a dome).

As far as accurate lunar cycles go...if we could calculate them by digging holes 10,000 years ago, modern computers ought to be able to manage.
