What Actor Would Play your Main?

With City of Titans's modern avatar builder, I've kinda realized I'll have to think about how to make a characters face past "Supernatural 13" and a few head sliders.

So, using a real life actor would be much more helpful than spitballing over a hundred sliders, so who would play as your main character? Focusing more on appearance and less on how well an actor would actually play the part of your character.

For Galrithius, I think a younger Jack Palance would make a good fit.

While Galrithius is centuries old, he's biologically in his 30s so a younger actor would play him. Jack Palance is physically imposing and has a distintive look that --after some white makeup -- would scream "old, wise villain"

My turn! I actually

My turn! I actually accidentally stumbled upon this actor's head shot while doing a Google Images search for character inspirations. My main is a character named Scarlet Striker, a teen hero with tactile telekinesis and several superhuman physical attributes that accompany his list of powers. He's also the handsome devil that serves as my profile picture. But anyway, I imagine a young Colin Ford as being the face claim to SS.

I feel like (most particularly in this photo) he looks like an "Arthur" since Scarlet Striker's real name is Arthur Simek. It still amuses me how I managed to find this picture without the intent of even looking for an actor face claim.

Love the picture of Jack

Love the picture of Jack Palance there.

I guess my main might look a bit like Rob Collins from Cleverman (but also a bit like Jack). Thanks Googs, now I need to watch Cleverman.

I'm not certain that I

I'm not certain that I understand this concept of a "main" character that you speak of. But I have put some thought into several of my characters appearances.

The first of my characters that was thought up for CoT was Hypatia Argyros, a.k.a. Goldenrod. I chose Rachel Weiss as the model for her face based on her appearance in the Mummy movies of the 1990s. This was before I learned that she had also played, in the historical movie Agora, Hypatia of Alexandria, the philosopher/mathematician/librarian from whom I got Goldenrod's private identity's given name, profession, and district of Titan City in which she lives.

The Duchess (Sheena Easton) and Tinker Belle (Bianca Lawson originated in a PnP GURPS:Supers campaign many decades ago. Their children were developed for CoT, and I have been visualizing their faces as amalgams of their mothers' faces.

I found a face claim/actor

I found a face claim/actor who could portray Provocateur, I found a young famous actor who many know him as Dylan O'Brien, I think he has the look and the acting to pull off the young ordinary person but also has some good one-liners and acting skills. Originally I thought Logan Lerman could pull it off but I thought Dylan just has the ideas of pulling off Provocateur just well.

Since Dylan has the exact colors of hair and eyes for the character at the same time has his own charm of showing the youth of a person but also skilled enough to be introverted when it comes to the character of Tim Wallace, obviously the character takes inspirations from the modernized version of Spider-Man but still can do it's own unique twists and performances that are flawless, given reason why Dylan is like an A-List young actor out there in Hollywood.

Radiac would most likely be

Radiac would most likely be best played by Paul Rudd, in my opinion. He has the right combination of nerdy, smart, and funny, and he's not TOO handsome nor TOO muscular. He also looks good in a "super suit" a la Ant Man. The Radiac movie would give him scintillating green eyes in post production that require glasses or goggles a la Cyclops though. Or some other kind of "containment suit" with a helmet or welder's visor, glass bell jar, or something.

I am not going to plan any of my characters until I am playing the game.

That said, I'd want somebody weird.

Doug Henning, Paul Lynde, Martin Landau, Shel Silverstein, Mads Mikkelson. I say that now, but will likely have some completely other concept by the time the game comes out.

For my main male character,

For my main male character, he's a guy who uses several cosmic artifacts, and likely to be roughly his mid-20s with an "All-American Boy" vibe. For that, I'd say Ansel Elgort is a good reference point.

Going heroside, I actually

Going heroside, I actually think Heath Ledger (RIP) would be a good fit for Smog, early 30s kinda typical action hero, but with a dark aura about him in a lot of pictures, esp this one.

Alas, the face I picked for

Alas, the face I picked for the original version of Captain Citadel in CoH was a dead ringer for Henry Cavill before he was ever cast as Superman. I'm not really good at using face sliders though. Maybe that's a good thing? I can't really imagine anyone other than Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh or Henry Cavill playing Captain Citadel, unless maybe someone could show me how to get CoT's sliders to look like Chris Evans with black hair.

I know I'm technically necroing this thread, but a topic/question came up on the Discord page yesterday which is vaguely related to this idea of using real people as models for game characters.

In case people are unaware there have been several discussions on this forum over the years (and again on Discord yesterday) related to the idea of CoT providing multiple types character save files. The idea is that when you're in the Avatar Builder you could either save the costume info and/or the body slider info of a character into separate files. This would let you (among other things) apply multiple costumes to the same pre-made body or let you share custom costumes or models with your friends without having all the extra info attached to it you don't want/need.

Although the current Alpha version of the Avatar Builder does not have this feature it seems hopeful the Devs are still planning to allow for it based on the multiple save file types that are already present in the Costume directories. The Avatar Builder is currently saving our characters into four separate files that clearly hold different data meant for different purposes.

So the reason I nerco'd this thread should be clear now: If the game is going to allow players to separately save off body files then it should be relatively easy for the better artists among the playerbase to churn out a bunch pre-generated body files that look pretty like much any famous person you could think of. If you really want your guy to look like Henry Cavill or whoever I'm sure there will be a pre-made Henry Cavill save file out there that you can use as the basis for your CoT character. ;)

I think a lot of what your

I think a lot of what your asking for could be resolved by changing the "saved" name of each slider from an arbitrary number (currently ""80": -38,")to the name of the slider. I think that is a relatively minor fix.

I think the bigger issue preventing the more widespread use of costume saves is that the current AB does not update the sliders when you load a costume. Meaning that the character will look correct but will be difficult to adjust. IE if someone make a character that does a really good job with most of the facial features of Henry Cavil but the eye's aren't quite right, you'll have a harder time tweaking them "just a little" to make them look better.

Having better slider names would be helpful. I'm sure that kind of thing will continue to evolve long before game launch.

The current Alpha-level AB is effectively broken as far as "not updating/maintaining the slider values" goes. In fact I'd consider it probably one of the top 5 things that currently needs to be fixed about the AB GUI to make it fundamentally usable. Until then the basic saving/reloading of any costumes for later "tweaking" is practically impossible. I assume fixing the slider related issues will be one of MWM's first priorities in upcoming test releases - it's really almost more important than getting more costume options at this point.

Well since this thread was

Well since this thread was recently necro'd by "somebody" I figured I might as well post something related to the original thread topic. Go figure.

My friends and I have been using the "My character kinda looks like so-n-so" trick for decades. Just makes it a lot easier to convey that kind of descriptive info (especially in table-top settings) when you can relate it to real life people other players are instantly familiar with.

Usually I can nail it down to one real life person who'd represent one of my RP characters but I've never really been able to settle on just one for my main CoH/CoT namesake. Right now it seems to be some weird mashup of Kate Beckinsale (Underworld), Ornella Muti (Flash Gordon) and Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) among others (i.e. Angelina Jolie):

Of course personality-wise this character's always been roughly 90% Princess Aura so if I really had to go with only one it'd probably be Ornella. ;)

Using "artwork" to describe my RP characters is complicated.

First of all I don't believe I have much artistic ability of my own. I doubt I could create a decent looking original portrait of anyone to save my life. The average eight year old could probably draw almost anything better than I could and I've long ago accepted that*.

Of course I realize I could commission someone else to draw something for me but that always seemed weird because I know that the artist, no matter their skill, would never be able to exactly capture my mental interpretation of what I'd want it to look like. Why pay for something I ultimately don't like?

As an alternative I have actually become a fairly adept "self-taught" photo-shopper. I can google an existing picture of someone and add subtle changes as desired. Again I don't really consider myself a pure "artist" with that - I'm more like a very accomplished, self-acknowledged hack. Let's just say I've put Vulcan/Elf ears and eyebrows on dozens of supermodels and Hollywood actors over the years. ;)

* Turns out I actually submitted a watercolor landscape I once did in high school to a local art show. I didn't win anything for it but an art teacher of mine had thought it was good enough to at least be considered for the show. That was as close to being a real "artist" as I ever got.
