Looks to me like the forum is being invaded by bots. I've seen a lot of suspicious new usernames, for example:

nickolaskerseyudre
Yeah maybe these are real people, but color me skeptical. I noticed three of these joining in a short space of time yesterday right around the same time the page loads started slowing down and failing. Could be coincidence, but I got the sense yesterday that you might be under a DoS attack.

The pages have been slow on and off since the forum was first revealed, but it's been getting better overall. And bots are just a fact of life on any forum. The best solution I've seen yet is to make users post 5 or so times in other threads before they can create their own thread, which tends to shut most bots down. Really, constant moderation is the only way to keep the bots out.
The world is a mess and I just ... need to rule it.

There are ways to limit bot accounts, but first it has to be something you see as a problem.

When I was adminning a set of forums, my trick for them was to (at least for "automatic" sign ups), was to
1) Have a captcha. Yes I know its not perfect, but it helps stop *some* of them
2) I then also had the person signing up to answer a question. They were basic questions, but if a number was involved... I would have the format for the answer (number or word) in the question (so you couldn't answer "1+1 = ? (number)" with two.... it had to be "2".
Those helped cut down, but it *doesnt* stop the "person behind" the keyboard sign ups... which are apparently on the rise, generally speaking.
Looking at them they have real looking email addresses, my suspicion is spam rather than DoS, will see if they post.
