I had a couple of questions that I feel could be very important for possible backstory and roleplaying.
First, I would like to re-create my main from CoX as closely as possible with TPP. This isn't because I loved CoX, though I did. I love roleplaying and spent some time building up a story for my character. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who feels a sense of emptiness, almost like closing a book halfway through or trying to sell a novel that is only half written. I see no reason why I can't write it into my toon's story that he moved from Paragon to Titan City. If I was to do that, would I be limited in what kind of references I could use?
Second, I led a roleplaying SG called Freedom Strike, on the Justice Server. I designed the base specifically to roleplay with. I had technical areas clearly seperate from living areas. The XMen mansion/school was an influence to me. In designing the base, I used a LOT of mundane items. Just one example; our hospital room had a reception/office desk and waiting area. I had operating tables and equipment set up in an area apart from the reclaimators and auto-doc. Our library had a secret safe, our eating area had a fully equipped bar, and a large area was purchased and seperated into smaller areas using the large blue lateral file cabinets as walls. These smaller parts were used as personal living quarters for people who wanted their characters to move in. Will there be as large or larger selection of mundane things? You know, fire extinguishers, stacks of books, tossed papers, wall art, bathrooms, laser printers, flora, lava rocks, etc and so on.
May the wings of freedom never lose a feather!
Well, I'm not a Developer, but I can tell you this; It's your toon and you can tell any kind of story and use whatever references you wish! The game itself may not be able to make such references or use things from CoH but you have that freedom.
As for the base building, they are going to do the best they can and I wouldn't worry even if the game comes out without everything you would like, further expansions down the road will just keep adding and making the whole game better.
I saw some bases from CoH that were simply astonishing! I still don't know how some of it was done, yet it was with the same simple tools I had.
Above all, don't worry. We all have a bit of a wait in store and discussions on these forums will likely affect the final product!
And, welcome to our community!

Please don't take this as the final word, but we are sensitive to potential IP conflicts. So, I'm not sure a direct reference to Paragon could be allowed as that belongs to someone else.
I do share your desire of having characters live again, or at least, to be re-formed from the lives they had inside our thoughts. I expect the game we are creating to allow a broad range of characters to exist. It would not surprise me if you find the characters you create in Titan City to be better representations of your thoughts.
Base building has been widely discussed, and I expect to see tools that will simplify the process. Flexibility to create what you want is definitely desired, but I want the building process to be more straight forward. So, I'm hopeful we can have a nice suite of tools without having to find faults in the code to create the bases we want.
Living quarters have been discussed as well. I'm not sure what the final form will be, but we are paying attention to what future players are asking for. So, while Titan City is under construction, keep sending in those comments about what you desire in a base building system. Its all good discussion, even the mundane stuff.

Speaking as someone with no official capacity:
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yes, although these may not be available at launch. I anticipate that, at launch, features such as base building will have a feature set focused on functionality. A lot of bells, whistles, and fine tuning will be added over time.

Thankyou for your answers! I spent many gaming sessions roleplaying having nothing to do with any actual missions. Don't think I'll have as much time to play as I did with CoX, but I am looking forward to this.
I do have another question about possible base building. I remember when base buidling was first instituted on Cox. With the design I was shooting for, I wanted to have the technical and living areas as seperate as possible. WIth the rooms on Cox, there were only open archways. Any possibility of functioning doors or maybe elevators? The X-Men after all didn't advertise that they had full on training facilities and a hangar inside their prep school.
